how can people afford to go to school now a days? I would like to go back but i got a few small bills, and not to mention ill be like 20+ miles away from whatever school i wanna go to even community college or a technical institute.
Unfortunately i cant work and school at the same time very well, i tend to blow my money on car shit and not do homework if i have a job to attend...
sucks.
I still live at home but dam i admire those who got scholorships and mommy and daddy to fund their needs..

Student loans is how I'm getting through.
Gambling that I will get a decent enough job/ economy will be better, and I can get good enough rates as to not be astronimical.

Well I was in the same boat...my classes were ~30 miles away. I decided to not blow my money on my car and work a part-time job to focus on handling the small bills (i.e. cellphone, insurance). Scholarships are awarded on various achievements...a good essay, grades or even being part of a community.
I wish my parents were around to help me out, but hey..its good enough they gave me their info when I was filling out a FASFA.
All I can tell you is think long term and set your priorities. You go to school for more than the education, but also the experience and networking with others that might help you set a positive direct for your future.

Try doing that and paying a mortgage.

you can do it man, just set your priorities, and schools offer plenty help, financial aid is awsome, couple of years ago they gave me 3,800 and payed my tuition, with what i was making, and when i reported my school expenses, books cost me about 500 for the year, and they could have covered that too...EOPS...its just making your self go and do the work, once you get the hang of it, its pretty easy, but dont fall behind and you'll enjoy your classes

Yep...my wife is doing it and working 40hrs a week. Mind you she doesn't have the car disease that we all posses, but she does have to put up w/me having it.
I guess, at some point you just suck it up, set your priorities and do it. BTW, your priorities are for you to decide. If you decide that your car is your priority, then so be it, but if you want school to be your priority then you slow down on the car. I wouldn't say get rid of it, just slow down.

Take night classes, theyre usually lighter in HW. Most of the people that go to them have day jobs and walk into class like zombies from being so tired.

I was in that same boat.
In 06 I had so much on my plate. I didn't do shit but drive my car to and from work.
I worked full time.
Went to school full times
Bought a house that needed to be rehabbed. Rehabbing a 3800sq foot house isn't easy.
I was planning a wedding (yes I was completely involved with every aspect of the wedding planning).
So, yea, cars have been on the back burner of my life for the last couple of years.

That is true, you don't get that motivation to go to school..hence why you meet people that are in school and give you that mental boast. You can still hang out with your current friends, but its part of prioritizing.

Yeah, you have to do whats right for you. I've had friends from all spectrums, from criminals to college grads. Whichever crowd you hang out with the most, it tends to influence your general outlook on everything. It took me a long time to realize that, and I'm not sure most people realize that or want to actually acknowledge that their "friends" are usually what holds them back.. granted there are sometimes other things.

Good Lord, thats a lot of space! Hopefully, in the next 1-1 1/2yrs I'll be going back to school. Retail, though it pays well, can be the pits.

Yea, and for just my wife and I, it's a little much. We may be selling soon.
Retail does suck after so long. I did it for years. Even managed a Bedroom Superstore. But working holidays, and weekends takes it toll.

Fucking rent is going up like crazy. Im outta school, but keeping a place with a garage for a decent price, even in ohio, is getting a bit outta control.

Good thing I still have the GI Bill.
Work takes up time.
But I'm going to register for school soon.
Just want to finish a degree.
I don't really need it.
Never saw myself working for a huge corporate company.
I do spend too much money on drifting and car.
But it's my life right now and I'm having fun living it.
After this year things will be different for sure.

It's all about balancing what you can, with what you need and what you want. Needs come first, wants come second. I'm basically doing exactly what you're looking at doing. I'm in school full time during the school year, and work full time in the summer, but also part time (close to full some weeks) during the year. As a result my car project(s) progress slowly, but it's not as though you have to give it up. Think long term. There's always money for scholarships, bursaries, loans etc. out there it's just a matter of finding it. I have a chunk of my schooling being covered for me and it's great, but loans are taking care of the rest.
The biggest problem is always money and time. Gas, food, tuition... it's enough to make you feel like a life of crime. haha... Just remember to keep things in perspective and make do with what you can. Financially the world is much different for us then it was for our parents generation with all the rising costs, and seemingly stagnant wages etc... But we're all in the same boat. If you want to go to school, just do it, and work it out as you go.

I live with mommy and daddy.
it just wouldn't be financially smart for me to move out until after school.

Definitely agree. It is all about learning how to balance your wants and needs. If you just go for it, and go to school. Everything usually falls into place after that. Building up your projects will take a significantly longer amount of time, but you just have to keep it in mind that you will be doing something that will benefit your future.

I work 40+ hours a week and take classes 4 nights a week (5 nights next semester) 25 miles away from where i live. Gas is what kills me the most lookin forward to summer gettin to save some money for the car. It's not the best situation for the time being but will pay off 10 fold in the future .

I just move closer to school one way or another
and taking online course's help
part time job can go a long way if your able to get one of the better paying employers to accept you because your a student.
but yes, overall one does have to cut back on a lot of "fun" stuff which overall makes you a "home-body"
