im wondering, before i buy the short shifter in the group buy that
when u get a short shifter, which one would it be in the pic? the red or the blue?
the red:
the shift up and down is shorter, but the distance between gears in neutral is the same as stock
the blue:
the shift up and down is short like the red, BUT the distance between gear in neutral is SHORT also.
my bro says its the red one, but could be diff for cars. so wondering if anybody has B&M, which one would it be?
hope ya'll understand wat im tryin to say
mods move this where ever it fits

I think it's the red one also.

Actually, the B&M is more like the blue part, yet the throws are even shorter. An OBX is more like the red (I've owned both).
In fact, the side-to-side motion *does* change, it's just a relatively small difference in comparison to the back-and-forth motion. Just remember this:
*****You're changing the fulcrum point of a lever. All motion - in 3 dimensions - will be changed the same amount. It's a percentage thing*****

So the B&M has even shorter throws than the pilot/obx one??
If so say goodbye to my shortshifter hello B&M <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/laugh.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''>

Ummm, yeah. By a freaking LOT. The B&M is the king shit of shifters for the 240. Buy one. But don't come crying to me about the fact that it makes a swirling noise all the time. It's just the sound of the gears meshing together. The vibration comes right up the shifter shaft and finally buzzes out through your shift knob. Don't complain. It's worth the noise for all that precision.
Only caveat:
Install is a BIATCH with the tranny in the car. Took me 3 freaking hours! <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/devil.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''>

All short shifters for our cars will be like the blue part.
reason being is the fulcrum point on the shifter is moved so that you have less leverage. the amount of material past the fulcrum is lengthened, so all directions of movement are reduced the same percentage. you may not understand what I'm talking about till you get in there, and start tearing things apart.
edit - doh.. I completely missed erics post..

How was the install so hard? I remember my pilot short shifter was the first thing I ever did to my car. Pretty straight forward. I figured since the B&M comes in one piece as opposed to the half moon crap the pilot one has it would be easier to install.

Ya know how the OBX/Pilot basically just adapts to the current shifter housing? Well, the B&M replaces EVERYTHING. You get a whole new 6-bolt top piece. So you have to take off the old one, and put in the new one. The main problem are the two bolts that are wayyyyy up under the tranny tunnel. I guess if you have really long fingers it might be easy. <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'> Seriously, though...just be patient and it'll go together. If I did it again, it would take less time (since I F'd up the RTV the first time by not letting it cure long enough...oh, and I forgot to fill the damn tranny <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/dozingoff.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''> )

oh wow. I didn't know it was like that!?!? That probably explains why the damn thing is so expensive <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/laugh.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''>
Thanks for the info Eric

An easier way of getting the two top bolts without getting underneath the car is to use a drummel(sp?) to cut 2 holes up at the top and just use a deep socket wrench to get at them.
Just put some dynamat over it after you're done.
it's a hell of a lot easier for me

true. but i was in the middle of a parking lot with no access to electricity. crawling under the car and cursing at the situation was what worked best for me <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/laugh.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''>

Eric, so the B&M shifter rattles like a mofo all the time? I don't mind the swirling gears sound, but a rattle would be annoying. What is the amount of rattle?
My old mazda had so much rattle, I had to usually hold it while driving so it'd stay quiet.

The only time there is a "rattle" is when I get past 7000 rpm and the shift knob starts to resonate (remember physics?). Anyway, beyond that, it's just a bit of a whirling sound...hard to describe. If you have the windows open, or the radio on, you really can't hear it. But if you're in the car with the radio off and the windows up, you girl might ask you "what's that sound?" But that's about it.
Get one <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>

yea my shfit knob isnt secured down so it rattles and my gf always ask me wats that noise! haha
anyways..does short shifts reduce 1/4 times? well i found out all of our gears are shorted [blue one] but does it shorten 1/4 times? my bro posted it up on his integra forum and theyall say it wont by itself witha light flywheel mayb so will it?

well, it will make your shifts take less time, so you may be able to get down the 1320' a bit quicker. i have no proof of this, though.
