Just like the title, has any one ever made a grab handle/oh s**t handle for
S14's?[for passenger side]

After riding passenger in my own S14 and other people's S14 at Drift events,
the biggest thing I noticed from riding passenger in a corolla was the grab
handle/oh S**t handle.

it just gave me more comfort grabbing that handle then trying to restrain my
body from lateral G's by the center console or the door panel.

and of course, I am trying to put one in my car just as a little project and
what not, that's why I am asking. [yes, I've searched before posting]

I visited couple of rock climbing store sites and got some ideas off of it, but I want it to be safe as well if I do have one.

If i was to get a cage, i wouldn't have problem. I would just buy one from one of the jeep sites or something. but just wondering if anyone has done this with out the cage to work with.

I guess you can pretty much use any handle you want and use sheet metal screws

I used to have one from a japanese s14.

it is a really basic design.
there are threaded holes in the A pillar already....

just find a handle, and do it.

Alright then, it'll be done. haha, thanks for the info.

I was worried about the rigidity the handle will actually have. and the idea of sheet metal screw isn't really cutting it in my head either, simply not strong enough in my mind i guess. but really man, thanks for the info. I would tare my car up before I posted this kind of question, but I am about half a world away from my car[car is in California, I am in Turkey]
just gathering some shit to do for my car when I get back. but more info is appreciated.

thanks

nissan made the oh shit handle for all of europe, japan, shit, anywhere BUT this place. the A-pillar is actually different itself and has impressions in the plastic for the handle to "cup" into along with a bracket on the backside. i have one on my car and i loves it.

Yah but read what he said, its on the damn A-pillar. Its the most fucking retarded area to put an oh shit handle at. Its not an oh shit handle, its a "im too fat to get out of my car so I gotta grab on to this thing to get out" handle.

And dont mind Slidewell, half the shit he spits is BS cuz he's a JDM fanboy. He begged me to send him the handle and trim off my silvia. I didnt care cuz like I said, its the most worthless thing in the car. He sent me a USDM A-pillar trim and I sent him back mine with the handle.

PS: get a damn bucket seat and you'll never have any use for a handle...

There's holes on both sides of the car predrilled/tapped. I have one on both sides, got a pair from a guy in the UK who parts cars. There's a steel bracket that bolts to the Apillar, then the spacers and handle bolt to the bracket. The handle is the same as any Maxima, Pathfinder, etc. but since those vehicles are roof mounted they're all gray, not black. You could pull one and dye it, or leave it gray if you can't source a black one from overseas. The panels need to be cut to accept the handle, but it's just a square shaped hole for each side, self explanatory after you get all the parts where to cut. The bracket has to be flipped and bent a little for the passenger side since they don't offer a driver side handle for RHD cars, but it's also apparent how to do it when you have the right parts. No, I don't have pics of mine, and no, I'm not going to go take any.

Finally, I've discussed this before in detail, someone didn't search.

My car has an OEM passenger side grab handle. I guess it could be adapted to fit your drivers side since they're the same side!

^^^Yah but the trim is different. There are divots on the plastic trim. I know russ has done this to his car and he said he just cut out holes on the A pillar trims...

European models have that handle on the passenger (LH) side, and the A-pillar trim is specially made for it. Could take some pictures if you want..

im actually not sure if its an s13/s14. I posted it mainly to backup the idea of the location of the stock jdm one. just to give you a better idea.

I need to make one as well..but im just going to go junkyard diving until i find one that will work well and match the stock interior.

That is my old car. It came stock. Even when I pulled on it , it not that great of a bar to use. Another cool thing that better is the seat belt extenders, those were cool. I should have kept them.

you know i've been debating on these for awhile . .. oh $h!t handles (not these ones in particular) cuz everytime i get a little excited in my car when i have passengers and go through some hard turns or just gun it i see them scrambling to hold onto something . . . with little success

what would happen if we just took off the pillar cover....drilled some holed in them and added some backing (plastic or metal sheets) and just screwed the handles in place? then we'd be able to place it anywhere we would want no? (e.g., right above the head instead of near the windshield)

and then they just push against the door and center console against their seats looking very uncomfy and a little upset for not giving them a warning . you all know what im talking about (let's just term it the s-chassis dance or s-dance)

You can always driver slower. If i have a passenger when in the streets, I would drive safely. No speed or just 1-5mph over the limit, nothign excessive.

Or you can get them a bucket seat with a 5pt harness.

i actually don't drive too reckless. . . even in slightly fast turns they do the s-dance . . . and the buckets don't provide the added "security" of having something to hold onto (which is just human nature developed from when we were born)

My main reason for doing it is I was in a phase where I wanted every available option from every World market. Just seemed easy enough to add them, so why not?
I do like how they're useful for a passenger when I track the car, even though I generally don't have anyone with me occasionally people ask to ride along. I hate watching people lean on the door panel (the upper forward clip ALWAYS breaks the minute someone leans on it too hard) or the console (one reason why the radio trim breaks, too much side pressure on it) so this is a great way to keep them seated without breaking shit in the car. True a 5pt would be better but I don't track it enough, nor do I have riders that much, to warrant the belt and harness bar. $20 shipped for a pair of handles and all the hardware plus about 20 minutes with a dremel yields good results without going extreme. They blend in fine with the interior since they're OE so anyone not knowing doesn't ask dumb shit about why I've got 'race' equipment in my car.

YES! That is the exact reason why I want this done on my car. Because atleast S13's have the door handle to grab, and S14's..well..door pocket at best but that's how you rip the door pockets out on S14's.
