View Full Version : GI: UR Accessory Pulleys *Projected Pricing*

I've been a fan of UR and their products for quite a while now, and that didn't change when I started my first S-Chassis project. UR used to make a full Underdrive pulley set for the KA24DE, and I've been drooling over it ever since I read this article. (http://www.importtuner.com/powerpages/0210it_1996_nissan_240sx_se/index.html) I saw an unopened set sale for $300 recently on the forums, and I'm kicking myself for missing out on them. I'm tired of waiting on the parts to show up for sale, so I am working with UR now on the possibility of another production run. The minimum number of sets they will do a run for is 40. I'd keep a set for myself, and sell the rest here and on various other forums.

The full set (including crank pulley) yields 12whp.
Since the crank pulleys are widely available, I'd be getting only the accessory pulleys. Here is a pic of the full set submitted by Super240sx7185.

Pricing is looking okay on the individual level, but astronomical for me. I'm still working out all of the details, such as finish. Because of the enormous initial cost, there is utterly no way I can afford to do this like I had planned. If it happens, it'll have to be some form of a group buy.

NOTE: This is not a group buy thread, as I haven't decided how exactly to go forward with this. I will be contacting the Zilvia administration to make sure I have permission before I do any sort of group buy.

I can do this one pulley at a time, or sell the full sets. If I did it one at a time, it would be more expensive for all of us due to shipping and a huge pain in my butt. BUT it might be more feasible because of the lower initial cost.

Here's the PROJECTED pricing. This is not final, but should be close within $10 or so.

All three pulleys together: $230 Shipped

If I do them individually:

Alternator:$70
Power Steering: $90
Water Pump: $90

So what do you guys think? Who's still with me?

This thread seemed to be generating more interest in the classifieds forum.

if they were available in pink, green, purple, aqua, or something like that i'd be down. chrome/polished is too bland i think.

You can do the anodizing yourself with some battery acid, fabric dye, and sealer. Just putting that out there. I did a little research, and alot of paintball guys do it to their aluminum paintball guns, apparrently.

Is there no one else? There were several others who posted that they would be interested in the other forum.

There won't be any custom stuff for this order. The minimum order for any single part is 40 pulleys. You'd have to switch back, unless the pulley is a direct replacement.

Thanks for the interest guys! This really is going to be a sweet deal if we can get enough people on board to get a group buy going. As soon as there are 20 "I'm in" replies to this thread and on other forums, I will start the group buy. Also, just a side note, I just found out that it costs me $20 per month for running a group buy on these forums, so that will be reflected in the final figure.

Help me spread the word to your KA buddies so we can make this happen.

Between here and KA-T.org, we're at 14 interested people.

YES! anodizing is extremely easy! an ever easier (and sometimes safer) route is powder coating. this is easily done by anyone who can color inside the lines.

dont let the fininsh be the only thing that keeps you from buying these people.

Crank pulley is the only one that they still make, many stores carry it, so it should be easy to find. They only stopped making the accessory pullies for the KA, I guess not enough people was buying them.

Yeah, you can get the crank pulley for under $200. Expensive relative to these three, but if you look at it in the picture, it's much bigger. They're also widely available used if you want to save some $$$. The purpose of this group buy is to get our hands on the accessory pulleys that are no longer in production.

This is also a great option for those who are afraid of the whole harmonic dampening issue. I'm not gonna go there.

any single cam love?

That's a good question. Someone want to chime in on this? The accessory pulleys may work on the E or the DE. I honestly have no clue.

For you guys that are serious about this, how soon could you have the cash ready to go? If I give it, say, two weeks, could you have it ready in that time frame?

It will work something like this. I will open the group buy officially on X date. We'll give the group buy Y days to reach 40 people. If it reaches 40 people, we will give Z days to send your money in. When the money is in, I will place the order with UR. How soon should X be, how long should Y and Z be?

Here's what I'm thinking: Start the buy on Monday, and give it two weeks to reach the required number of people. After it reaches the required number of people, we'll give one week to get me your money, or your spot is up for grabs. This could very well be the only time we ever get a chance at these parts again, so I think it will fill up. We're already over 20 people in the few days I have been discussing this. :rawk:

Sounds like this could be solid.
Hopefully we have some serious cats who want to make this happen.

i have the money now, so whenever this happens Im in. I have a question though, will you be fronting the money to buy from UR? Or will you wait till you get all the money from the GB, then buy them?

Aaronsx
04-18-2008, 10:16 AM
I was planning to front the money myself, but because of the high minimum => astronomical initial cost, I'm not going to be able to do that. I'll be happy to give you whatever information you like to make sure you feel comfortable with the group buy situation, though.

im in, one thing are we buying the whole set or individual pulleys per person.
when are we starting this group buy

Aaronsx
04-19-2008, 07:14 PM
I'm going to pay the fee and start the group buy on Monday. We'll give it two weeks and see if we can get to the 40 committed people it requires. I don't think it'll be a problem, based on the interest this thread has generated. After that, those people will have seven days to send in their cash. If they miss the deadline, I'll see if I can get someone with cash in hand to take their place, but I won't let that go on for more than a week. It's gonna be reasonably quick, and very professional.

As to the question about individual pulleys, I'm going to set it up for the full sets. I know there are a few who already have this and that pulley, but if I sell them individually, I'm afraid I'm going to end up having to eat the cost of miscellaneous pulleys at the end. Since I'm not making any money off this deal, I'm not going to risk that. Besides, these are fairly rare/hard to get parts, since they're out of production. Who would want some other pulley on their car anyway?

Those look like they would fit on an RB. Any idea if they actually do?

Not according to UR, but they may have just not done the research. I have no personal experience to offer on the subject, but some other KA guru might.

its better if now you just do a group buy, then when you hit the minimum number, you have them made, otherwise just refund the money.

Collecting the money first then paying...40 sets.

That's alot of money.

What type of sales credibility and reputation do you have?

What's your name?

What phone number can people contact you at?

What other forums are you on?

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

I'm going to copy this post to the main group buy thread so that I can answer this question there. Please ask all further questions in the group buy thread.
