View Full Version : Power FC with boost control kit

So I finally got around and hook up the boost control kit for my PFC L Jetro (S14 SR).
I can see the MAP reading through my datalogit but I am wondering what is the unit? At idle it is around -500 which corresponds well if it is in mm Hg but under boost is about 70 which is a bit weird unless they switch to KPa unit. I wonder if anyone knows what unit they are?
It also seems that my boost control solenoid does not work after I check the boost control option on the datalogit. I used the stock solenoid wiring which I know works since with the stock ECU and solenoid I can hear it ticks.
I checked the 1 bar option with 64% duty cycle but it seems just running off the stock wastegate spring.
Anyone can help?

Ok, just found out that the solenoid clicks if you key on the car.
Still not sure about the boost unit though, someone here must know.

Make sure its wired right, needs 12v+ and its ground goes to the pin on the ecu for the solenoid.
Then its just a vac line to boost source and a vac line to the wastegate.
BTW 64 may be a bit high for the duty cycle of 1bar. When I ran 1bar I ran 54. You will know if its too high if you car surges. (and mine did it bad when it rained until I turned it down)

where did you order it from?
Did they ask you the serial # off your PFC
Im told there are differnt models and ya gotta match the kit with the PFC.

I checked, the brown wire from the ECU harness has constant 12V, the ground pin goes to ECU but it seems just floating during idle/key on (not pulled to ground). I have my solenoid plumbed the same as AVC-R instruction, one line (NO) goes to coldpipe and the other line (COM) goes to wastegate actuator. BTW what unit do you see in the commander/datalogit/fc tune? Right now I am only seeing 70 (KPa???) under boost.

I got the kit from ebay, the part number seems to match for my L Jetro, it is 415-A001 (3 pin MAP, solenoid using stock wiring). I checked the solenoid and they are working ok, and the MAP sensor also reads although I am not sure what unit(-500 idle, -20 at key on, 70 at full boost). If I select boost control kit and disconnect the MAP sensor the CEL comes on so I guess that pass the electrical test.

I don't know if this will help you at all, but this is my car on the dyno (4th gear is about half way through the video). Also don't know why some fields update faster than others, but here it is:
http://www.quickesthosting.com/~spirit/dyno.avi
I hit 114, in this dyno run (had boost controller set to 1.4bar but only 64 duty) also had a gauge on it, did about 16psi.
PSI-KPA Pressure Converter (http://www.csgnetwork.com/presskpapsicvt.html) shows that number to be right.
I didn't record my final runs, but did find out for my car 75 duty spiked 21 but quickly dropped to 19, 80 duty spiked 22 and dropped to 20. I left it at 76 for my setup.

Thanks that helps alot, at least I know that my MAP reading is correct.
Am I correct to assume that during normal condition/not full boost the duty cycle should be 100%, means that solenoid is completely closed and there is no pressure reaching the wastegate actuator?

Duty for the boost controller starts at 1 and goes to 255 (I believe)
1 being closed. Watching my video I spiked 180 at 4667rpm. I don't know for sure but I would also assume this number relates to the number for boost learning (number you can't change in the hand controller / fc-edit) that starts out at 255.
