View Full Version : Head Rebuild?

my KA24DE blew a while ago, reason being the lower timing chain guide exploded. i had assumed that the cams skipped, and caused a bent exhaust valve, due to the serious leak of what appeared to be oil from cylinder no.2 .
after tearing apart my engine, the head appears to be in pretty decent condition, all of the valves appear to be sealing properly, and none look bent. i am going with a full bottom end rebuild, including a new oil pump (the old one sucked in tons of crap from the shattered chain guide)

now the question is, do i rebuild the head? and if i do, do i attempt it myself?

or would it be best to bring it to a machine shop, and let them do everything, and if this option, how much does a head rebuild normally cost?

Go to a machine shop. I have paid right around $120 for head rebuilds including 5 angle vavle jobs on them. The only thing they don't do, is put the cams/cam caps/ timing stuff.

I just rebuild my head and to be honest its not hard at all, changed the valve seals and everything. I did have the oportunity to practice on my spare head, which if you want I can ship to you for free if you pay the shipping and you can practice on it too lol. Its a tedious process, but it can save you a lot of money. If you want the head just pm me, its prob like 20 bucks shipping and I am willing to help a fellow zilvian out

oh snap, if its only 120, i'll just do that. did you have to supply parts, or does is that included in the price?

You have to buy a head gasket kit. I do not rember the price on that. It comes with HG, every gasket for the IM, TB, Exhaust mani....
