They're alright if you've never messed with freeze plugs before. It turns a PITA task to a fast and simple one. Especially on cars with freeze plugs in awkward locations that don't allow you to get tools in to tap in the new metal freeze plug.

I am doing oem... but i'm wondering how the hell rubber freeze plugs are sold and WHY they are sold. There has to be SOME reasoning behind it.
How are they easier to install? IMO, easier to install means easier to pop out... NO?
Also, is there any trick to installing the oem plugs? i was planning on just using a socket the same size as the outer ring, and pounding away... Any better ideas?
thanks.

lol it's called a expansion plug. it has two metal plates on each side with a rubber center and a bolt going through it. you put it in, tighten the bolt and it expands and seals. works fine for oem engines as a quick fix till you can afford to pull the motor
