Finally got a new bike

Well after 2 years of trying to get a new bike, I finally succeeded today, and purchased the bike I have always wanted.

2005 R1 Raven
4600 miles
Perfect condition.


Man, It feels so nice having a bike that people don't laugh at. Man am I excited. :thumbup

Thank you everyone. Dont worry about my riding. I have been riding since I was 17 on the street. I have had 8 different street bikes and have over 150k miles between them. I have not gone down, yet. I always try to ride at the safest level possible, and after 9 track days on bikes I think I have done ok.


Back to the bike.

The guy was asking $8600, which would have been just an "ok" deal. I talked him down to 7700. lol.

Yea. I had a 2002 r6. It actually had enough low end power to take off from a stop without fear of stalling. It also could wheelie in 1st and 2nd.

I would suggest it as a starter bike. Handled great too.

too be honest. My old beater 929rr that I sold yesterday was much faster. It had soo much tq with the gearing and mods that I could rarely ever floor it. The bike would go up instead of forward.

The r1 has really smooth refined power delivery. it doesn't come on as strong, but builds up to it better.

Kind of like comparing traction between a big turbo low compression sr in the rain, and a ls1 in a s14.

The sr is only good for wasting tires
while the ls1 is good for whatever you put it up too.

An r6 was more of a bike than i was looking at, even though i am a big yamaha fan. I was looking at late 90's cbr's or gsxr's (600)...

Congrats Luke! I told you I had a '00 cbr929 too, right? I had Erion/2bros (back when they were the same company) exhaust/cams/+2,-1 gearing, I know what you mean about the short swingarm 929 just comin right up :) There's no substitute for another 20whp though ~ all the new literbikes (Even with their big swingarms/anti-wheelie geometry) will wheelie 1st/2nd/3rd, and sometimes 4th if you click it at about 90mph.

The R1 is a fantastic bike, and if I'd have never ridden my '04 GSXR1k, I probably would have gotten one. The GSXR motor is just, hands down, better, and the ergos on the 05+ GSXR are fantastic... but the R1 looks tits, and I've ridden one at about 90% speed on the track, and they respond VERY well to suspension mods and slicks.

Definitely a nice find, although I'd have a hard time paying $7.7k for a 3 yr old bike - but that's because I never buy anything in 'brand new' condition :)

Jordan. Yea I was interested in the gsxr and know that they have more usable power especially down low. I just couldn't get over how the r1 looked/felt. I just rode hwy 9 today and all I can say is WOW. This bike makes my 929 feel like garbage.

I will be setting up the suspension this weekend, and changing the gearing hopefully next month. :-)
