i dunno if this'll get closed (most likely?)

but i just wanted to share and ask everyone else how they got into cars/and or 240's.

i started as a mere 9 year old with a super street magazine from my cousin. and it just hit me how "cool" these riced out cars were. (well at least back then it was "cool". then i eventually started seeing this crazy japanese driving method where cars go sideways. so i guess i just caught on. and here i am as a 16 year old noob. starting my way into actually working with my car.

lame story. but share yours.

thanks.

Wanted one since I was 15. 16 came around, got a truck instead :( . Worked on my older friend's SR, read on here, nico, ka-t.org for h-o-u-r-s, almost every day. Finally bought myself one at 20 and here I am.

Doing the 5-speed swap within the week. I love my car so much. I think I have more appreciation for my car because a) I've wanted one forever (past 5 years), and b) I paid for all of it myself. Insurance and everything. I see my other friends riding around in BMWs and Mercedes and shit that their parents got them and I just laugh.

My car might not be the fastest, or the comfy-est, or the shiny-est, but atleast it's mine.

Dad owned an '82 Datsun 200sx.

So, I followed in his footsteps with a newer generation S-chassis.

Nissan's are #1 choice in my family.

Our list of cars we've had:

'82 Datsun 200sx (blown motor, sold)
'84 Maxima (blown headgasket, junked)
'89 240sx (totaled)
'89 240sx (currently being built)
'92 240sx (my daily)
'95 Altima (sold)
'95 Quest (mom's daily)
'96 Hardbody (dad's daily)
'97 Altima (brother's daily)

A 350z will be added early next year.

Ive always loved the s14 / s15 when racing in video games. In every game I picked it. Once I actually had my license to buy a car, my dad gave me his old car. I took over the payments. After really driving and having an appreciation for it. I wanted to finally have a 240. I did research for a couple months. Reading on nicoclub, zilvia etc. Once I knew I wanted a 240 for sure. I was bent on looking for one so I saw at least 35+ cars, even members on this forum. One day I was passing a street and saw a s14 with a for sale sign on it. The gangster guy next to it was trying to jump start it. I talked with him, I inspected everything. Pointed out obvious flaws and ended up getting my s14 SE with leather seats for 3,000. ( I know its not the best deal, but with the tokyo drift tax its hell of alot better than 5-6k.)

He thought it wouldnt start, I told him to roll me down the hill, popped the clutch and I looked back in the mirror at his face. Shit was priceless.

Its in bad shape, but the frame is straight and no rust so Im happy.
In a year or two it will be where I want it =)

I was going to buy a JDM swapped MR2 Turbo but the deal fell through and I had no car. I went looking for cheap-ass RWD cars and found the 240sx, I bought one because it was the only thing I could find that was for sale around me.

That was 4 or 5 years ago.

Now its in bad shape, Im buying parts here and there with whatever leftover change I have.

we thought mines didnt start, but turns out the dead battery caused the alarm to lock it up.

found out how to reset the alarm, and i got it for 1300.

'95 SE but auto, and its rusty.
but i guess its a decent price for its shape.

I needed a car bad, and talked to my uncle about getting a shell and doing the swap (he's a mechanic). Using his shop I helped him install it the SR. Took almost 3 months b/c I was broke. :keke:

Bought the shell off a guy on this forum the same month I joined. :bigok:

I do not like how FWD cars feel, never had. I wanted a RWD car with a 5-spd and a 4-cyl that I could turbo and was pretty cheap (less than $8K). Not many cars fit that criteria. I bought my 1997 240SX in December (for an exceptional price) and I have become addicted. I just traded my bagged and shaved 2k ranger (that I owned for 8 years and loved) for a 1992 240SX w/ an SR20 and some other goodies on it. The 1992 needs a lot of work to get it where I want it, but the chassis is so much fun to drive and work on (and that SR is awesome!), that I think it has been worth the trade.

I went to the Auto Show in Fall/Winter 1996. Went into the Nissan booth to see the last 300zx TT. Some collectors item with all the options. It's then that I saw the 1997 240sx and I loved it. Unfortunately at the time I wasn't old enough to own my own car.

It wasn't till 2002 when I was financially able(I never wanted a car payment) to buy my own car with my own money instead of relying on family hand me downs.

I searched for about 2-3 months at car dealerships. Not finding anything made that I liked. I was at my Mom's house lamenting how there wasn't anything decent for sale. She said that it was my money and that I should buy what I want. If it was more than I had saved up I should get a payment to get credit and she would co-sign if it was necessary. She called me up later on in the week and asked if I had found anything. I hadn't and she said think of all the cars I had ever seen and what I liked. Then I remembered the 240.

