If you are a first time reader, before you continue reading, know that I never finished this project, I opted for a different chassis due to lack of interest, a new link to the new build will be posted.

Well I posted the start of my project a little while ago, it wasnt enough of a start for the moderators, so Ill try this again, here goes:

I picked up this S14 not to long ago, she was used and abused, but now its time for her to be restored. I got her off a guy on ebay, drove all the way to florida to pick her up and drug her ass back to ohio via my frontier. This is how she looked when I got her:

And here are some shots of the interior:

Im not a fan of the stock Zenki front end, so roaming ebay one day I found this, S15 Full metal and urethane (Just say no to fiberglass) Yeah I know boo but its what I like:

I didnt plan on getting the conversion so soon but a deal just happend to pop up so I bought it up.

Well as you all know S15 fenders are not just a bolt on application, well they are but they arent, they line up with every bolt hole except for one the problem is where they meet the doors, it is slightly different, but different enough to where the ends have to be cut off each fender, swapped and welded back together. For those of you who want to know what is all involved in getting the real metal S15 fenders to fit, I took some pics and I will describe as best as I can.
First remove the S14 fenders from the car:
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b385/SinisterSentra91/S14/IMG_1499.jpg
Then get your S15 fenders:
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b385/SinisterSentra91/S14/IMG_1498.jpg
If you examine the fenders you will see that almost every bolt hole is the same as the S14 fender except for one. But this one bolt hole can be used you just have to drill a hole and run a bolt threw it.
Lower bolt hole comparrison:
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b385/SinisterSentra91/S14/IMG_1500.jpg
Upper bolt hole comparrison:
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b385/SinisterSentra91/S14/IMG_1501.jpg
One would think these fenders should bolt right on, but they dont. There is a slight difference in the shape of the doors and how high the fender goes up the A-pillar on the S15. Also the hood is wider on a S15, so if you bolt the S15 hood on with the S14 fenders the hood will overlap the fenders near the front. So the method to make these fit is either cut and weld, which will give you better durability and fit, or buy fiberglass conversion fenders which often dont fit right and crack from stress. Since I have had enough of fiberglass I paid the extra money for the metal OEM fenders. So here is my method on how I made the metal conversion happened. Using the points, (it comes to an actual point) where both fenders meet the A pillar and the lower bolt holes as reference points, I took masking tape and strung it from point to bolt holes in order to cut a straight line on a curved surface. I left about a half inch more than I needed on each section, so they will overlap. So the S14 fender is taped up like so:
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b385/SinisterSentra91/S14/IMG_1504.jpg
Repeat the same process on the S15 fenders:
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b385/SinisterSentra91/S14/IMG_1502.jpg
Now if you look at both fenders near the bottom you will notice the S14 fender curves in more radically than the S15 fender. So what I did is cut the S15 fender right above the lower body line. So the S15 fender will look like this once taped up and ready to cut:
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b385/SinisterSentra91/S14/IMG_1503.jpg
Now using a jigsaw with a metal cutting blade cut both fenders along the tape edge, once finished they will look like so:
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b385/SinisterSentra91/S14/IMG_1505.jpg
You can throw whats left of the S15 fender away, put whats left of the S14 fender to the side. Make sure the S15 hood is mounted to your vehicle, this will help in making sure the fenders properly line up with the body lines. Bolt both sections of the S15 fender and S14 fender to the car. Unfortunately my camera battery died at this point so all I can do is describe from this point. 3 out of 4 bolt holes on the S15 fender should line up on the dog house, the only one that does not lines up with a bolt hole that does not exist. Bolt the S14 fenders as it normally bolts up. The fenders should overlap eachother if they are cut right. Now this is where you need welding skills or someone who has welding skills. Paying attention to where the fenders line up with the car start from the top and tack weld the fenders together working your way down. Once you get to the point where you need the lower section of the S14 fender to complete the fender, Grab whats left of the S14 fender and hold it up to the fender on the car. Mark the fender on both sides. Using the masking tape, stretch a piece from point to point and cut. Make sure you leave enough to overlap on all sides again. Making sure you pay attention to the body lines once more. Take that section weld it up. Now remove the fender from the car, should look like this:
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b385/SinisterSentra91/S14/IMG_1506.jpg
Here are some pics I have of the passenger side being done:
My buddy Mike working his magic:
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b385/SinisterSentra91/S14/IMG_1479.jpg
Checking the welds:
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b385/SinisterSentra91/S14/IMG_1478.jpg
The end result and how it looks on the car:
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b385/SinisterSentra91/S14/IMG_1481.jpg
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b385/SinisterSentra91/S14/IMG_1484.jpg
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b385/SinisterSentra91/S14/IMG_1483.jpg
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b385/SinisterSentra91/S14/IMG_1482.jpg
Take it to a good body man and have him smooth out the welds and fade in the sections and your good to go. My body lines did not line up which I am ok with, I hate body lines they will get shaved off my car. With a little more cutting and welding you can get the body lines to line up, so you can retain them. Do not I repeat DO NOT cut the fenders at the wheel arches and expect them to line up, S15 fenders are wider. You can cut the section off the fenders that go around the lights and swap them using the same welding method, But I opted for the wider S15 fenders, as I plan for wide body rear and I wanted to retain the turn signal lamps.
All I have to do now is cut out my S14 core support and weld in a S15 one. You can modify your existing S14 core support and finish the conversion after you rewire the headlights, but mine is bent all to hell on top and I want a cleaner factory look, so stay tuned for that install.
Hope that helps anyone who is pondering this conversion.

Got my fenders back from my grandpa and boy am I pleased/excited with the results, he added a high strength glue to them before he smoothed them out so they are extra sturdy. Fitment is awesome, here are some pics of the test fit:

The power plant to be installed:
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b385/SinisterSentra91/S14/VQ35.jpg
This is a motor out of a 05 Infiniti G35X, it had 28k on the od. I scored this off ebay for $400, yeah $400. But here is the catch it was damaged. The pictures werent real clear on the listing. So I took a chance, rolled the dice and came out on top. Turns out everything that was damaged is replaceable. And IF I were to purchase all the parts from the stealership it will run me $900 worse case scenario. I say worse case because I am not sure if this is the 300 hp motor, parts for that motor are more expensive. With the money I save it gives me a chance to build it a bit.

