are teh dummy lights preset to certain temps? is it programmable? Stock cluster plug works for it?

Pretty sweet idea.

04-09-2008, 02:08 PM
If the hole cut-out for the display was cleaned up, I'd definately take one!

Also, how does it light up at night? Same?

johngriff
04-09-2008, 02:09 PM
Yes it fits into the stock cluster plug.

The red led over heat light is user programmable to whatever temp you desire.

The display is backlit when you click the lights to on.

I like, I'd probably get one for S14. I'm all about keeping the interior as simple and clean as possible, both for simplicity and to reduce the risk of theft.

Do you have any better pics? To me it just looks like you photoshopped in a digital readout, lol.

yeah im with you on this one. I'd like to see the final install to see how clean it is.

This is a great idea though, I was thinking about getting a yashio factory okachan unit, but this would free up some clutter :)

Whats the response time on the display?

haha jk,

Looks like a good deal, Id pick one up If I had a s13.

johngriff
04-09-2008, 03:37 PM
HUD will NOT happen. The display for temp is all wrong on the cluster already, also the production numbers on the HUD are too low to justify making them.

Response time is quick, 30 readings per second, with a 2 second averaging calculation.

Yes, the final version will be much cleaner, the buttons will be under the LCD display.

Rob's S14
04-09-2008, 03:41 PM
That looks pretty tight. Seamless too, looks like it belongs there. One quick question though, do they come with the logo or is that just so everyone knows it's yours?

johngriff
04-09-2008, 03:42 PM
Right now the logo is going to be attached with a sticker, later it will be screen printed. That is all volume Dependant.

DreamN
04-09-2008, 03:46 PM
can't wait for the production version and it's nice and cleaned up. This will definitely help to stop the clutter on a lot of ppl's cars. Now I'd probably need to buy an oil temp and oil pressure gauge.

04-09-2008, 03:50 PM
I like the idea of an actual number vs. dash lines. I would like to keep it as clean as possible so can the logo be removed easily? I see you already have a price on your site. Are these already for sale?

I want a s14 as well, it would be cool to tie this in with some kind of a temp fan controller so we can trigger random stuff at certain temps.

04-09-2008, 04:30 PM
fyi, i'll be purchasing one as soon as i get back in cali.
just out of curiousity, does anyone know what optimal operating temp range should be for sr20? and what should i set the warning light at?

In Fahrenheit, normal should be around 170-190ish, start to get worried at around 205-210ish. Someone chime in on Celsius. I'm too lazy to convert.

johngriff
04-09-2008, 04:42 PM
And the scary thing is the stock gauge wont start to move past the middle until 220.

Which is why this is a necessity.

I will do my best on shipping to england, maybe you can pickup a demo I send to my dad in old harlow?

Rittmeister
04-09-2008, 05:00 PM
What sensor does this thing take readings from? It's a great idea but can you tell us a bit more about how it works? I thought the stock gauge read from that one-wire sensor on the head, which is why it's lousy. Does your gauge somehow read from the same sensor (but more accurately) or from the sensor for the ECU, or what?

Very curious.

johngriff
04-09-2008, 06:06 PM
The DTIG no longer relies on the factory thermoswitch. It views the temperature the same as the Engine Control unit, making the accuracy very high.

Rittmeister
04-09-2008, 06:17 PM
OK, that's what my Pivot fan controller does.

Next question - is there splicing involved in the installation of your unit? Or does the ECU temp signal somehow get routed to the gauge cluster, even though it's not displayed?

Not trying to be argumentative, I'm quite interested in your gauge, but again I'm curious.

Jza
04-09-2008, 08:09 PM
I am interested. But, please take my concern into consideration.

1) Please keep the logo detachable or a sticker to us if we want to have it. Cali drivers worries about getting pull over. ( I am one of them).

2) Can you have the programmable control somewhere so that we don't have to take off the cluster everytime we change the setting?

3) I'd assume you have all the info for all 240sx OEM engine's temp. so that we would know what is the normal temp. and over heat temp. Most of the analog readers do NOT know the digital reading. If not, please advice.

Please keep us update when you have the final production pic. I'll definitely going to get one if the above conern is not a problem. Good work!!

04-09-2008, 09:20 PM

04-09-2008, 10:48 PM
I can see wanting to get your name out there, but I think this product alone will do that, and the little logo is unnecessary. Or just keep it a removable sticker- this is something that helps decrease clutter. The kind of person that wants this probably doesn't want to add clutter in the form of a logo that doesn't match anything else in the cluster at all. Considering the number of replies in this thread already, I don't think the advertisement from the logo is necessary. Good products sell themselves.

I apologize if this has already been coverd, but where exactly is this getting its signal from?

IIRC the factory sender is a POS and not to be trusted. Not to mention, if you get an air pocket or low enough on fluid it wont read the temp because it must have constant contact with h20?

Please do explain. You seem to be on to something but i'd like to here the above concerns addressed. Also, please keep the logo removable.

dude, you read the thread? Seriously. Everything you just asked has been addressed.

Looks like a rad product, might pick one up for the daily, I have a PFC with commander and a water gauge in the coupe, lol, makes it kinda pointless.

But I would throw one in my hatch for sure, great idea.

THERE!! msglngthmf

Thanks! But it still seems like its pulls from the factory sending unit which is notorious for being shitty. I understand that this will give an exact and accurate reading of what the SENSOR reads, but that doesn't do much if the sender itself sucks. Or is there another sensor or am i just confused as usual?

LOL.

krazydriver
04-10-2008, 08:26 AM
^ there are 2 temp sensors.
Factory Gauge temp sensor sucks
Factory ECU temp sensor is right next to it and works great.
What they're doing is splicing into the ECU temp, so it's a decent sender running into a MUCH nicer gauge.

Great product here, if i hadn't picked up a water temp gauge to deal with the inaccuracies of the factory one.... i would have gotten one of these.

NM - Looks like they're taking pre-orders.

My suggestion = Make the Logo removable

Scott

240trainee
04-10-2008, 11:55 AM
yea, or make the logo gray outline or something, a little more subtle.

I dunno, if the customer hates the logo they can paint over it.

I personally don't give a shit, I'll go the laziest route possible.

The cutout for the digital readout looks crooked. I would buy one if it looked a little cleaner.

Edit: Didn't see your post on saying the final version will be much cleaner. When you get pics of the final version I will most likely purchase one.

Fuel gauge plus oil pressure gauge would be pimp. It seems the fuel gauge is never really that accurate.
