4 point racing harnesses

hey what's up everyone...this might sound a little stupid but it's been bugging me and i need to ask someone...if i get 4 point racing harnesses put into my 1990 nissan 240sx hatchback, will i still be able to use my rear seats...like i have seen other 240's with harnesses but they removed their rear seats...has anyone of you guys seen a 240 with a racing harness that still has their rear seats...thanks for any responses...

If your thinking about getting a racing harness you should also look into getting a rollcage to go with it but in any case you will not be able to use your back seats.

check out restraints and look for schroth harnesses.
those when installed have a buckle on the rear y strap that you can unclamp to allow people in the back seat but geez man
its a 240 can anyone really even fit back there?

I've got a 6 point in my fastback that allows me to keep the rear seats, though it's only for the track so no one is back there when I'm wearing my harness anyway. &nbsp;It also required the removal of the stock rear seatbelts.

Basically, similar to the integra install, I fabricated a bar that spans between the rear seatbelt hangers on the c-pillars. &nbsp;The belts are pretty long though and as soon as I can buy a real roll bar I'll be installing one. &nbsp;The lap belts are pretty easy in that the mounting hardware can be attached directly to the stock mounting points. &nbsp;In fact I retain all the stock belts when driving around town and leave the lap belt wrapped around the driver's seat with the shoulder harnesses in the trunk and the sub belt removed.

I hope you plan on installing a matching roll bar/cage. Also please remember that harnesses with out proper roll protection are very dangerious. The harness should mount to the rear crossbar. I you can have the cage fabricatd so that the rear cross bar can be removed for the street (so that you can still use yor rear seat).

I'm suspicious of anyone looking for a harness w/o a bar. Even more suspicious when it is a 4-point harness. Basically, it better be for autox ONLY.

4-pt's are made for autox where you are unlikely to have a highspeed front impact collision. W/o the anti-submarine belt, you are guaranteeing massive injuries should you be in such an incident. Really ugly things happen when your top half is strapped in super tight and the bottom is free to move.

Roll bars should be considered a must for harnesses as well, unless you are ONLY using them for autox. Again, autox is unlikely to generate roll over speeds (although it happens several times a year). W/o a roll bar, you are strapped into the seat with your head as the highest point. It becomes the fulcrum as the car goes upside down. Ouch.

Any harness is illegal to use on the streets in most states b/c it restricts you ability to look around and see traffic.