All in all the crank turns just fine it seems to have great compression, it just took a good licking to the outer components. I am happy, it was what I was wanting it to be.
Got the car to my shop and me and my brother started taking what will eventually be the beast apart. Here is some pics of the distruction:

Some of you weight concerned people will hate this others may like it....

You know that Ford truck commercial where they boast about there quietness of their interior due in part to the "heat activated foam" inside the dead areas of the car? I can do that too and my "heat activated foam" is aka Great Stuff, about 12 cans to be exact. Take that Ford.
Here are some pics of the mess, I would highly recommend having no interior while doing this chit gets everywhere! These are pics after the foam has cured, I forgot my camera when I went to inject everything.

This should take care of the roof rattle I have seen alot of S14 guys complain about.
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b385/SinisterSentra91/S14/IMG_1732.jpg
Great stuff is easliy trimmed/broken away so all your interior pieces can be put back in or if your interior is gutted for cleanliness. You dont have to worry much about weight as it is super light. It also is a sealent so it has its advantages in stopping rust from forming in places we cant get to if we tried. I went ahead and did this for all of the above reasons and I wanted to do it before the car gets blasted to keep glass bead from getting into areas I cant vacume out.
Here are some pics of the clean up:

This is just the first phase of my noise control, I absolutely hate road noise, and since this will in no way be a track car, I am not to concerned about a little added weight to quiet down the cabin.

Cool build man. Sorry but that foam is not the correct type. You need the super high density type. And on the vq. Sorry but most likely that engine is toast. Anytime and I mean anytime a crank pulley gets hit or the crank gets hit the engine is toast.

On the plus side you could prob sell that vq for parts and come out ahead.
I also have 2 kits in stock from my shop when I closed it down. These are the vqswap.com kits for the s13 and s14. I will sell them for retarded cheap if you want them.

Let me know and hope you dont find any damage in that engine.

Yeah I have been told about the super high density type but I opted for something more local and accessable. I didnt want to spend much money on something thats not a huge problem for me and it wont ever be seen, I am still pretty sure it will take care of the problem I was aiming to solve anyway which is to take care of rattles. This is a nice polyureathane base foam that wont absorb water so it does the trick for me at least. As far as the VQ, I am going to dismantle it and build it for turbo, so its not like im going to fix the broken parts and hope for the best.

On the swap kit im hella interested, ill shoot you a PM.

not to many in the price range and condition i was looking for, I wanted a rolling chassis with no motor or trans or a chassis that had a blown motor or trans and I ended up finding this for $1k which isnt bad for a decent body S14 SE. the motor already being gone was a plus, saved me time and work

No, I went to buy a new engine stand today being that it was pay day and all so I can get working on the dismantle of it, but some cork sucker busted the window out on my work van and jacked my GPS. So instead of the stand I had to spend my extra cash on buying a new window and a new tomtom :-/

Small update:
I went to see a customer of mine who is going to let me use his blast booth for my car to see how well his bead blasting will strip the under coating of the car and the interior, so I took the rusted portion of the floor board that I cut out and he let me blast it and I was pleased with the results:

Interior side before:
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b385/SinisterSentra91/S14/IMG_1710-1.jpg

After:
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b385/SinisterSentra91/S14/IMG_1743.jpg

Underside before:
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b385/SinisterSentra91/S14/IMG_1709-1.jpg

After:
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b385/SinisterSentra91/S14/IMG_1741.jpg

As you can see the bead blast takes it down to bare metal nicely, it leaves a smooth finish do to it being a fine grain. The interior will be no sweat to strip as the paint is thin, and due to the fine grain it will lightly strip the factory caulk/seam sealent that nissan uses which is great because I didnt want to remove that stuff completely. The underside will take a little time to do, but he said once I get her completely stripped down he will let me get into his shop on the weekends and go to town. I know its not exciting information, but I am a dork and it excites me, lol.

Another update:
Removed the windows tonight, getting closer and closer to sending her to the blast booth!
For those of you who have never removed windows from a car before its pretty easy, you just need wire cutter, buy a windshield removal kit, (Habor Freight $20 FTW!), 2 window suction cups (Harbor Freight again, $8 for both) grab a friend and do work son!
Remove seals:
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b385/SinisterSentra91/S14/BeamBent126.jpg
Cut a decently long length of the instrument wire thats included in the kit:
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b385/SinisterSentra91/S14/BeamBent131.jpg
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b385/SinisterSentra91/S14/BeamBent130.jpg
Push wire through the silicone seal between the window and the car with the pick type tool that is also included in the kit:
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b385/SinisterSentra91/S14/BeamBent132.jpg
Thread both ends of wire through the handles included in the kit (see directions):
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b385/SinisterSentra91/S14/BeamBent133.jpg
With you on the inside of the car and your buddy on the outside of the car or vice versa, pull on the handles back in forth in a sort of tug-o-war / lumber jack sawing motion, this will cut through the silicone seal freeing the glass from the car. Becareful not to go to fast as the wire heats up and the glass is tempered (take that advice, I cracked my perfectly good windshield doing this) you will know when its hot cause you will see smoke lol. Also try not to saw back and forth on one small area of the wire or it will wear down and snap, do long back and forth sawing motions.
Once you have gone around the perimeter of the glass attach the glass suction cups to the windshield on both sides and you and your buddy lift the glass of the car, make sure you hold one hand on the suction cup and the other on the bottom of the glass incase the suction cup is not on there as well as you thought. Store in a safe place till later use.
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b385/SinisterSentra91/S14/BeamBent128.jpg
As the car sits, engine bay and suspension to be stripped completely next.

Thank you so much for the description of the fender splice. I've been looking for a properly-written and photographed walk-through for nearly 5 months.
You have no idea what a help this is to me!

Beware of the body line I didnt take the extra steps to make them match up as my body line will be shaved.

Havent been able to do much but I started on my 350z/240sx hybrid steering column. I am doing this for the nats security needed to start the car and my column is broken from when the previous owner had it stolen from him.

