Slowly making my way thought the wheel whore thread and I need to know now:
Are these ultra wide rims and "thin" tyres stretched over them just good for pics on the forum or are they actually drivable? i.e. can you drift or do 180mph with them?

yes. why couldn't you? The 165's on 10's isn't a good idea IMO. But the majority of stretch you see in the whore thread is fine. It helps eliminate some sidewall roll when drifting. Also helps fit wider/lower offset wheels.

Yea they wont help you regarding to grip and stuff an I personally believe that you should run the most tire possible since traction is a good thing. But to answer your question yes they are driveable and for the most part safe.

i run a 215/40 on a 18x9.5 all around and drive 80-90mph daily to work with traffic. ive never had a problem and dont see one coming.

I see a problem, those tyres are going to put you into a steep speeding ticket problem. :coolugh:

Personally, I dont see why you want to spend the extra $$$ on wide rims, and it is a significant markup, and then not use them for the extra rubber. I may be missing something, but why would you need to fit bigger rims other than for traction (well, looks too, but thats a given and you could probably pull it off with smaller rims IMO).
I guess maybe the smaller tyre cost less, but still, the savings wont be close to the extra price of the rims.:loco:

you just asked about going 180mph  I don't see many if any 240sx's going 180mph. LOL . As far as stretched tires goes it all depends on what type of driving your doing. I run a 225/45 on a 9 inch wheel which is slightly stretched.
Stretching helps fender clearance when your slammed and a lot of drifters do it . Most grip people do not stretch or go a mild stretch at most.
