I have a non-S-chassis related project in mind using a warning chime from a 240SX.
Looking at a chime disable howto, I see that it has two wires, presumably coming from the TCU. On the chime side of the connector, one wire is yellow, the other is green. On the harness side, one wire is red with a stripe, the other is green with a stripe. I'm guessing it must ground to the chassis via its bracket.
What are the functions of the two wires?
I pulled up a copy of the S13 200SX FSM (the only S13 FSM I had on hand) and it only confused things a bit. My US 240SX wiring diagrams - I don't have a complete FSM for the 240SX - show the warning chime connected between +B and the TCU. The 200SX FSM, on the other hand, shows the connections like this:
Green with white stripe: connected to door switch (switch open when door closed) through to +IGN
Red with blue stripe: connected to headlight switch via SMJ; connected though to +B when headlights or parking lights are on
It also shows that if you ground one of the pins (oddly, the one pin out of the three-pin connector shown as not connected in the wiring diagram) and connect the pin connected to the G/W wire to +12v, the chime should ring. This seems backwards; based on the wiring above it would seem that it's supposed to ring when the R/L pin is +12v and the G/W pin is grounded (lights on, ignition off, door open). However, at least it seems that I don't need to have it connected to a TCU to get a working chime.
I guess I just need to get my hands on one and experiment.
=============================
I'd reorganize like this.
A. 1989-1990 240SX fastback; 200SX; H1~H2 180SX
B. 1991-1993 240SX fastback; 200SX; H3~H8 180SX
C. H9~H10 180SX
D. 1989-1990 240SX coupe
E. 1991-1993 240SX coupe; 1992-1994 240SX convertible
F. Silvia coupe; convertible
A,D = "zenki", "single cam"
B,E = "chuki", "twin cam"
C = "kouki"
Coupes and convertibles are entirely compatible as far as body panels and lights are concerned. I think we can ignore that variation unless Chaser starts making hardtops like they do for Miatae.