I ran into a slight problem and figured out that my 240sx column is literally broken well bent anyway. I was told when thieves steal cars like ours they drill into the ignition key cylinder and wedge a piece of metal in there keeping the wheel from locking. Well when the thieves stole my car this was not the case. They bent the hell out of the column causing the wheel to lock in funny places:

http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b385/SinisterSentra91/S14/IMG_1748.jpg

Anyone have a not so bent/busted column they want to sell me?

I finished my 350z climate control mold today to replace the old style lever controls, I was going to use the S14 digital climate controls but the complexity of the 350z wiring and incompatibility of the controls forces me to use these. I could probably get the S14 controls to work, but this is just plain easier and I like how the 350z controls look.

Started out with the two trim pieces, obviously the S14 trim on the left and the 350z on the right.
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b385/SinisterSentra91/S14/IMG_1712.jpg

Roughly cut to fit and glued into place, all the while being careful to keep all mounting tabs in place.
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b385/SinisterSentra91/S14/IMG_1713.jpg

Molded and sanded smooth ready for paint:

Painted with the texture back on, truck bed liner ftw!

Finished my 350z/240sx hybrid column today. I landed a new used column off ebay for $15! I opted to combine the two columns because I needed to change out the lock cylinders for the nats security and I wanted the look and the feel of the newer multi controls and the newer keys lol.
Columns side by side (S14 up top 350z on bottom obviously):
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b385/SinisterSentra91/S14/IMG_1746.jpg
Columns would have swapped out almost perfectly if it wasnt for the ends being way different:
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b385/SinisterSentra91/S14/IMG_1747.jpg
So after comparing and planning I decided to combine the two to make one...
Removed the locks for comparison:
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b385/SinisterSentra91/S14/IMG_1749.jpg
Test fit of the 350z lock on the 240sx column:
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b385/SinisterSentra91/S14/IMG_1750.jpg
Found out that due to the different shapes of the slots the locks fit into the 350z lock did not sit flush into the 240sx slot.
240sx one is round like so:
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b385/SinisterSentra91/S14/IMG_1762.jpg
350z is oblonged like so:
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b385/SinisterSentra91/S14/IMG_1761.jpg
But no problem, got out the drill with a metal file bit and went to town and got the lock to seat right:
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b385/SinisterSentra91/S14/IMG_1763.jpg
Now I needed to change the mounting plates for the multi controls in order to use the newer 350z type controls, these are actually controls out of an altima, the reason I used them is because they have a switch for the fog lights that I will hook up to control my factory S15 fogs.
Here is a picture of them to compare (S14 left 350z right):
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b385/SinisterSentra91/S14/IMG_1764.jpg
As you can see the 350z plate is alot larger, but the S14 steering shaft is fatter, so I busted out the grinder took some measurements, made my marks and went to work grinding the welds off to free the plate. End result:
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b385/SinisterSentra91/S14/IMG_1765.jpg
In order to get the 350z plate to fit onto the S14 column the hole in the center needed to be bigger, no sweat. I got out a hole saw some screws and a piece of wood to do the deed. My trick, anytime I want to widen a hole in metal, either to make the circular hole bigger or just to turn a hole that is not circular into a clean circle, is to screw a piece of wood to the back side of the metal and use the wood to keep my drill straight to make a nice clean, circular hole. I did this like so:
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b385/SinisterSentra91/S14/IMG_1768.jpg
After the hole was drilled I lined my bracket up with my marks I put on the column, went down to my buddies house and had him weld it back into place for me. Re-installed the lock cylinder with new shear screws from the $tealer$hip and here is the final product:
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b385/SinisterSentra91/S14/IMG_1769.jpg
And the test fit with the new multi controls:
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b385/SinisterSentra91/S14/IMG_1771.jpg
Steering column.............CHECK! :bigok:

Basically I am just taking the easier route and using the full 350z harness and adapting plugs as I need them to power things such as the headlights and tailights, seems like the logical thing to do since everything is stripped out of the car, plus it will freshen up the interior look by adding newer model nissan parts.

Thanks for all the compliments guys!

Thanks guys, I just like to be different. No offense to everyone, but Im just not down with the typical SR swap and clean stock interior. I like to change it up a bit. I have built enough SR powered fwd cars and frankly, I have grown bored of that engine. Its a great engine and I still like working on them but I wanted to get my hands dirty with something newer and bigger, VQ35 just seemed like the way to go. With the VQ35 came the interior mods. I love gizmos and gadgets so I will have alot more to add to this car.

Ok so I bought this black leather covered steering wheel from a 05 Maxima off ebay for $25.00, to go along with my newer theme, going to make all the controls on the wheel work too.

http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b385/SinisterSentra91/S14/Leatherwheel.jpg

As you can see it comes with no air bag, well I looked up pricing for a used, unactivated air bag and the price starts around $400. So I was like hell-to-the-NO! Especially since I am not putting air bags in this car and I was planning to gut the air bag out. So I went to the local bone yard and got a deployed air bag center for free and went to work. Here is how it looked when I got it:

http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b385/SinisterSentra91/S14/IMG_1774.jpg

http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b385/SinisterSentra91/S14/IMG_1775.jpg

Removed the air bag and the exploeded device thing:
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b385/SinisterSentra91/S14/IMG_1777.jpg

What was left:
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b385/SinisterSentra91/S14/IMG_1776.jpg

Used super glue to temporarly hold everything back in place while the good stuff ( gorilla glue ) did the permanent bonding and held it all in place with tape for the facial reconstruction:
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b385/SinisterSentra91/S14/IMG_1781.jpg

The result:
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b385/SinisterSentra91/S14/IMG_1782.jpg

Put the metal frame back in for the next step:
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b385/SinisterSentra91/S14/IMG_1784.jpg

Filled her up with light weight expanding great stuff to support it (god I love that stuff)
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b385/SinisterSentra91/S14/IMG_1785.jpg

Prepped for some filling and smoothing:
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b385/SinisterSentra91/S14/IMG_1787.jpg

Smoothing it over to hide the creases and cracks from the air bag deployment:
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b385/SinisterSentra91/S14/IMG_1788.jpg

All sanded and ready for final covering:

Black leather to do the deed and match the steering wheel:

Well I posted the start of my project a little while ago, it wasnt enough of a start for the moderators, so Ill try this again, here goes:.........
Pay attention to this, all of the little crybaby's out there. Here's a guy who did something that didn't fly, got his thread locked. What did he do? Did he make a little thread to cry about the big bad mods, and how much he hates zilvia, and rep, and blah, blah, blah. No. He understood that there are rules, and they have to be followed. He waited until he had enough pics to qualify for a "build thread", not a "look I spray painted my front fender thread", then he posted it, and added something to the forum in the process. Its really not that difficult to do the right thing. +1 to you sir, you've earned it. BTW, I can't stand the S15 front end :)

It didnt cost me anything, a guy I know has a big blasting booth and he blasted it for me, he will be doing the whole car soon.

