hi guys.. well i just got my 240 the other day and it is stock. when i pulled in in my drive way the first time i backed it in and I heard a scraping sound so i pulled out and just parked straight on with an angle (thinking it was scraping). Today I noticed as i was parking on a slightly inclined road the scraping sound came up again.. So i thought to myself, there is no way the exhaust would scrape on a level ground. So i figured it must not be the exhause scraping.. http://images.nicoclub.com/forums/images/smilies/frown.gif
Does anybody have any idea what it could be? http://images.nicoclub.com/forums/images/smilies/eek.gif Thinking it might be the transmission, but it doesnt always do it. I still have to figure out when it does it. i mean i know it only does it when im in reverse, but, i think if i start steering it will make that sound. it sounds like its coming from the rear side of the car. Any advice would help.. thanx http://images.nicoclub.com/forums/images/smilies/confused.gif

well yeah, right now thats what im doing.. i try to park somewhere where i dont have to reverse when im parking or leaving.. but it abviously isn't normal for the car to have that scraping sound. So i want to figure it out and get it taken care of before it becomes a bigger problem..

Your rear brake pads are worn down to the metal backing. Replace them. I'm sure the scraping has ruined the rotor as well. Replace that too.

or, like what i discovered in my s14 right when i bought it, one of the brake pads in the rear was missing (yes, missing) (the one next to the piston) and it was just the piston pushing on the rotor. yea.... that was a mess.

It almost a sure thing that you'll have to replace the rotor. Dont wait on it either. I had to wait til payday fix mine. Unfortunatly before I could fix it, the pad popped out when I engaged the e-brake and I had to drive back to the garage grinding the piston to shreds. The piston eventually came loose while driving and everything went downhill from there. I had to replace the rotor, caliper, and pads.

I dont think anything is wrong with your brakes if you pads were gone/low it would be making the scrape griding noise everytime you brake.
But you said it only happens in reverse, im sure its low speed in reverse when you slightly apply the brakes huh?
Its a common gremlin nosie in S-13's.
Check your brakes anyway but im sure everything is fine

yeah.. this is what i thought too. if it was my brakes or what not. it should be constant. but its not, it only on reverse, and it doesnt even do it all the time. I tried to do it the other day so my friend could hear it, it wouldnt do it.. but today, it did it again.. but tommorow for sure my brake pads are gonna be replaced. hope that takes care of it...

you could go to one of those car places that do 30-point inspections and see what turns up. may sound cheesy but a girl i used to know paid like 20 bucks for one, and found out why her car battery would die all the time

i did get that done.. infact it was the 100 point inspection.. the thing closest that i could think of is the brakes.. they said brakes are down to 3mm. so, unless thats where it is coming from then yeah. but other than that i'd be lost

brakes... why dont u take the wheels off and inspect it your self....... 30 bucks a piece for new rotors roughly, and about 20-35 for the pads...DIY... its easy

use your stock jack from the car... do a wheel at a time.. and buy some cheap harbor freight tool set.. all u need is the typical 3/8 12mm 14mm 17mm and 19mm... and a ratchet and a hammer...

so your car makes this noise only when your parking? it might be something with the breaks. I dont know its kinda hard to nail down something as broad as that.
