im not really new hear, i just always read posts. anyways, situation: i have a 95 240sx a shit load of mods such as s15 sr20, full exhaust (engine back), 6 gauges, fmic, coilovers, r32 brakes, avcr-r, safcII, clutch, 2 way diff, auto to man swap, and lots more. so i just got my car out of the shop from getting the swap done, and the third time i drive it, the shit catches on fire! no i am not a dumbass, i know these cars. the engine temp was fine but the fire started right above the turbo . i noticed some sparks in the rear view, pulled over and it was a small fire along the fire wall near the bmc. the fire co. took like 10 minutes to come and by then it was huge. total loss the thing is i just got the car out of the shop from having all this work done. i am so pissed. 7 weeks and thousands of dollars down the drain. i wanna go at the shop because of faulty work but they say once the engine leaves the premasise they are not responsable. i dont really know what to do. i need advice.

I would have all of your receipts in line and contact your insurance company. Explain to them what happened and also make sure to get copies of both the police and fire department reports. Organization is key here. You may also want to speak to a few lawyers. I think consolations are free for the most part. Goodluck!

i doubt your insurance company will/can do much. from their stand point you swapped in an "illegal" motor. Going after the shop that did the work may be your only option.

did you sign anything for the shop that shows the shop is not responsible after your car leaves the shop?
Consult a lawyer is really good idea. GL

Here - At or in this place.
Spelling?! responsible, and premises
I'd talk to the shop you got the work done, did you sign anything that stated they are not responsible after the car leaves the shop? tell them due to faulty work, there was a fire in your engine bay, tell them you are simply asking to fix their mistake, and you are willing to forget that you could of been injured by their faulty work.
Id hire some local thugs to go beat the shit of the shop guys untill they pay up or just beat the crap out of them for fun lol But good luck, man that sucks

Moral of the story. Always carry a fire extinguisher in a highly modified car.
I learned that after my friends car caught on fire last summer.

If you do sue, you can't get $ on the parts that are coming. You can't get parts that you have in Japan, because they are not damage and they are in your posession.
Even though you say $15k investment, how much parts you have coming in Japan should be taken out.
Look at the receipt you sign from the shop. Did they do the motor swap? If so, they should have something to cover them like a taillight warrenty or Mileage or something.
Taillight warrenty - the minute you leave and I can't see your taillights, warrenty over.

FUCK EM.....how long it was done from the shop? any installation warranty? if its less than 30 days or depends on their installation warranty you can come back. and check your paperworks see if theres any.
thats the reason i hate sending it to the shops when something goes wrong you cant come back to them giving u all tons of shit.

definitely go with a lawyer, hopefully they can do something for you. Some lawyers have free 15-30min consultations. Just something to look into. Sorry to hear about the car. that sucks. Don't know what they would say about you swapping in an illegal motor.

ok i talked to a lawyer today, gave them all the information, and they will tell me if i have a possible lawsuit tomorrow. All of those parts were already installed.
i dont wanna sue the people but they jacked my swap up. Anyway so the warranty information is only referring to the actual equipment, not to the workmanship. So that is were I think I have a case. I am going to the tow yard to release the vehicle to my insurance tomorrow. If I can I will take pics of it after the fire