BTW, I can't stand the S15 front end :)

Yeah I know I am going to get that comment quite often, but to each his own, but I also think it goes along with the newer feel I am giving this car. As far as my first thread being locked Ill admit I was a pissed and I even bitched at ThatGuy through PMs a little, but then I read some other hey look at me threads and I realized what the reason for the lock was.

Thanks for all the compliments guys.

They arent exactly the same as the 350z, but I would assume since they both are used to run a VQ35 they can be used. I would further assume this because I have seen people use fwd VQ35s for RWD application so I dont see why not.

Yeah I am going to install the sensors as well, I may have to track them down it depends if the sensors come with the next batch of parts I ordered. If not its all good, Ill track them down. I even thought about putting in the low tire pressure warning sensors as well, depends on how readily available the sensors are when it comes time to put the car back together.

with all things being equal they are they same, just like coca-cola and pepsi cola are both sodas.

but from what drift freaqs been telling me that the FWD blocks aren't as strong as rwd when it comes to HIGH horse power aplications.

but for using a factory ecu or a tuned factory ecu and some mods you should be good. seriously though, theres turbo vq max's out there making 500ish hp turbo running stock internals so i'm not even worried.

speaking of ECU's Sinister you REALLY should use a FACTORY ecu, using a stand alone on a VQ35DE is like using your Nintendo 8bit to play super smash brothers brawl for the wii. Sure you can make an 8bit version of it (im sure some one in china of Philippines has already done it) but it is not the same thing. Nissan has put ALLOT of tech into these ecu's they are equivalent to like a 128bit system. Although Haltech has come along ways with their VQ compatibilities its still can't run on stock sensors and make stock power. Look at all the vq swap guys that are in magazines already, they are making like 250 with cams and headers and exhaust. That is what it should be making factory to the wheels. Even in the superstreet where they compair the s15, s14 ka turbo, and a s13 vq. that s13 only put out supposedly 285 hp, but he was slower than the s14 ka turbo that had 320hp by no more than 2 seconds.
If he had a tuned factory ecu i bet he would of been faster by at least 1 second, but thats just my speculations.

irax the engine harness isnt the same for the Z and the maxima its not even the same for the Z and the G35 there are slight differences if its a Z engine get a Z harness just make it easier on yourself. Haltech platinum has come a very long way you should check out my350z.com those guys are making 20hp over stock from just tuning the haltech but you still need the stock ECU/bcm to control body functions and such. I thought about standalone but factory ECU is probably the better way to go for n/a

I fully intend on using the factory ecu, thats why I am going through all the trouble of swapping in all the 350z wiring harness I have. Its more of a challenge but its actually cheaper. And this car wont be NA, I gave up NA when I was 17. Ever since then I have been addicted to boost lol.

I need a S15 front support....anyone know where I can buy one?

How about a better than new S14 rear support?

Decided if I am going to go all out, go all out. So leather dash it is....

Started by taking out the guts for cleaning of the ducts to get the former owner smoke and ass matter smell out of the vents, it didnt stink or anything you just never know what mystery smells can come from inside those ducts once you get the heat blasting....

http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b385/SinisterSentra91/S14/IMG_1820.jpg

Started removal of the 13 year old dried up vinyl, $hit is like wallpaper, looks ok, but when its time to remove it all it sucks balls.

Ok a little update of where I am now....

Started with this (Dash completely stripped):
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b385/SinisterSentra91/S14/IMG_1823.jpg

And this (Panel that craddles the 350z cluster on a 350z):
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b385/SinisterSentra91/S14/IMG_1819.jpg

Old cluster hump has to go so I traced around the hump to cut as little as possible:
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b385/SinisterSentra91/S14/IMG_1824.jpg

Got out the jig saw, mustered up some nerve, took a deep breath and went to town. Ended up with this:
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b385/SinisterSentra91/S14/IMG_1825.jpg

Trimmed up the 350z panel went to the shop where the S14 is sitting. Bolted in the dash cross bar, and my S14/350 hybrid column. Fitted the panel for the right angle and clearance for viewing and tilt steering. Came up with this:
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b385/SinisterSentra91/S14/P1010005.jpg

Got some fiberglass resin and some fiberglass matting. With some cutting and fitting, I formed the matting around the areas that needed to be filled in. Held in place by some spray adhesive:
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b385/SinisterSentra91/S14/P1010006.jpg
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b385/SinisterSentra91/S14/P1010007.jpg

Mixed up the resin and spread her on:
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b385/SinisterSentra91/S14/P1010008.jpg

Reinforced the underside using the same method:
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b385/SinisterSentra91/S14/IMG_1872.jpg

Got out the body filler and went to town filling and sanding which is where I am now. This is my first time doing such a task so its taking a little longer than expected but I am pleased with the results I am starting to see. Once I am finished its on with the black leather!

Well I thought I could super glue it down enough to keep it in place, yeah that didnt work out well for me. So I ran screws down though the places where it overlapped to hold it in place till I got it home to work on it, then it was gorilla glue and fiberglass ftw!