She then goes on the web and finds one 15miles from my house. I go to see it and fall in love all over again. Paid cash and have been happy ever since.

well back in the day some kid in school had a white hatch with sr, i was hooked instantly. then i found out about drifting and fell in love. my first car (that i bought on my own, other then pos hand me downs lol) was an fd and i lost interest in drifting to he honest. i went on a deployment and the shop who was "watching" it for me decided to blow it up and destroy my shit. well i came back and took it to this new shop and it was co owned. the one owner was out of town for awhile(btw had a super clean track 240 and is a very talented drifter) and the other imbezzled all the money and left. when the other dude came back and the business went under he payed every single person who got scammed back out of pocket back (mind you he legally didnt have to he's just a good hearted/cool dude). anyway, sold the fd and called him up to help me build a 240 so i could get into drifting, hell i think he was more excited then me lol. that day forth came nights till 2am building the car and me learning as much as about drifting/240's as i could from him. that was like 2 or 3 years ago and now i'm on my second, progressed fairly well, and gained an awesome friend who is like family (no homo).

my dad's been a very big nissan head when he came to this country. He's had countless 510's, Z's, and even a few mazda RX_ series cars. But he always loved nissan. He bought a 89 240sx back in 92 and he kept it all the way to 04 when I sold it to get another 240sx. He gave it to me while still in high school in 02. I started doing searches on 240's ever since 00-01...Its such a awesome car that I will be getting another one soon.

First was a 280 zx then z31 Then finally found my s13 for a steal, at a silent auction from a bank. Some poor guy got it repoed, he took good care of her. Got her when I was 16, so 5 years ago. Had an account on here back then but started partying and lost interest. Now my party days are over and all free time is devoted to my once car again.

..hmm, how I got into cars.. Well, I was a little kid, 5 or 6, and my Grandpa had a shop at the time. Did brakes, general repairs.. He'd let me "help" and hang out in his office. My dad gave up hot-rods and the such around the time when I was born, but he had a nice stash of Hot Rod magazines, so I studied those. I'd also "help" him fix his cars (regular maintenance usually, but a few full blown engine rebuilds) When I got to my teens 13-14 I guess, I actually helped my Uncle restore a 45' Harley Davidson, and was screwing around with my buddies cars (beaters, nothing special) .. fixing brakes, timing and shit like that. When I got to about 17 or so, I was tired of working bullshit jobs, so I got a computer cert, and have been working in computers ever since.. Makes no damn sense, but I make good money, so I figure I'll stick with it. I just put a new head on a Ford Escort (lol), as well as my bike, I rebuilt the bottom/top end myself last year. I had a Nissan Sentra, with the usual "bolt-ons" I was pretty strapped back then but it was a fun little car. At the time I had a friend that wouldnt shutup about 240's so I registered over here to read threads about engine swaps. :D .. now I post here regularly. i'm into anything that goes fast or is just neat in general, I like mechanical shit, no matter what it is. I probably should have been a mechanic by trade.

Drifting

But not any drifting... Mad tight r/c drifting. The more I got into it the more I wanted to do it for real. I started looking at what cars where available and almost got a Cresida(thank god I didn't). Then I rediscovered a car from my childhood.

Still haven't tried drifting 3 years later.

My ex girlfriend's grandfather bought it for her in 98 after we went away to college the prior fall. I had recently learned how to drive stick on my parents' then new 97 maxima (I was amazed by that vq) and she didn't know how, so I got to drive it. I had no idea what it was, I didn't even realize it was rwd. One time while washing the car, I noticed the little "super hicas" sticker, so that was the first inkling I got of what the car was. Gran Turismo was still pretty new, so that was how I learned more about the car. In those days, everyone had vtec. All I had going for me was rwd.

I drove it for the next 4 years that we were together until we broke up in spring of 2002. I always told her I would buy the car. She got a new car so my s13 sat in Westlake, Daly City for about 6 months until she told me to get the car or she'd donate it. I had just graduated from college and had no job, so I balked at picking it up (they don't have weekly street cleaning out there like I do). I picked it up with a dead battery, no clutch and water in the trunk. It died halfway home and I had to run to Kragen to get a battery right before they closed because the battery crapped out with the windows down :duh:

She had everything for that car: bra, moonroof shade, moonroof glass bag with those straps in the back and a fsm. I only got the fsm - but I'm glad that I did.

Technically, I bought it for a dollar. I still owe her...

I thought drifting was the gayest shit ever when it first hit Irwindale, but my roommate had a s13 coupe and thought it was cool... I bought the coupe from him when I came back in town from the Navy (running coupe for $1k, and everything worked), then went to D1 in 2005 and got my eyes opened.

