Recently got my hands on a 1992 240sx SE Coupe, unmolested except for one dent on the passengers side.

Problem is, that it's a complete car but, It hasn't started in a few years or so I'm told. Was lead to believe that it was the starter that went bad and the person who owned the car never had the money or time to deal with it, so just let it sit before deciding to part with it.

Never had a car that had been sitting around for so long without running so, Need some advice on what to look at and what I need to do before trying to start it.

Figure these things are a given that need to be looked at and or replaced.

Oil/ Oil filter
Transmission fluid
Coolant
Fuel filter/ Fuel tank / Fuel pump
Battery / fuses
Air Cleaner
Spark plugs/ Wires
Tires
Compression/Leakdown test.

But other than that any and all advice would be appreciated. Also If this has been placed in the wrong spot, I'm sorry.

do a compression test and/or a leak down test.

Alright, I'll add that to the list...

Change the oil and filter disconnect the coil pack and turn the engine over until you have the proper oil pressure and then reconnect everything and try to start it

Going to clean this up tomorrow and take some pictures, hopefully be able to get more opinions then.

Hopefully the fuel is still okay...

I would drain the tank if it has been around for a few years.

I would drain the tank if it has been around for a few years.

If the fuel in it hasn't evaporated I'd be surprised

Pictures added, Is the gastank plastic or metal?

Few things to add, was stored outside, and found a nice wasp nest inside the fuel door...which made washing it interesting...

1: Drain the gas tank and change all the other fluids
2: fuel filter too
3: change the fuel hoses as well (the ones by the tank too)
3: plugs, wires, cap&rotor
4: new battery

Then start the thing and see how it runs. Doing a compression or leakdown test before you even get it running is pointless. Of course the compression will be low at first, it hasn't run in years. First just get it running and drive it around a bit, then do the compression and analyze what else is needed by what you noticed while starting and driving it.

Well Updates After the Winter:

Bad:

Shed we stored it in for the winter, roof collapsed, shattered the rear window and put a small chip into the windscreen. also put a small dent in the front fender, but ya.

Good:

Checked the fluids that are in the car. Oil looked brand new, but will be replaced anyway, or, keep the current oil in the car, run a can of sea foam through it, and then change the oil.

Tested the coolant, test said it was good for -29f and 262f.

Pulled the plugs, had some carbon on them, but they cleaned up easily just spraying them with cleaner.

Slipped a scope into the cylinders and looked at the piston heads, little carbony but looked good.

Only thing stopping me now, is well, lack of funds...damn economic downturn...
