I know ABS and Hicas was optional but what about LSD's was that an option too or pretty much standard feature for an SE s14?

I thought it was standard but when i bought mine i found out it was in fact an open diff. The kid could have just blown the VLSD one and swapped in this one but im not 100% sure if they are standard

rule of thumb, is you have abs, you have an lsd

bigOdom1

correct but there are exceptions to that rule

If it has HICAS, which came with ABS, which came with VLSD, then you have a VLSD. I'm pretty sure it was an option on S14 SEs... I'm not 100% on that one. As for S13s, only HICAS models or ABS models came with VLSD.

not always true. the car could have been ordered with a vlsd without abs. i have owned two se's and they both dont have vlsd's. If they do they are blown or im just dumb and cant fill um.

ABS and VLSD are one single option on US cars, both base and SE. You can't have one without the other, period. 1995 models had it as a separate option for like $1099, 1996 models it came with a package that also added leather interior and the keyless entry/alarm system, called the 'Leather and Security Package', for about $2199 IIRC. All this can be found in the dealer brochures online.

And HICAS was only offered in Japan on the S14.

easiest way to check if you have a VLSD is to check the MODEL ID number that's stamped on the firewall in the engine bay.

here's the info:

yea but he could have an open diff and still do two wheel burnouts going straight. I have a 98 se without abs and it has an open diff.... so i think it was an option

Yeah, I leave two marks sometimes with my open diff.

Just jack up the rear end of your car and leave it in gear then spin one wheel and see if the other wheel spins in the opposite direction. If it does then you have a VLSD.

that test doesn't really work for vlsd's anyway

vlsd have an orange sticker on them that say VLSD or they should at least

BattleRoyale
04-02-2008, 05:22 PM
or get under the rear rack and check under all the grime for the little orange sticker that says vlsd on it

wouldn't matter anyways. old vlsd is basically the same as an open.

Which has absolutely nothing to do with this thread. S13s had completely different options, especially the SE models. SEs could come stripped with no air, power windows, locks, anything but still have the alloy wheels, front lip, and rear spoiler.

HICAS wasn't even offered until 1991 either.

Does your VLSD have an ABS sensor on the snout?

EDacIouSX

you could also read the vin # on the car, that'll tell you if you have abs and/or lsd. also, you could just look in your fuse box and if you have a fuse for ABS then you have abs.... unless someone put abs there, also theres an extra box in the engine bay. all for s14s of course...

i also think, but am not sure, that vlsd s14 pumpkins have an orange sticker on the bottom of it...

maybe in the US.. but here in Canada every single 240 that's 91+ has a VLSD no matter what the options on it were..

here's the info:
THE GARAGE GUIDES - 240SX VIN / Model ID Decoding (http://garage.projectraine.com/content_guides/240_vinmid/vinmid01.html)

This is the best and easiest way to tell unless you suspect your diff have been changed out.

Sometimes I wonder what people are searching for when they post in threads like this. You figured, people are looking for answers and would have questions instead of putting in random quips just for the hell of it.
