my KA24DE blew a while ago, reason being the lower timing chain guide exploded. i had assumed that the cams skipped, and caused a bent exhaust valve, due to the serious leak of what appeared to be oil from cylinder no.2 .
after tearing apart my engine, the head appears to be in pretty decent condition, all of the valves appear to be sealing properly, and none look bent. i am going with a full bottom end rebuild, including a new oil pump (the old one sucked in tons of crap from the shattered chain guide)
now the question is, do i rebuild the head? and if i do, do i attempt it myself?
or would it be best to bring it to a machine shop, and let them do everything, and if this option, how much does a head rebuild normally cost?
