View Full Version : S14 A/C and Electric fan connections.

Hey I need some quick info on the temps the electric a/c fan comes on with a 95 s14.

I have my altima fans connected to the OEM a/c electric fan plug. I was concerned that the OEM fans come on at around *200f. When I really want them to come on at around 180f? I panicked and hooked them up to run with ignition, but really would rather not keep it like that.

Anybody know if I could just hook both fans up to the A/C plug and forget about it? or is it just an emergency fan relay, and comes on after its too late. Ive searched around quite a bit.

reason I ask is my car felt slower than anything today (fans running all the time), so I assume its taking load from the alternator. 0 throttle response. Ive heard the S14 doesnt need a thermo fan controller, and that the A/C system kicks the electric fan on when its needed at the proper temp. thanks

Are you sure? I just got the FSM and it says it turns on @ 203*f (95*c). hmmmm,

You guys think thats too late for the fans to kick in?

sensor is @ upper radiator hose

203 low speed, 212 high speed, or high speed when the A/C is engaged no matter what the temp is. You can add an adjustable thermostats but I've never seen one built to last. Those janky probe style ones in the radiator are crap.

So is 203*f ok to have the fan kick in?

I know Painless sells a kit that has a gauge that will run the fans when hit a certain temperature. Maybe look into something like that?

my heart dropped when I found out it came on @ 203*f thinking I warped something. I will sleep like a baby tonight.

Think about it, the thermostat opens at 170, 203 is hardly much different. Most cars have a warning when the temp exceeds 260, though engine performance suffers as low as 225.

I did mine with a pepboys electric fan relay kit. comes with a sensor that you poke through the radiator so it kicks the fans on when it reads 160 at the radiator. My car has been running like this for about a year even through summer with no problems. Kit costs like 40 bucks!

Thanks for the tip, however the point is not having the Fans kick in as often. @160*f the fans would always be on. If 203*f is safe, This keeps factory reliability, with minimal strain on the fans. Plus less load on the alternator.

If I was going to go that route, I would put in a electric thermo in the upper rad hose to activate around 190*f.