Ok I tried the SEM coat on my 240sx/350z HVAC shroud, I am not completely happy with the results but it looks more factory textured than truck bed liner. To me it looks too flat, almost dark gray at times. So I think if I throw a matte clear over the top of it, it will give me the finish I am looking for. This way it wont be as flat as the SEM texture coating and not as shiny as the truck bed liner.

http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b385/SinisterSentra91/S14/IMG_1878.jpg

Oh and I tore the cover off my dash, my first time, I wasnt completely happy with. The second time around I will know where to start and I will have my camera handy so I can show you guys that want to know how to do it, do it.

Ok so the first time I did my dash I kinda rushed it which resulted in me not being happy with it. So I ripped the cover off and started over. This time I had my camera ready for those of you who wish to have some kind of direction when attempting to do this yourself.

I do warn you this is not an easy task. If you have any doubts of your personal skills do not attempt this.

The tools and material used:
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b385/SinisterSentra91/S14/IMG_1900.jpg

Decent spray gun, weldwood contact cement, disposable paint brush, paint stick, and the material you wish to use on your dash, alot of it. Other items not pictured: air compressor, odorless mineral spirits, rags, razor blade and spray adhesive.

First thing, have PATIENCE this is in no way a easy task. TAKE YOUR TIME, if you rush you will not be pleased with the results. My dash has taken a period of three days to do.

Ok now best place to start is the curviest place on the dash as it can be the hardest to form. During this process there will be a lot of peeling up, stretching and putting back down until you get it right. The best way to tell the hard part is to stretch the material over the areas of concern and see how easily the material will take the form of the dash. I choose to start here:
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b385/SinisterSentra91/S14/IMG_1902.jpg
Obviously none of you will have this PITA to mold unless your doing a dash like mine or a 350z dash. In this area I will use the disposable paint brush to apply the glue. The trick is to apply the glue sparingly and let it tack up a bit before trying to form the material into the target area. You want to stir up the glue really well with the paint stick:
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b385/SinisterSentra91/S14/IMG_1902.jpg
Apply with a the brush as stated above and start forming the material, mine turned out like this:
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b385/SinisterSentra91/S14/IMG_1903.jpg

I let that area sit over night, I used the cluter as a weight to hold it down:
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b385/SinisterSentra91/S14/IMG_1904.jpg

That was day 1.

Day 2

I picked the cluster up off the dash to examine under it, not to bad some spots had lifted but its no big deal since those spots will never be seen. I then prepared to mold the top part of the dash which is the flatest. With the S14 dash or even the S13 dash I would recomend doing the bottom part before I do the top. Its trickier, and takes a little more time. It also allows you to have more movement with the material since the top part is free moving. Anyway back to the dash. I got out my paint gun and with the air compressor attached to it ready to go:
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b385/SinisterSentra91/S14/IMG_1907.jpg

Poured the contact cement into it after I stirred it up once again. Peeled back the material all the way up to the point where the already glued down material starts:
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b385/SinisterSentra91/S14/IMG_1906.jpg

Sprayed the full flat area, let it tack up and started stretching the material, making sure I got out all the wrinkles, looked like so when finished:
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b385/SinisterSentra91/S14/IMG_1912.jpg
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b385/SinisterSentra91/S14/IMG_1908.jpg
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b385/SinisterSentra91/S14/IMG_1909.jpg

As you will see there are slits in the material, I did this with the razor blade to take some of the tension out of the stretched material to make it easier to work with. I used a leather alante. Its not real leather but it looks and feels like leather. Its just easier to work with and it wont dry out, shrink, or crack like leather. Its what they use in BMWs and such.

That was Day 2, and how it sits as of the moment.

Day 3

Tomorrow I will repeat the same process as day 2, just on the lower half. I will most likely let that sit over night then trim the excess material off and secure it to the back side with spray adhesive.

To clean your gun out dump some mineral spirits in the tank and shake it up, with some rags you can wipe out the inside of the tank because the cement will almost instantly turn into a gum like substance and is easily removed. I sprayed some of the mineral spirits through the gun to keep the tip from clogging. I would let the mineral spirits sit inside the canister that way it will keep the gun from clogging.

The mineral spirits is also great for clean up, and if your using a leather or a vinyl you wont have to worry about overspray on your material because it will come right off with the mineral spirits.

I hope this helps anyone thinking of tackling such a project. If anyone has any questions, feel free to ask.

Well this next mod definitely tested my patience. I needed to modify the door lock to match the ignition. I really didnt need to but I wanted to, and I can, lol. Well first thing first was to remove the door handle from the door. I got the two bolts holding the handle to the door removed. I thought thats all I would have to do. After coming up with no way to get the lock off that was holding it, being pressed on time I got pissed pulled out my trusty BFH (Big fucking hammer, for those of you that dont know) and a flat tip screw driver and beat the shit out of the lock till it broke out and I was left with the door handle that looked a little something like this from the back:
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b385/SinisterSentra91/S14/IMG_1921.jpg

So now the task is to combine this 240sx door handle with this 350z lock:
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b385/SinisterSentra91/S14/IMG_1914.jpg

So I devised a plan and got out my dremel and went to work. I thought a diamond cutting blade would eat right through this metal but hell no it didnt. It took me FOREVER to get through this metal to cut out the bulk of it. I then got out my grinder and ate up as much metal as I could. Even that took forever. I even tried the grinding stone attachment for the dremel, still took forever to even make a dent. Suprisingly the most effective tool for this task was the mini drum sander attachment for the dremel which also happened to be the last thing I tried. Go figure. I underestimated this little attachment, luckily I had plenty of replacement sand paper covers for it, because I went through quite alot of them getting the metal down to this:
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b385/SinisterSentra91/S14/IMG_1927.jpg

Test fitted the lock to see if my plan had panned out and I was happy to find out it did:
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b385/SinisterSentra91/S14/IMG_1932.jpg

Did some additional grounding on the lock hole just a bit more to allow the 350z lock to fit in the slot better and cut out a section of the handle for proper clearance of the key swipe. If you dont get the idea, I will explain. As you can see the 350z lock mounting hole lines up with the stud that takes the nut that mounts the handle to the body. The idea is to break the stud out, put a longer one in so the lock mount can go between the door mounting hole and the nut that tightens it to the door. For stability I am going to add another stud through the other mounting hole, I will either have the stud welded to the back of the handle or I will drill one though the front of the handle which shouldnt be a big deal to cover up since I am shaving that body line that it will land on.

