Okay, searched around and found nothing to my specific question.
So, here's the question:
I ordered my GP Sports roof spoiler and know that I can use 3m double sided tape to make it stick. Good. Great. Grand. WONDERFUL....NO YELLING ON THE BUS!!!! haha, okay.
Are there different strengths of 3M or just one kind? I remember reading (from the search) that the "red" one is OEM quality. Is this something a local store will have or do I have to order it from a certain place? Thanks in advance guys and gals.

The strongest 3m double tape i know of is grey.
Even then I only use it to mount electronics, otherwise I wouldn't use it for a spoiler.

you already posted it but +1 on the red one. I used that for my side skirts. Lowe's and Home Depot has it on my area.

The Grey stuff is now Clear with a Red backer. It's an acrylic gel in tape form.
Make sure you clean the surfaces with loads of rubbing alcohol. Stuff holds great but fails when dirty.

I will look for the clear with the red back.
Lowes or home depot huh? I'll have to go and check it out. Thanks for the tip with rubbing alcohol!

So then why is it that everyone refers to this tape for these things? :\
I'll post pics when I get it on :}

I used to buy mine from Autozone. I always have a roll on me for stuff, that, electrical tape and gorilla duct tape.
As far as the colors, I always thought there were only 1 car. The tape itself is gray but the cover/peel is red.

I used 3m "Molding Tape" on my roof spoiler and it's not gonna budge. I've used that stuff to hold a license plate on a stock bumper under the turn signal and it held it there fine. I swear. LOL

Because I'm just crazy like that. If its not bolted or fastened to the exterior of the car, it doesn't belong there.
That doesn't mean this isn't fine, this just means I'm crazy.

3M has an assload of tapes. Like, seriously. I've got the grey with red back, I've got the clear with red back. Grey is higher rated, especially for exterior use. Those are the only two I carry, but having access to their catalog I can tell you there are many many more.
That said, I vote Grey.

Go to an autobody supply store, they'll have exactly what you need. Most places can even assist you in the right width, strength, etc.

I used some 3M Exterior Mounting tape for my side skirts from walmart. The tape holds up to 5 lbs for a certain length. I almost broke my side skirts (oem not fiberglass) trying to take them off since I lined them up wrong. Just make sure to clean the taping areas with rubbing alcohol, both the skirt side and car.

not necesarily related, but how do you guys reckon that stuff would go sticking down rubber-backed carpet to interior? i want to stick some carpet in the rear of my car, but i think that would be much easier to work with and less messy & permanent than spray adhesive...

That 3m tape works great. Definitely make sure you clean with rubbing alcohol. Also use that 3m prep stuff, you wipe it on the surfaces before you apply the tape. Use that stuff and it won't come off.

gorilla duct tape.
+1 for gorilla tape. I have it on my top.
No, I'm not proud of it, but I don't have rain dripping onto my upholstery either.

No, 3M Super 77 Spray Adhesive is where its at. Spray a little, let it sit for a min, then put down a section of carpet, spray, and repeat.

Actually, I had Gorilla tape on my top too. *laugh* Stuff holds up for quite a while too. After it gave out, I got some black rubber marine cement and used a tightly woven canvas material that came from a cooler bag. Cut out a square, sewed the hole together, then applied the epoxy to the entire area. After which I smashed the fabric to it and hand clamped it for about 10 minutes. Never leaked again and is still there after like 6 months.
