lol @ the title
but seriously, i got underneath my car tonight to notice like a grey goo coming from my output shaft on the passenger side. i recently switched to a
j30 vlsd, so i also switched to 5 bolt output shafts.
at the time everything looked good. but now where the shaft meets the diff, there is some grey goo coming out.
can anyone tell me what this is, what it means, and how to resolve it?
thanks!

grey goo is diff fluid, it'll look grey after a while.

i think you need a new output shaft seal.

but the diff is sealed, the fluid wouldnt touch the output shaft.

Sounds like a busted cv axle/boot

i know the diff is sealed, by a seal around each output shaft.

I'm not talking about the vlsd fluid, i'm talking about the actual differential oil.

Or it could be cv joint grease like shinhed said.

Yea its most likely cv grease. Replace axle or cv boot. If it is diff oil change the OIL, and the halfshaft seal.

hmm ok. well upon further inspection, the little cap on the end of the output shaft looks damaged and is not completely sealing. thats where the grey liquid is oozing from. what do i do?

That should just be grease. If it's kinda thick, just replace the CV seal. If it's like drops, then it's the output shaft seal, and you need to drop the diff/take it to a diff shop.

Shouldn't it be white stuff coming out of the tip?

I would get that checked out ASAP
