View Full Version : Annoying GReddy Type-S BOV Noise

Anyone else experience this?
About 2 seconds after my BOV blows off, there's an annoying whistle (sounds like brake squeal) that sustains and dies out after a second or two.
It's not the actual blow off sound that I'm talking about, it's after the fact, sounds like some sort of after-leak dealy thing...
This happened with two different GReddy Type-S BOV's that I installed on my car, so I know the problem isn't just with mine. I never really cared about it since I never heard my BOV. But now that I replaced my stock rubber intake, the BOV is louder and it's really annoying.
I'm planning on replacing one of the springs with something stiffer, hopefully that might help?

Its happened in my GSX when I had the GReddy RS BOV, and its also happened to everyone that I know that has the GReddy BOVs, switch to tial or forge.
I believe that it was compressor surge... someone correct me if I'm wrong. I've been out of a turbo car for so long now.

i had that too. you have to adjust the screw at the top. does your idle kinda drop also? i adjusted mine and it went away.

i had to tighten mine nearly all the way down to get rid of that noise. sucks though, cause now it only blows off under hard accel. surges the rest of the time.

i have that BOV, and i dont really hear the squeal but my idle does drop and its annoing...how do i fix that ? by just adjusting my BOV??

my greddy type s bov does that too. sounds normal to me. kind of getting annoying though. everytime i stop at the red light. my car idle drops down to 500 or least. but i never stall....i heard if you recir your bov into your intake pipe. after the MAF. it'll solve those idle drops, running rich, and those nice back-fire! :P

recirculating your BOV will make your car feel "right" and it won't drop rpm/die on you at stops. i've had mine recirculated for years and am very pro-recirc.

Sounds like a leak...Ive seen a Type-R leak and whistle. You ever been congested and tried to breath, your nose starts whistling. Thats what it fucking sounded like.

it's not compressor surge, pretty sure it's not a leak either.
I have it too, and everyone else I know who runs Greddy BOV's.

i'm pretty sure that's just the sound of the type R. every youtube vid i've seen of that BOV would make a decent sound followed by a couple second whistling noise. It kinda sounds like those cheesy BOV sounds in F&F #1.

That's just how Type S sounds...my buddy has one, and it works fine, that's just how they sound.

never noticed it with my rs, but definitely have drop in idle and backfiring, both of which i have gotten used to.

very easy to fix your drop in idle when coming to a stop or even stop your backfiring due to running rich after blow-off, Recirculate the bov back into the intake (on the suction side of the turbo) after the mafs or the best way is to put your mafs on the cold pipe as close to the throttle as possible. this way your engine gets the proper amount of metered air, car will run much better this way. Be sure to put the mafs a good ways after bov so it meters properly, you don't want turbulent air. Best setup would be mafs on cold pipe before throttle and bov on hot pipe. But for gods sake run a z32 mafs if you put it near the throttle, it doesn't make much sense to put a sr mafs in front of the throttle as it is real restrictive!

Or you can get the anti stall like I did:

fromxtor, how does that work? I use tial everything, not big on greddy never seen that adapter what does it do?

Im guessing it acts as a second valve to slow down the air flow on the way out. Gives the ECU enough time to recover when it goes rich...

You sir are correct. blow through maf setups are way more efficient than Draw through and will get rid of all the problems that come with running a drawthrough setup without recirc. I am doing that with My Q45 Maf on my RB. Ill prolly put it about 7 inches or so from my Greddy intake manifold, and my BOV (Tial FTW) on the hot pipe near the intercooler.

Q45 mafs even better, good setup

yea Im using a blow through, Ray this is how it works: Machined aluminum threaded GReddy Type RS anti-stall module allows for more stable running engine when RS blow-off valve is vented to atmosphere. Opens during boost and seals at idle and low throttle driving.

I take it that it works, and you have had good luck with it? I should tell my buddy bout this he doesn't want to move his maf, he would have to cut his shiny coldpipe lol, he is funny like that
