View Full Version : Brand new exhaust, warped flang...

So by jumping the gun, I got the wrong gasket. It was an O-ring style. Well when I went to tighten down the part of the 3" exhaust where it meets the Cat, I tightened a bit to much.
Now my flange is totally warped on the exhaust side. Anybody have experience with a belt sander, and think I could seriously file the flange down maybe 1/4th-1/3rd of an inch? I have no machine shops close by, and last thing I want to do is scrap the exhaust.
thanks

why not put it on the ground and hammer it against the ground
put the flange size down and hit it w/ a mallet to flatten it out?

good idea, however the pipe has a bend in it. hmmm but that did give some good ideas. Pound it out, then belt sand it?

Put it in a vise Maybe...Softly bend it if you can't bang it.

My URAS exhaust flange bent a few times, I used a sledge hammer to bend it back then made some support pieces and welded them on [wish I had a pic] no more problems
Good luck

ouch, this is what i needed.......
I think the other route if all fails would be getting a carsound highflow without the flanges. Weld the exhaust to the cat, using a flex pipe as a coupler. And weld another flange on the downpipe side.

Heat it up before you start hammer that shit flat.
Makes it easier.
Also, make sure you're doing it on a clean flat hard surface

Heat it up and smack it with a hammer like it owes you money
