Well folks on my way to work yesterday my beloved s14 slipped on the highway and went sideways through a rack of bushes. No one else was involved and nothing happend to me. However my poor baby is gonna need a lot of work.
Here's the damage as best as I can describe it.
Passanger door has a HUGE dent, fortunatly I have access to another one.
Passanger fender's banged up. Don't have any leads on another fender yet.
Lower apron under the door is banged up. I'm probably gonna have to drill, pull and bondo that sucker.
Front bumper with lights are gone: I wish I had full converage that woulda been an s15 right there.
Intercooler is dented to all hell: I don't know if it'll still hold boost but I know I'm gonna need another one.
Here's my question.
It was a very rainy morning and as soon as I got my car on the highway I could tell things were gonna go downhill. The car would hydroplane a little in the rain and I would always have to correct however yesterday morning was especially bad. I figure it's because of my tires. That would be the deciding factor in rain traction correct? What could I do to improve it? I do not want something like this to happen again.
Thanks for reading guys
Jed
Who knows this might be a blessing in disquise. I've been looking for a reason to put some sideskirts and get a fresh coat of paint on my car.

No way, dude!!! That sucks fat donkey ballz!!! <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/unhappy.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':unhappy:'> <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/cry.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''>
Insurance is a bitch, ain't it? You get raped paying for it, so you carry less, but then when you need it, they don't pay for shit. Fockers.
About rain traction...it's ALL about tires. You need good ones. I imagine yours are quite bald with all those burnout pics I see <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/laugh.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''> Get some new shit and you should be fine.
I'm sorry this had to happen, Jed...but at least you're looking at it from the bright side.

damn Jed I'm sorry to hear that....I wonder how bad your car looks. <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt='???'>
Yea insurance is a bitch and the 240 is not exactly a cheap car...learned that from my experience. Is your car still driveable?
If it was the driver side instead of the passenger side you could have my fender. I dunno if you want my bumper its scuffed up a bit.
I know how it is driving on the highway in the rain, yesturday my car would sway left or right if I hit a pool of water. Everytime it rains I drive like a little bitch....BTW were you driving on bald tires?.......new tires can't hurt......thats one thing I need to do.

everytime it rains i say a prayer and go into super concetration...
I have a feeling one day i'll drop a post saying the same thing, or worse...
i know my tires are jacked, i need new ones, but don't have the $$$, but i think it would be worth the investment to avoid rain-dangers...
i'm happy your not dead, and didn't hit someone else.

That sucks. Good Luck with the repairs.
Tires are definitely the most important aspect of traction in the rain. what kind of tires were you (are you) on? It's seriously no fun to drive in the rain with most summer compound tires... especially something like Falken Azenis.
I'm glad you didn't hit anyone else and weren't injured, though! Good luck with the repairs.

Thanks guys. I had whatever good year tires were on the 300z wheels I got. Don't know though. Unfortunatly since I drift a lot my tires go bald pretty quick. I was in need of new rears anyways and had planed to get them in the next week or so turns out I was a little to late <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/laugh.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''>
Good news is that I have a plan to fix everything hopefully be this weekend. Cheapest option is to paint the car flat black, which is something I was considering anyways.
Thanks!
Jed

I love driving in the rain with my azenis <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>
Pretty uncomfortable at 65mph+ in heavy rain and very bad hitting the mini puddles in the road but for general rain driving they are pretty great...way better than my, umm whatever I had on there before with lots of tread.
Just FYI <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'> they aren't as bad in rain as everybody says.
I'm sorry to hear about the car <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':('>
You know I have pages dedicated to showing off wrecked cars...send me pics if you want a spot <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':p'>

With my poor skills i know i can't control my silvia in the rain, unless i have 1.5way LSD and know how to drift, and with good tires...

1st thing i did when i got my 240 was lose control of it in the rain and practice regaining control... now i can drive w/ confidence....
i still remember the horror of fishtailing my friends S12 on accident...
