There are alot of posts about this already. I shift at all different rpm's when driving usually depends on how i feel and how much gas i have.

Normal driving- 2500-3200
messing around-3500-6000

Yah thats around the same thing for me as well. Unless I want to blow up the KA, I will go to 9,000

You treat your car with a lot of care, messing around I go all the way to 7500rpm. I don't that often though.

doesn't the ka motor stop making power a little after 6000 or 6200 rpm? from the dynos the power seems to drop down considerably...

Normally I shift at about 2500-3000. If I'm pushing it, I'll shift right at 6000.

the stock KA makes NO power above 6000 rpm. add cams and you might get a bit more.. maybe 6400 max.. but it dies off pretty hard.

The KA dies at about 5600-5700 rpm, so if you have nothing that will help you rev higher, there's no point (personally).

On the street, a little over 3k.

Shifting at about 6000 is best for acceleration in the SOHC, dunno about the DOHC but it should be a couple hundred rpm higher.

I've wound mine out in every gear except 5th though. 'tis better to carry the gear you're in rather than waste the time shifting, if you have a few hundred rpm left and you're close to the finish line (drag) or a corner (track). There's also no reason to shift into 5th under hard acceleration in a stock 240SX since you'd just hit the speed limiter as soon as you shifted anyway.

I have a few mods and it pulls hard even above 7000rpm in 1st gear.

There are a lot of bad factory tach's!!! The factory rev limiter is set at 6500rpm's... Even w/ the JWT ecu upgrade the limiter is raised to only 6700rpm's, so 7000 is not possible!!! And yes, the power band falls off quick after 5700rpm's... I personally shift around 6000 to 6200 to keep the rpm's up between shifts... Alan

Woah, revlimiter's only 6500!? I could have sworn that I'd gotten up to 7000+rpm on the Streets of Willow front Straight!! Maybe my tach's just broken... or maybe I just broke my car! Shift at about 3500-4k for daily driving.

When racing, I take full advantage of the 8krpm cap

the power band will change for every mod you put in your car. I remember when I bought my car, the poor thing would lose power after 5000rpm. going pass 5000rpm was just like shifting to neutral, the car would rev higher but wouldn't pull anywhere. And if people say they've been to 7000rpm is because they don't have a 6500rpm rev limiter. I've rev my car above 7000rpm only in first gear.

6500? Maybe on the SOHC motor. The DOHC redlines at 6900, and I've taken mine near there on very rare occaisions (unless the factory tachs are that bad).

Seems to be a norm, typical driving shift at 2000-3500 rpms
Really pushing it, I shift typically 5000-5500, sometimes up to six. Right about 5500 is where my car seems to have the most power.

Does anyone have a dyno sheet to post out here? I have seen one before and they show the car pulling like a BEAST till you get to 5500, then it tails off fast... Having seen this, I rarely EVER rev past 6k, even when I am pushing it hard. General driving, I stay below four.

some of you are saying you can shift at 7k+rpm... dont the KA engines have a rev limiter? i think they do cuz once upon a time when i was doing donuts in my school parking lot, i noticed that i was revving really high at first and when it reached 6900-7100rpm, it just dropped by itself.

3000 for normal driving

3500-4500 in the hills (if you drift on my road, you'll crash, there's no room, barely wide enough for my s14 to go normally. )

4500-6000 on the track

From a 'recent' experience, I can also add:
touge: 5,000-7,000
