<img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wow.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':0'> never really pictured and FC with a V8, any FDs?
What are the numbers on those, and I take it they are quicker than V8 datsuns (lighter body)

must be quick as hell in the straights but too bad that motor just threw off the near perfect (or perfect) weight ratio into hell

hey baka sama, first off, N E R D is the shit, secondly, and no i am not hating i think everyone has their own opinions and the right to them, but doesn't that kinda defeat the purpose of the RX7? or the reason why mazda built it, not hating i emphasize this, also, the stuff looks nice, what made you wanna do it, and how much $$$ did it cost?

Wrong. Dead wrong. A small block V8 still sits entirely behind the centerline of the front wheels. It also puts most of its mass (block and crank) lower in the chassis than the rotary, and mounts the transmission lower in the chassis than the rotary. Put the battery behind the passenger seat and the result is a still perfectly balanced car with a CRAPLOAD more reliable power.
I've learned a lot about the V8 RX7 swap from one of the pioneers, the builder of this car:
http://www.v8rx7.com/page4.5.jpg
I was skeptical at first too, but he autocrossed it (it's sitting on R compound tires in that picture) and drove the heck out of it and it was nothing short of amazing all the way. He originally raced the car with the rotary until it failed. The cost of the V8 swap came out less than the cost of even a stock rotary rebuild, much less a rotary making as much power as the V8! It made simple economic sense.
Who cares what Mazda intended for it, if it goes fast?

There are a couple V8 FDs, it's less popular though because FDs are still pretty expensive and they already come with a good amount of power. There's one I know of that has a crazy all aluminum Chevy engine shooting for well over 600hp. The engine is a real work of art, real pretty.
Most of the swaps I've seen were FCs and 1st gens though. FCs and 1st gens with good bodies and blown motors are a dime a dozen.
Do it right and the end result starting with a non-turbo coupe will weigh about 2700lb with perfect f/r balance.

oh sorry about that..guess i juss assumed that moving from a 1.3L to a wat's v8? 5.0? (sorry dunno my domestics) it would throw off the weight ratio but thanx for sharing the wealth =)

That is some awsome shit Baka!! those things most rock, I can only hope to be able to pull together my resources well enough to pull that off. Your friend must be one happening individual. Those pics are really great thanks again.

Lets see if I can answer all these quetions...
KiDyNomiTe- No, no V8 FD's showed up. Although I do know someone with nice FD but hes all into rotary and would'nt think of swaping.
azian21485- AKADriver is right. Just cause its a V8 swap doesnt mean it cant handle as well. I wonder If anyone ever drifted a V8 FC <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sly.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':sly:'>
Red89AllStockBiotch- Yes N.E.R.D is the shit, and so is Linkin Park. Yes I wish the V8 was mine, but as I said before The convertible one on the right belongs to my brother. Hes in the 3rd pic. The total cost came to about 4k-5k. My bro. keeps pushing me to get one but I havent decided yet.

Those are some sweet looking fcs. I have a friend who just got an 88 turbo II, just like the one at the meet, rotary though. What do those V8's sound like?

The RE also sits completly behind the front wheels. As far as you saying that the V8 puts "most of its mass (block and crank) lower in the chassis than the rotary, and mounts the transmission lower in the chassis than the rotary" I dont understand how thats possible considering the top of the RE is lined up flush with the top of the tranny. The engine sits right in front of the tranny, so how can it be mounted lower?

The transmission sits lower with the V8. Remember - V design - the crank is at the bottom. In the rotary the eccentric shaft is right down the center.
The rotary itself, as in the rotors and housings, is light. But, then add an intake manifold. An exhaust manifold with a turbo. an intercooler. Where does all this go on the Turbo II? On the top of the engine. More weight up high...

Yes, but like I said earlier, the housings line up flush with the top of the tranny, so how would you situate the tranny any lower?
You have your description of the RE backwards. The housings are actually quite heavy. The intake manifold is very light. And, in my case,I dont have to worry about the added weight gains of the turbo <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'>

That statement just strngthens the fact that the rotary engine sits lower..............
