so yesterday was oil change day YAY!

I found 4 quarts of royal purple 20w40 tucked away in my carparts stash. I bought 8 quarts of it because it was on sale when I first got my car about 2 years ago and I guess forgot about the other 4 *I have changed the oil since then..just forgot about the oil I had* Oil has shelf life of 5 years, so I went ahead put it in.

As I was taking the car off jackstands, the ground I was on gave and the car slipped off the jackstand and came crashing down. It was enough to bend the jackstand all to hell, but the car seemed fine, nothing leaking or broken ect. I start my car up today and when the engine turned over I heard a CLACK ACK! then it went away.

Could it be I have bad oil, or something associated with the car falling.

What motor? 20w40 is pretty thick. Whats your oil change routine? Do you fill up your new filter with fresh oil before spinning it on or do you spin it on dry? The noise you described could possibly be from the valvetrain being ran dry till there was enough oil pressure.

THats not the oil... if anything you might have gotten some tapping in the valvetrain, not just one clack-ack... Only thing I could thing that would make that would maybe be arcing at the battery post, a starter issue OR a tool left on the drivebelt/fan. That last one has my bet!

Where in the world did you get 20w40? lol we have stocked RP for years and its not even in the catalog to order! (Napa)

thats pretty thick oil to thick. on start up ur engine must sound like a diesel. id say its something to do with the jackstand giving way.

ok I apologize, maybe not so much a clack, but a WHIR noise. Its only about half a second when the engine kicks over, then it seems fine.

What weight would you all recommend for me?

I am having the same noise with royal purple 10w30...

Might be the oil, or we might have a different issue.

Either way it doesn't seem like a big deal.

gsracer thinks the noise could be the turbo starting to spin with no oil. im draining the oil out tomorrow for 15w50 royal purple. I was stupid to put that oil in from the rip. its under the shelf life of oil, but fork man its still wicked old.
