View Full Version : Loose Battery Cable Cause This?????

Hey guys,

Posted a few weeks ago about a charging problem that I had. Well I ended up checking my alternator and it tested "Good" so I took the battery to have it tested and it turned out to be "Defective".

I replaced the battery with a new one and changed out my battery cables as well. Everything was fine with the car for a few days, until I was driving it home the other day and the car bucked on the FWY and as I was turning onto my street the car just died.

I popped my hood and noticed that my negative battery cable was loose:duh: I tightened it and tried starting it w/ the multimeter on it and it was really low, took it to the kragen and they said it needed a charge and then they would test it. They charged it / tested it and it came back "Good"

So my question is, would the battery cable being loose have caused my battery to drain?

Thanks,
Ivan

Are you serious?

Poor connection = no connection, they're pretty much the same thing.

It started fine after battery was charged but wasn't sure if it might be another charging problem or if the loose cable was the root of all the problems.

lol, thanks RDM. I was actually thinking to myself when I was typing the original post, "if RDM finds this post he's going to rip me"

Thanks

I was feeling nice, but you should know better. Just like with anything, a loose connection creates resistance, therefore hindering current flow. Limited flow means limited charging.

Don't do it again. ;)