At the end of it all the handle turned out a little something like this:
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b385/SinisterSentra91/S14/IMG_1922.jpg
(Ignore the scratched up look on the handle, it got so hot the paint melted during the grinding process. No worries it will get sandblasted clean)

Passenger side lock will get shaved for cleanliness.

Bet your keys dont look like this :hsdance: :

Excellent timing! I just got my Solex 'barrel style' locks in, and need to figure out a way to get the lock in the door handle. Good pics :)

I believe I'll be grinding out most of the metal, like you did, and JB Welding the lock in there. Nice to see what I'm up against.

Ok thought I would put up an update, its not much but its something. Finished my dash, one dilema I had was since I cut out the hump where the old cluster went the drivers side upper vent didnt lie flat against the dash anymore because the vent overlays where the hump starts to form. So what to do? I thought maybe I could heat it up and form it but I was afraid it wouldnt form right and melt/bubble up so I got to thinkin and I came up with this:

http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b385/SinisterSentra91/S14/IMG_1948.jpg

I used a passenger side vent off a rhd S14, I figured it had to be the same as the passenger side vent on lhd S14s except mirrored and it was. So with that I put all the duct work under the dash back together. I was pleased to see that everything went right back to where it normally does stock:

Passenger underside:
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b385/SinisterSentra91/S14/IMG_1942.jpg

And the area I was worried about not going back together the same, the Driver underside:
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b385/SinisterSentra91/S14/IMG_1944.jpg

As a whole:
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b385/SinisterSentra91/S14/IMG_1941.jpg

The only thing that didnt fit right is the duct end that feeds the drivers side upper vent since it wasnt the orginal vent. I heated it up with a torch and worked the plastic to take the new vent. It worked, its not pretty and I heated it up a little too much, but it works and you will never see it:

http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b385/SinisterSentra91/S14/IMG_1945.jpg

And the finished product:

Ok ok! Here is an update, keeping it real with the 350z theme, it was time to do the window switches. I got home from work today and I was excited to find my 350z trim pieces came in.

Here are the window trim pieces side by side, brand new S14 trim pieces (had to buy new ones because finding ones where the screw hole in the handle is in one piece is damn near impossible to find used) on the left, used painted blue 350z trim pieces on the right:
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b385/SinisterSentra91/S14/IMG_1953.jpg

First things first, get the blue paint off, did this using aircraft stripper, dont get this chit on your skin it burns!:
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b385/SinisterSentra91/S14/IMG_1954.jpg
Spray it on:
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b385/SinisterSentra91/S14/IMG_1955.jpg
Let it sit for a minute till it starts peeling up:
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b385/SinisterSentra91/S14/IMG_1956.jpg
Wash it off, and the result:
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b385/SinisterSentra91/S14/IMG_1957.jpg
Now to cross the two I have to cut out the stock cut outs in the S14 switch trim and replace them with the 350z cut outs, using my handy dremel and a diamond cutting blade all the while being careful to retain the stock mounting points for the new window switches:
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b385/SinisterSentra91/S14/IMG_1958.jpg
After some cutting:
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b385/SinisterSentra91/S14/IMG_1960.jpg
Whats left over after the mayhem:
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b385/SinisterSentra91/S14/IMG_1961.jpg
Got out my new favorite glue, gorilla glue fast dry:
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b385/SinisterSentra91/S14/IMG_1963.jpg
Glued the new pieces in place, clamped them with some vice grips to let dry:
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b385/SinisterSentra91/S14/IMG_1965.jpg
After drying:
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b385/SinisterSentra91/S14/IMG_1966.jpg
Excess dried glue trimmed away:
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b385/SinisterSentra91/S14/IMG_1967.jpg
Got out the bondo and the sandpaper and went to work smoothing them together and the result:
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b385/SinisterSentra91/S14/IMG_1968.jpg
Got out the black texture paint to add the stock look back:
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b385/SinisterSentra91/S14/IMG_1969.jpg
Plugged the switches back in and here you have the finished product:

One might think, but this way I wont have to cut and splice as many wires which means less electrical gremlins. Almost everything will be plug and play. I also get the features of express up and down. Besides it gives me something to do while I am gathering the funds to get the big fun stuff.

350 z interior is not that nice, and please dont put 350z body panels on this car.

What you see is all of the 350z components that will be visible on the car, besides the motor. Everything else will stay S14, no wacky body kits, no crazy ass 350z body panels. Just a widebody rear S14 with a S15 front with JDM sideskirts and rear with some nice offset rims. Trust me it will be tastefully done right. The only reason these components are being used is I do not wish to rewire the components to work with the S14 components. Because A. I want to do something completely different all around, B. No electrical issues. I can wire the stuff, but believe it or not this way is easier and less painless.

Overall its a challenge for me to dip into regions I have never had experience in, trying to figure out wat I cant do and it keeps me busy between saving money for the next big purchase, lol.

Well I pressure washed it as I was impatient and my brother already had the pressure washer out. But yeah you can strip it multiple times and rinse it with water till you get them clean. Try not to get the chit on your skin it wont burn you but it irritates the skin and feels like its burning you. Sucks.

