I am complete noob and I want to gut everything behind my driver seat.
I have an 89 hatchback 240 and I cant figure out how to take out the back seats.
reason I want to gut is. I never use back seats, I dont care how it looks back there since im only gutting behind driver seat, I want to race in street class one day, and Im bored and have nothign better to do during the summer. oh yeah and I dont care if i remove the speakers, they are worthless.
thanks in advance

Pull the tabs at the front of the bottom portion to release it release from it's clasps. Lift it out and toss it aside.
Now fold down the back portion. Find 4 10mm bolts that attach the back to the hinges, 2 bolts on each side. Remove them. Toss aside the back portion.
Drive around for a few weeks like that. Get annoyed by the added exhaust noise inside the cabin. Realize that the seat isn't that heavy to begin with, and put it back.

find bolts, unbolt them
pull on plastic parts til they fall off
i'm going to replace my back seat with a sheet of MDF and make everything behind the seats s30 style.

The seat is hinged at the bottom of the back portion on both sides. Look there.

pull until there are no bolts left.
pull on plastic parts til they fall off

actually all the sound deadening in the entire vehicle weighs 78 pounds.
and if you guys don't like exhaust noise, don't modify your vehicle, lamers.

yeah i was thinking about just taking out the rear interior and sound deading (comes off with dry ice i heard) so probly be around 34 pounds of just sound deadning that would come out

Why bother keeping the back seats?
Does anyone hate their friends enough to try getting them to sit back there?
Looks much nicer with the rear carpet intact, but no seats. Unclip the rear carpet from the seatback and drape it over the old seat-hole.
Mines temporarily gutted and it annoys the shit out of me, carpet wins.

I look forward to seeing yet another rattle trap stripped out 240 for sale in the FS section in the coming months. The 1% weight savings will be extremely noticable, I'm sure.
