I hope it's not a stupid question, but are all the rear diff housings/pumpkins the same for the S chassis? I'm changing out my rear diff housing to another that i got from a friend, but when i looked at the one on my car the fins look different. I just wanna know if the bolts will line up.

Only thing that could be different is the axel blot patterns... And s14/s15 use bushing's and spacers... S13 diffs don't... I thnk that's about it

Not many people have replied because they are different. Very very different. Check out the FAQs, I know it's in there. There's all sorts of shit, so be careful.

haha i have 3 of them in my garage..like someone said the s13 one litterally bolts to the subframe.. while the s14 does too..BUT the difference is the bushings. and i dont remember but i think the diff cover from the s14 doesnt match up to the s13 correctly.
so i guess theoreticly, you could just used the s13 diff cover on the s14 diff..i guess
haha
hope that helps your problem!

I've noticed that the diff on my car has the refill plug on the cover, and the replacement diff has it on the left side on the housing. could i be trying to put an s14 diff on my hatch? i just don't want to take my diff out to find that the replacement won't fit.
anyone?

There are around 3 different covers offered for s13. They all have 4 studs. s13 zenki is finned and has the filler on the back. s13 chuki is finned and has filler on the side. s13's with vlsd's are finned and protrude more on the bottom to hold more oil. I forget if those fill on the side or on bottom.
There is only one cover that I know of that is offered for s14's. It's unfinned and has 2 studs.
All s13 covers work with all s13 subframes and s14 covers work with s14 and s15 subframes.

^ Exactly. In addition, S13 cases have two small mounting flanges to bolt to the front of the subframe, S14, S15, Z32, Q45, and J30 all have larger flanges with bigger holes that accept bushings. They all will swap though using the correct hardware.