Since then, I've had my hands in a bunch, and finally built the one I always wanted to build :)

I've always loved cars, grew up driving down the road "oh did you see that" "what kinda car is that". bought tuner magazines and 4x4 magazines when i was younger not knowing much and just reading. got into hondas for a while, always loved mustangs and RWDs. started learning more as i grew older, hondas got old to me(everyone has a honda it seems). always wanted an import. read up for a while found the good ole 240sx and learned about it. feel in love. my parents bought me a 93explorer when i first started drivin and for my 17th birthday bought me a 01 jeep 4x4. went through my 4x4 stage in highschool did 2000 dollars worth of damage to the body of my jeep and stepped away from that. kept reading about 240s fell even more in love. searched around for a while found a 92 coupe auto for 2k, pretty clean needed a paint job. lady sold it before i could get it. talked to a friend and he had a 93 coupe that needed some work but ran. bought it for 1000 dollars, drove it a couple days and the ka locked up...now ive almost got enough for an sr swap. and its just gonna keep going from there.

i've always liked them but i was more into modded hondas. then one day, my friend let me drive his s13 hatch with an sr. I had never driven a car with a turbo AND rear wheel drive and he not only let me drive it but he also let me attempt to drift (my friend is dumb.). I immediately decided my honda wasn't for me and bought the s13 coupe i have today from a guy on zilvia.

had three fc's over the course of the past 2 or 3 years and then decided i wanted something more basic/simple/easy/fun and traded for a ratty ass s14 a few months ago. qualified 3rd and took 4th in a local comp with just a welded diff and the horribly cut springs that came with the car and was hooked on how easy/cheap/simple/fun these things are. then i sold that for 3500 and picked up a clean pignose hatch with a s14 DE for 1200.

I've always had a love for cars, since before I can remember. Anyway, I spent a lot of time with the Japanese kids at school, so my love for cars and Japanese culture kind of merged into a love for Japanese cars.

I wanted an S14 as my first car, but British insurance wouldn't let me, so I got a civic until I was insurable on an S14 :)

I got into 240s because I had a slow car but it was a handling monster (2000 RS w/suspension) and knew that 240s were cheap to make fast and somewhat reliable and cheap to repair so there ya go. Sold it for an S14 w/SR for a good price but it has it's quirks and needs some rust repaired in the rockers. I think I still paid about what its worth considering all the work done to it (baller coils, cams, new SR, brakes, 5 lug, brand spankin new trans)

I started getting into cars around 2000.
My friends and I started playing with those BitRacer miniRCs back in 2002ish before they came out here in the states... a friend of mine picked up an Initial D set while I got a r34 one. He knew it was an anime, but has never seen it so I started downloading some of the series cuz I was an anime fanatic and all my friends wanted to see it. I watched it, fell in love with the show, got into drifting, and then got the "gist" of what popular RWD cars were at the time. Eventually I started watching Option video clips off the internet from random sites... good times.

Ended up getting a s13 in 05'

I always liked the 240 but never had any intention to buy one. When my GF's brother and another friend from HS got one, I sold my Celica (badass DD. handled terrific and "lift" was awesome) and got one.

Was gonna hit up the track with them on weekends but shit came up and I had to move to Missouri.

My GF's brother has an auto S13 with the dual cam KA, and my friend is currently in the process of dropping in a built RB25. I have an SR swapped hatch.

what introduced me to the 240sx is the game need for speed underground (yeah, i know... ). thats where I first heard about it. wanted to know more about the car, did some research on the web. found a local nissan club, and read alot about that car. also found zilvia, nico, and all the other nissan clubs.

i soon realised all the cars locally were rusted to death, so after 1.5 years (in dec 06)I found one in "good" shape (or so I thought), sold it at loss because it was crap and because I found another one in better shape that I have now.

Been in the chinese family my mother never support me to buying a 240sx, she thinks 240sx looks ugly and also think it is not a reliable car plus it is 2 doors. Since from high school year I was looking on webs and magazine about drifting. First, I was thinking to get an AE86 then some how I got into 240sx. So got a job after graduated from HS then start my saving for a 240sx. year later friends friend are selling a hatch will I wasnt into thoses maroon color but it is the only one i had found the cleanist around my area so i bought it. I gladed I bought it because I dont see too many maroon around also to me it looks good. Now days EVo 10 also bring out the maroon and SuperMade instead of white, black or other the maroon looks good to me. Plan to keep the car for ever A) my frist car that I pay for everything for/on it B) style never die C) LOVE IT
