My uncle came over and repaired my cracked dash on my S14, thought I would share with you what he does for a living....
I had three small cracks but Ill just show the one he repaired, which is basically a hole.
Started with a little surface prep:
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b385/SinisterSentra91/S14/IMG_1680.jpg
Then added some crack (filler) lol but it looks like crack
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b385/SinisterSentra91/S14/IMG_1681.jpg
Some hardener:
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b385/SinisterSentra91/S14/IMG_1682.jpg
A little more sanding:
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b385/SinisterSentra91/S14/IMG_1683.jpg
Some texture added back to the smooth surface followed by dying of the area to match the rest of the dash, and you get this:

"Hey, by the way, while your at it, can you do something about the stupid SRS Airbag writing on the dash?"
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b385/SinisterSentra91/S14/IMG_1686.jpg

http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b385/SinisterSentra91/S14/IMG_1691.jpg
What do you guys think?
My uncle said he would be willing to do this for the forum members if they would like to send items to be repaired. He can also re dye seats and such back to their original color, as well as body panels. He can even repair small rips and cigarette burn holes in seats to. If anyone is interested, pm me.

Thank you! I have 2 little spider cracks above my gauge cluster that have bugged me so much seeing as my dash used to be mint as hell. What filler and hardener did you use? What grit sand paper? What did you dye it with? You're missing a few things so I'm asking for others.

seriously. I mean it's not as if he would have my business just because he can do this for me. I'm not about to ship my dash to Cincinnati for two little cracks and then shipped back to me.

If you would bother to read the thread you would see that he offered to do it for others. Its pretty resonable rates. If you dont like it thats ok, I just want to make it known that just because you have a crack in your dash doesnt mean the whole dash is screwed or has to be recovered there is an alternative.

I did read it. I don't mind him offering, but actually helping the community would be to tell us how to do this ourselves. His rates to do this would probably be cheap if I were to bring him everything, but I'm in Cali. Did you honestly think everyone would be willing to ship things nationwide to your uncle?
I've known that just because there are cracks in the dash doesn't mean it's screwed. I know another method that a lot of 240/260/280 Z owners do to their dashes, but that's too involved.

I only know part of the stuff that was used, I could tell you half of it but you would end up with smoothed spots and no texture, the textured part I am not sure what he used to do it, dying it is another problem, its pretty in depth too. If I thought I could do this easily I would give out the info, but seeing as how if its not done right it could make your dash look ten times worse, I think Ill not let what little I know out. I was just trying to help you guys out with a suggested alternative thats all.

lol.
wtf @ this thread..
I was expecting a how-to after looking at those pics.
Shipping a dash or something that big would cost a shitload of money, not to mention the chance of it cracking/being damaged during shipment.
Just spill it..

Thank you for understanding, If he didnt specifically ask me not to disclose the info I would have posted up what I know in a heartbeat I would have even aksed him to tell me everything he used. Maybe I shouldnt have posted this, sorry if I wasted everyones time.
If you really want the info go to the local used certified car dealership and ask who repairs their interiors, if they give out that info, then go hound that guy and see if he gives you the info you need. I am just simply respecting my uncles wishes.

seriously, people in OH would find this really great but not a lot of people here are going to be removing their dash to do this. Now, a RHD dash would be worth getting done but for us LHD guys it's just not worth it. People who live cross country, maybe you could send us the materials used on a PM with a gentelmans agreement not to share it and we could hold on to it and do our repairs ourselves. Honestly, a dash is only like $80 at the local junk yard and to get one shipped and repaired it's going to be well over $100. Send it to people that are on the west coast, because minds are very interested!

The dash was basically used as a example of what can be done, Im not an idiot, I know people wont pay for the shipping of a dash out of a 240. There are people on here however, that are working on cars other than 240s. They may have really hard to find slightly damaged parts that need to be repaired, or they need to be re dyed to normal color again. If its really hard to get they just might be willing to ship a dash to be repaired. I dont know whats so hard about thinking outside the dash. Its not just limited to dash repair.

As of right now I only know whats used to fill the cracks in, if I can figure out the rest, I might consider a gentlemans agreement. Ill think about it and see what happens when the doors panels are repaired.

Don't try the classiczcar.com links because that site usually has issues. Just read from post 13 and on.

I've repainted my guitars before and filled light scratches and pick guard holes with balloon filler (got them from Hobby People) the hardener I used was crazy glue. I just dropped a drop and in and let it dry. Sand then paint.
The texture he used was probably regular texture. If you look at it closely, you see the repainted part is kinda speckled while the original dash has lines.

Well here goes.
Unfortunately you took the route of showing us the miracle of 240 dash repair and will not share HOW to do it. Then you say your uncle does this for a living and offer his service which means he would have to pay an advertising fee to offer his services on Zilvia.
So intern :lockd:
If you care to share with the rest of us on how this is done, and help the 240 community out tremendously, I will GLADLY open the thread back up. Hell I'd sticky this for a month. :) OR if your uncle wants to advertise on Zilvia please have him go here (http://www.zilvia.net/index.php?page=advertise) to find out more information.
