Your car must have been resprayed if the engine is a different color from the paint. Thats how I am going to do it in about a month, hell it is about $500 less to get just the outside sprayed vs. including the door jams and engine bay.

this refers to S14B, all green ones have black engine bays that I have seen, all bright red have maroonish ones, white have white ones black has black of course, and all the other colors like blueish purple have black engine bays. Oh yea and the burgandy one has the same engine bay color as a red 240.

which is why i stripped the whole interior, dyed everything black (including the carpet), and am going to buy new black seat belts and buckles, and a steering wheel. i think everyone who has a black interior take it for granted. be thankful dammit.
also, i dont have lsd, or 5 lug, or abs. so im still bitter. base models suck

My interior isn't all black. How did you dye the top and the carpet?

This is my theory on engine bay color. Nissan began using primer that was a SIMILAR color (i.e. dark, light, lighter. . darkish. .etc) back in the middle 90s or so, so if your car gets scratched it supposedly doesn't show as easily. (can't account for my scratched mirror, it's showing through in white haha)... but anyway...
I think this may be it... I know gold 95-96 and silver moss 97-98 have a sort of beige engine bay. My 97 S14a has a black engine bay, because it's a dark color.
Anyone know if this theory is accurate? =)

it think its safe to say darker S14's have black engine bays and lighter ones have same color engine bays as the exterior but maybe a little diff. in hue.

My underhood is like khaki, the original color of my car was gold.

Yeah! Checked my mom's 97.5 Altima out... It's, of course. (as MOST of them seem to be) Pearl Beige... (gold.. very much like S14 gold)... The bay IS khaki...
I think silver moss S14s had that same color bay...

I just wanted to paint my car whatever it's original color was. I saw there was some of the purplish color oversprayed onto the coolant canister. So if it was black at the begining i want it to be black now if it wasn't then I wanted to do some body repair. But, i guess this one is just a tough one to call . Thanks for the info, now i'm smarter.

Take your VIN to a dealership, I think they can tell you the original color of your car with it...

The paint code should be on the vin plate bolted on your chassis and also the sticker on the door jamb. It's a three character word. For example mine is "FN2"...I can't remember the site that had the list of all the codes and name of the color.
