View Full Version : wiring foglights through pop-up switch

which wires would I need to use from the headlight pop up switch to allow me to use that switch as an on/off for the foglights that I've gotten for my front end? The only connections I need (of course) are positive and negative.

You could ground the negative to chassis then pull power from the headlights themselves, but im not sure if the stock wiring would hold up

that's what I was thinking. I didn't want to overload anything, or draw power off my already-not-so-bright headlights
Use the pop-up wiring to run a relay.
Then run a dedicated power wire through the relay.
I've done this with a lot of auxillary lights.
I plan on doing this with some Hella's on my next car, so they turn off when I flip the high beams off.

I wouldn't need to use a relay though would I? because that connection is already relayed? I'm not using the switch anymore since I don't have popups. Just trying to save myself some wiring.

Or you can use the factory forglight wiring that is on all s-13's. There is a 2 pin connector by the battery (one orange wire, one black), there is a spot for one of the blue relays labeled "fog lights" in the relaybox under the intake box, and there is a connector for the factory switch under the dash on the driver's side. The switch connector is a 6-pin connector, but only 4 pins are used and has (I think) a clear plastic boot around it. 2 problems though:
1: I may have gotten the last factory foglight switch in the country. When I originally ordered it it was special order, but in stock at the warehouse. When I called them back because they were lagging the part was backordered according to their computers. A couple days later it showed up at my shop. You can just run a toggle switch, or find a way to run it through your pop-up switch, through the factory wiring though so it is not really a big deal. The factory switch is less than $20 if you can get one.
2: With the factory wiring the fogs will only come on when the headlights are on and they will go off when you turn on your brights.

i have mine on my turn signal power, that why they come on with one click, like so.

but a buddy of mine has his on his radio power so they come on when the cars on. i dont think its a good idea to put them with your headlight power as the wires can get hung around the lifter for your light, and no they dont blink being on the turn signal power

once again. I don't have pop ups anymore. I just want to run it from the switch for the pop ups because it's a simple on-off circuit and it's not being used.

I'm pretty damn sure he wants to wire the foglights on his silvia front through his un-used pop-up wiring dude, no moving parts for the wiring to get caught on.
EDIT: You beat me to it dude^^^

I like this idea, but I'm trying to do this without getting a switch or having to do a whole whole lotta wiring

The only wiring you will have to do is run the wires from the foglight connector to the lights themselves. If you have to patch in a toggle switch or your pop-up switch due to lack of availability of the factory fog switch I can walk you through it, It really won't be that hard. If you can get the factory switch you just plug it in and, boom, foglights. Don't try to use the JDM foglight switch though it will burn out your time control module unless you do some re-pinning. I learned that the hard way.

all i did was ran both grounds together into 1 wire and the same with the power.
then grounded them to the chassis and then the power to the turn signal and your done. simple 30-40 minute project

You mean off the wire for the running lights in the bumper, not the turn signals. That's not a bad idea, but it would be good to be able to turn the fogs off for the pork patrol. The yellow fogs on my dual projectors are pretty blinding, shit they light up the road better than my actual headlights.

when the brights are on? ive yet to have a problem with that
but on my jeep i have the bumper fogs to there they turn off when i turn my brights on. and theres actually 2 different powers for that, on for brights, and one for just riding. just attach it to one and see if it turns off when the brights are on. if not switch ti to the others

Here ya go
its nicer if ya have the Silvia Switch
cut the Brown and purple wire from the popup switch then wire to switch

http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i235/Neil_85/VFSH1500.jpg
for the popup motors cut brown and black and wire accordingly, Do left and right side the same

once wired up pull the second relay so you can turn the fogs on and off when you want
if you leave this relay in the Fogs will come on when you turn the lights on

Couldnt you ground to the chasiss and get your power from the power pin that goes to the headlight motor.
I never tried it or really looked at the wiring but i think it should work.
*EDIT* Well it looks like someone knows more about this and posted a walk through, disregard my post.