Lol well just bought my oxygen tank, wire, nismo mounts, and tommorrow I am buying my 05 transmission with 22k on it since 04 trans seem to have problems. Gearing up for the weekend.....
Nismo S14 mounts came in, dont know if they will work with the mount kit or if I need 350z mounts, but I figured if they dont work I can always sell them:

And the test fit with the swap kit transmission crossmember:

Unfortunately my friend was unable to make it up to my shop today to help me with the welding so I went ahead and got the motor ready and decided to test fit it with the mount kit.
Pulled her out of the corner with our pallet jack, got the hoist leveler bolted to her:
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b385/SinisterSentra91/S14/IMG_1985.jpg
Picked her up and dismantled the damaged portion of the bottom, the remains:
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b385/SinisterSentra91/S14/IMG_1991.jpg
Damaged G35x upper oil pan to the left, 350z to the right:
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b385/SinisterSentra91/S14/IMG_1992.jpg
Think I should swap in the G35x baffle?
The only damaged parts left on the motor, the front timing cover and crank pulley, which I have both:
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b385/SinisterSentra91/S14/IMG_1990.jpg
A little look at the extremely clean bottom end:
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b385/SinisterSentra91/S14/IMG_1989.jpg
Temporarily reassembled bottom end for fitment purposes:
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b385/SinisterSentra91/S14/IMG_1996.jpg
Put the new shifter bracket onto the trans, which was a *****. Its no wonder VQswap.com has had complaints about fitment. Had to bend this sucker a bit to get it to line up properly. Luckily I got this kit CHEAP since I didnt buy from them directly.
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b385/SinisterSentra91/S14/IMG_2011.jpg
Started to get her all nestled in when we realized the arms that go between the motor mounts and the motor on a G35 would hit the frame rails:
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b385/SinisterSentra91/S14/IMG_2013.jpg
So back out she came, for removal of the arms:
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b385/SinisterSentra91/S14/IMG_2016.jpg
After removing the manifolds, removing the arms and temporarily bolting the manifolds back on, back in she went:
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b385/SinisterSentra91/S14/IMG_2018.jpg
Here she is all positioned awaiting for her front mounts to be made:
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b385/SinisterSentra91/S14/IMG_2019.jpg
Transmission is all mounted with the swap kit cross bar:

Shifter is positioned in the stock hole:
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b385/SinisterSentra91/S14/IMG_2026.jpg
But, I am concerned about the angle the shifter is sitting at, might have to cut it and re angle it to be level:
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b385/SinisterSentra91/S14/IMG_2027.jpg
Not sure if thats how its supposed to sit :dunno:, this is VQswap.coms pictures theirs looks more level, another fitment issue possibly? Looks like the angle is off the way they welded it looks like I will have to cut and weld to fix it.

You could do that but I am removing all the lines for when I have the car blasted, so then I am free to route the lines where ever. Someone doing this to a S chassis and not going as extreme as I am could do that.

My friend came by the shop today and we got busy on the car...
It started out as this engine bay with the hacked giant holes from the previous owner which needed to be filled in:
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b385/SinisterSentra91/S14/IMG_1986.jpg
Got to cutting on the drivers side:
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b385/SinisterSentra91/S14/P1010018.jpg
To cover the hole, a trailer fender I bought off ebay. The original backing went on the opposite side of the trailer fender. My friend Mike and I ground it off and re-welded it to the other side for a cleaner, more round look. It also served as my practice piece in my welding training, lol:
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b385/SinisterSentra91/S14/P1010019.jpg
Using some card board for a rough mock up:
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b385/SinisterSentra91/S14/P1010020.jpg
Cut the trailer fender in half, fit it to cover the hole and cut away the extra metal that was un needed:
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b385/SinisterSentra91/S14/P1010023.jpg
Welded the fender in place:
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b385/SinisterSentra91/S14/P1010029-1.jpg
Cut out the rest of the rough hole that was cut and welded some metal in its place:
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b385/SinisterSentra91/S14/P1010030-1.jpg
Did the same to the other side:
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b385/SinisterSentra91/S14/P1010027.jpg
And we ran out of metal, so here is how she currently sits till next time when we have more sheet metal:
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b385/SinisterSentra91/S14/P1010033-1.jpg
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b385/SinisterSentra91/S14/P1010034-1.jpg
And an idea of what she will look like with the new S15 core support installed:
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b385/SinisterSentra91/S14/P1010036-1.jpg

For now, I have some reading material my friend brought me back fresh from japan (well I cant read it but the pictures sure are freakin sweet!)

what kit r u goin with i didnt see if u said anything about it if anything when i get my car out later today from the shop ill pm u some pics of how my car came out

IM going to build my own, its going to be built based off the power lab 350z single GT35R turbo kit, the power lab kit comes with some things I do not wish to use like the turboxs module and the oil pan spacer, plus I know any kit that I buy I will have to cut/modify in some way. Call me crazy but I just cant bring myself to cut up an $8k kit, especially when it can be somewhat duplicated easily because it runs off of the stock manifolds.

wow looks like less room to turbo the vq on s chassis than the Z chassis... didn't think that was possible

Actually there is alot more room in there then you think, easily way more room than the Z33.

Workin on it bud!

That's what I thought when I saw the pics too. You're going to try to run stock 350z/G35 manifolds, with a cross pipe behind the motor or what? Doesn't seem like there's enough room between the motor and the firewall with the tranny being so tall.

Anyhow, great work so far, and can't wait to see more :)

Well Im going to buy better manifolds, the stock ones choke the chit out of the motor. Yes I am going to run a cross pipe in there some how, some way lol. Havent quite got to planning out routing it as I have been busy with welding the tire wells as you can see, but ill get creative and figure out something.

the later year box's like the 05+ seem to be good for around 700ish more with treated gears n such.

I'll wait till I go through a couple before I invest into an HPI setup

I'll echo what most have said. Very nice fab work. I'm sure many will knock spending time on the guages, hvac, window controls and such, but it looks like you are working hard at keeping it all very clean looking.

Oh, a word of advice - steer clear of the kinetics VQ intake manifold... those things are crap, actually loose power (I've tested them on stock to 500whp boosted VQ's) and the quality is not up to snuff (pin-holes causing vacuum leaks, etc). Check out some of the 350z forums and you will find lots of threads backing up my statements if you need further convincing.

People can knock all they want but until they have seen how complex the 350z wiring is vs 240sx wiring, you will soon agree on just molding the hvac controls and such. Its just plain easier. Now I could have gone without the instrument cluster and the window controls, but I figured why not? I like being different as possible while keeping things flowing in a stock looking manor. This way I can plug everything in and have the piece of mind of knowing that I wont have electrical gremlins. That, and its something to do while waiting to get enough money together to make the next big mod.

Yeah I have recently seen some reviews/threads like that which are making me look else where for an intake mani, I wouldnt mind keeping the stock one its just so ugly lol and above all it looks restrictive as hell.

flawless. it's been a long time since i've seen something "new" being done to an s chassis. you sir have done it. my favorite thread on zilvia in quite some time.

it's refreshing to see a nice street build even tho i love the track sluts. most 240 owners give up hopes of any sense of luxury in the interior, but you're bringing the heat with this one.

