Got Sileighty?
12-07-2002, 04:21 PM
Hey fellow 240 owners....woohoo! i had to wait a while before i can finally say that. After months of searching, i bought a white 1991 fastback last week . It's the base model, with 78K miles, the owner was asking for $3200, but i talked him down to $3100...thanks to my negotiating skills haha.
Anyway, in about a month or two, i should have extra $$$ to spend on rims and suspension. Im looking for some nice black rims (theres just something about them on white cars), and preferably not mesh (theres just something about mesh that doesnt fit my taste) hehehe. As for suspension, i dont wanna slam my car cuz i hate the idea of having to drive sideways or around dips, speed bumps, and sloped driveways. So basically i just want a slight lowering of my car. Those who post up pics or links of their suggested rims get extra bonus points .
Thanks

Riiiight.. we all know what you really want is a black Silvia coupe on some bronze mesh wheels ...

Congrats on your car. Soon you'll fall in love with it, moreso than any girl could ever do for you. Then it's an obsession.
Suspension, for slight lowering, probably the Eibach Pro-Kit. Some here will say it doesn't lower it at all, and some say just a tad. Pair it up with Tokico shocks or KYB's, and you're ready to roll.

You got a hell of a deal. I paid $3,100 plus $500 in taxes for my 1991 Fastback LE from a dealer.
Except it had 145,000 miles at the time and a rusty hatch and a bad transmission. The interior is okay, but the seats are gonna be gone by summer.
You're going to have alot of fun with it.
As for suspension, I am going with KYB AGX and Eibach Prokits.
I wish I could throw on some 16" Rota Subzeros too.
I would wait at least 3 weeks before ordering though. Get a feel for it and make sure nothing else pops up.
Welcome to the board!

By the way, Don....how does one give out extra bonus points? The inherent meaning of bonus is indeed extra. It's like saying "I have a white, white S13". It just doesn't get any whiter...er, bonus-ier. No, I'm not studying, and yes I am back online. Any more questons?

Welcome to Zilvia! If you have the money go with coil-overs. You can get all the height adjustablity you want and if you really want you can get damping adj. too. O and just so no one flames you later on there is a Archive and FAQ section. Also you can search usin the little search function at the top. (And just in case always wear a flame retardant suit)

thanks for the replies guys. ill keep the eibach prokits in mind when i get my next paycheck, i probably wont get shocks for a while, especially since theyre a lot more expensive hehe. about coilovers? uhhh maybe in a couple of years hehehe.
natty - yup, dealer suck! actually i almost bought an s14 from a dealer for $5200. but the next day, i found the ad for my s13, whew! $5200 wouldve bankrupted me, and put me in debt at the same time. >=\
kandyflip - thanks for the heads up on the search thing. but i have already tried that and it came up with a ton of threads that werent specific about rim suggestions. basically im too lazy to look through each and every thread hoping that there would be a rim pics inside, especially since im on crappy dial-up .
please keep the suggestions on rims coming though.
-thanks

my first car is my 91 240sx le, i bought it for $3000 from a private seller w/ 90k miles on it, and the outside is almost perfect with the exception of the crappy foam spoiler... well gratz man, i hope you like the car as much as i do =)
glen
---and if ya want to make a white s13 look better like i did, buy clear front turn signal lights, and do the clear sidemarker...like i did. they look so much better than the stock orange crap...

For ideas about rims, just grab an import car magazine. I swear every 3rd page in them has a company selling their rims. And just pick rims that you like, its personal taste. However, you'll see a popular thumbs up for anything that's "deep dish" (rims with a deep lip). Pimp!

oh yea i love my car. in fact, im liking it more and more everyday. ive probably spent about 1-2 hours total just staring at it, since i bought it last week . my only 2 complaints:
1) the seating material is cheap. almost comparable to rags hehehe. i guess its ok though. =\
2) the power antenna seems to have forgotten how to retract...o well, at least its stuck on the up position so radio works.
besides those, i love my car. and im sure once i learn how to master the art of driving stick, ill love it even more hahaha.
vadim, i was actually gonna give away super duper extraneous outrageous extra bonus points, but i thought that would be overdoing it. hehehe....it doesnt matter anyway, cuz no one's gotten any of those points yet hahaha
oh yea before i forget, i tried to post a pic along with this, but i cant figure out how. sorry, is it obvious that im a newbie?

just read your post ..... my first car was/is also an s13 .... 92 fast back, no se, got it july 2001 .... $4500 ... had 49K ... perfect body until school started, got two nice size dents .... i also love my, but there is one thing i learned quick ... be carefull when you drive it in the rain, thats how i did my first spin out ... scarey **** .... now go kick some civic ass ...

Congratulations, very clean.
Do yourself a favor and don't get caught up w/ body kits and flashy paint.
If u find a kit that u think you like then do what I do:
Use it as your background on your pc at work and home, if in 4 months you still love it then go for it; I've ruled out almost every flashy kit I've ever wanted this way. The only one to last is the s15 stock.
For the antenna, a cheap upgrade both asthetically and mechanically is a VW fubu antenna, that and a cable won't set you back too far and I used it to replace the leaky fluid squirter in the back which did considerable water damage.
If u have light coloured seats like I did then pull them out and spray them w/ black spray dye; looks much better and hides all sorts of problems.
sponger85
12-22-2002, 01:03 PM
i agree with mr dirty .... most kits do get annoying ..... im kinda glad my dad would not let me get one ..... but one bumper i do like is the kouki nismo bumper that you can get from your local nissan deal for like 185 shipped ... but this bumper requires different turn signals and some positions lights which together cost like 280 on jspec.com .... oh also on the seats ... go to 240sx.org and look at the seat enhancement on the install section ... helps alot and gets rid of that annoying lumbar .... grips you tighter and does not cost any money just 10min of your time ...

sponger, yea the "matrix" mode was exactly what i felt haha and after the spin i dont know what the hell just happened... about the seats, i think imma just get s14 seats from a junkyard hopefully. does anyone know about how much a pair of front seats will set me back at a junkyard? or at the very least, the driver's seat.
thanks for the compliment mr. dirty. btw i agree with u, im so not into bodykits. about a year ago i probably wouldve disagreed, but then again, i also wanted a civic/integ at the time hehehe.

My personal suggestion is to look at what you like o what suits your taste.I personly like the 5zigen typhoons but alot of members are getting them butI like them due to the tire widths you can get I want a 8.5" and a 9" tire but thats me.I have asked along with other members here on what rims look good and it is just personal taste really what one likes another may not.Check out tirerack.com or discounttires.com and scan through those and get an idea of what you like there are many other places to look as well but that is the basics. The links section has others areas to check out hope this helps some.

Nice car, but you got me on the opinion for rims.
All the rims I like are 5-lug...with some exceptions of course.
I actually like the RH C3's because I've seen them on a badass S13. The body of the car is stock '89 with Kouki taillights...but the powertrain is sick. :D

AHHHH!!!! ur so lucky!!! I bought my car last week. Everything is good and stock cept its a 91 se fastback w/ 98k so it got that dumb foam spoiler and has rust and one 3" hole on one of the mounts. Its all on the hatch so its not that big a deal. But ur car is so clean and u got a good price. I paid 2700 but it has that rust so i guess i got an ok price.

vadim, i think bryan said the sparcos are +40 offset. regardless, why wouldnt they work on my car? its still got lip, and its all about the lip hehehe.