So I convinced my buddy to buy an S14 for his next project car, he is a fellow Sentra/NX2000 builder. He found this beauty that was begging for a swap:
http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f254/xxtokesxx/1995%20240sx%20Base/NXFTW445.jpg
http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f254/xxtokesxx/1995%20240sx%20Base/240SXIntro003.jpg
http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f254/xxtokesxx/1995%20240sx%20Base/240SXIntro002.jpg
http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f254/xxtokesxx/1995%20240sx%20Base/240SXIntro011.jpg
So it was time to find a suitable motor for this swap...Uh oh what is this?
http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f254/xxtokesxx/1995%20240sx%20Base/VQ%20Project%20Pictures/NewMotor005.jpg
800lbs of swapping goodness...
http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f254/xxtokesxx/1995%20240sx%20Base/VQ%20Project%20Pictures/NewMotor007.jpg
Lets see what we got here, any of you know what this bad boy is?:
http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f254/xxtokesxx/1995%20240sx%20Base/VQ%20Project%20Pictures/240sxBuild006.jpg
Its a VQ30DET out of a Nissan Cedric in Japan. Its a single turbo VQ. They came strictly with an automatic trans. This motor can be found here in America non turbo and in a fwd variation in the Nissan Maxima and the Infiniti I30. Both motors can be used in RWD form. Both the VQ35 and the VQ30 blocks and heads are damn near identical, except obviously the internals are different and the VQ35 has the variable timing. The VQ30 has 9:1 compression, piston squirting oil intercoolers etc... This swap has not been done very often due to there hasnt been a manual trans that is available that would bolt right up to the motor till the G35 and 350z hit the market. So what we have is a VQ30DET and a G35 6 spd trans combo that will be put into this car.
So here is the reason why I have not made any more progress on my ride. We decided to see if the turbo setup off the VQ30DET will bolt up to the VQ35DE and fit in the 240sx. Which would be sweet because it will be a cheaper alternative to an aftermarket single turbo kit.
Here are some pics of the dismantle of the turbo setup:
My buddy Ameen (the owner of the engine and the S14) at work:
http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f254/xxtokesxx/1995%20240sx%20Base/VQ%20Project%20Pictures/240sxBuild034.jpg

Close up shot of the turbo side of the motor with the heat shields on.
http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f254/xxtokesxx/1995%20240sx%20Base/VQ%20Project%20Pictures/240sxBuild033.jpg
With the heat shields off:
http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f254/xxtokesxx/1995%20240sx%20Base/VQ%20Project%20Pictures/240sxBuild041.jpg
Close up shot of how the cross pipe is ran, IIRC its similar to the 350z powerlab single turbo setup:
http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f254/xxtokesxx/1995%20240sx%20Base/VQ%20Project%20Pictures/240sxBuild031.jpg
The whole turbo setup removed, this whole setup is being taken to my shop for trial and error fitment:
http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f254/xxtokesxx/1995%20240sx%20Base/VQ%20Project%20Pictures/240sxBuild049.jpg
From what we have read and have seen the turbo is a Nissan made turbo and is very close to, if not the same as the RB25DET stock turbo. It's basically a T3 compressor housing, Ameen believes they applied some of garrett's tech, and used a ceramic turbine with a T3 flange as well. He has heard it has flow characteristics of a Super-60. He had a turbo like this before and sold it last year for cheap. Its alright for stock boost but they suck at boost levels higher than 15lbs, the ceramic blades shatter.
http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f254/xxtokesxx/1995%20240sx%20Base/VQ%20Project%20Pictures/240sxBuild042.jpg
Compared to a stock GTI-R SR20DET T28 turbo:
http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f254/xxtokesxx/1995%20240sx%20Base/VQ%20Project%20Pictures/240sxBuild045.jpg
The motor as it sits turbo-less. It looks almost like a stock VQ35DE...
http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f254/xxtokesxx/1995%20240sx%20Base/VQ%20Project%20Pictures/240sxBuild050.jpg
http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f254/xxtokesxx/1995%20240sx%20Base/VQ%20Project%20Pictures/240sxBuild051.jpg
So now its off to the shop for some test fitting of the VQ30DET setup on a VQ35DE, this might be a cheaper alternative for those with a VQ35 looking to go FI (Oh yeah that is metal valve covers you see on that VQ30 instead of those gay plastic ones.....)

gregfarz78
09-20-2008, 08:22 PM
Interesting swap, where did he find one of those motors and how much? I'd imagine the internals are a little beefier since it was designed for boost unlike the vq35 which really doesn't hold up well to high boost. Wonder if those valve covers will fit a vq35 I hate those plastic ones

Were working on that alot of this is test fitting, were also working on designing two kits, one that mounts the motor to the s-chassis. Overall I am not pleased with VQswap's mount kit. I personally think its poorly designed and put together and from what I have heard I am not the only person to think this, so I came up with my own design that will in my opinion work out better. The other kit we are designing is a single turbo kit to fit in the s-chassis universal for both the VQ35 and VQ30 as we have found that the VQ30DET turbo setup unfortuntely wont work because of steering column clearance issues.

Just glad to see that you didnt give up on it? Have you gotten the parts for your car?

Yes I have recieved a few odds and ends I need to get the ball rolling, just been real busy. I will never give up on this car, its a personal test of my building skills and I will not let myself fail.

This is awsome seeing as how I was thinking about going this route. Hope to see this project finished!

Yeah I know what you mean. I'm a bit of a designer/fabricator myself and I love to see examples of how to go about things. I personally would have gone with a vertical style intercooler for the setup I posted pictures of to shorten the length of that IC piping. I've also got a strange suspicion that you may be able to mount you motor up quite well to an r33 cross-member. I could be very wrong though.

This picture shows the use of a modified s13 cross member.

http://www.nissansilvia.com/forums/index.php?act=attach&type=post&id=126662

also I'm curious as to how much you got your motor set for? Because I may be picking mine up very shortly.
