255 is hardly a stretch on a 10j

Don't even worry about it, a monkey could mount that.

215 or 225 would be a stretch but hardly a challenge

205 would be a crazy stretch that would take some skills

i think you guys are mistaking mounting and airing up. MOUNTING stretched tires is real easy. i do them w/o any bars. now airing up is the hard part. it all depends on the drop center on the wheel and how easy the tire airs up. the federals air up real easy b/c of the soft sidewalls

I posted a video in the wheel stretch thread. You can use starter fluid and a flame and blow the tire up to mount and seat. Go search

i did that once while the wheel was still on the car, the fuckin flames shot out and burned the shit out of my hand :keke:

oh yea, and for all the math wizzes out there, a 255 is technically WIDER than 10"...10.03" actually

Stretched? not quite :loco:

255 is simple, should not require much effort. Once you hit 225 thats where problems may occur, depending on the drop center.

Also a big thing is what is this going on? An 18 or 17, and what profile tire. 255/35 on a cold day, reverse mount with no tire bead on the wheel, and the tire is stiff, then maybe then, it might require a little wiggling of the tire...

If it doesnt go on, just listen for where the air escapes, and push the tire at that point, it should close and seal then pop on.

Yea, seating the bead is the easy part if you DIY.

The hard part is getting the tire on, imo.

255 will be no issue man..dont worry.

True...a 255 normally uses a 8-9.5" wheel. 10 is not a problem, if anything it'd give you a pretty square sidewall.

for those of you mounting your own tires... do you balance them yourself too? if so how?

are dismounts possible too?

SimpleSexy180
04-01-2008, 03:13 PM
usually when your doing your own.. your just using them to burn up tire...so balancing isnt all too important.

helped a friend once stretch rt615's 235? i think on a 12 wide wheel... used two rachet straps and a larger air compressor on full bore 180+ psi

that was fun... but 255 on a 10 is cake walk , had that on my old bullet wheels... im running 275s on a 18x9.5 reverse mount (SAR3) thats a pain to get on but thats straight sidewalls to

You could use that method where you put some gasoline on the sidewall and light it. It'll explode and the tire fills up. Look it up on youtube. I think it works something like that. Don't quote me though, I've never done it...

but a 10'' wheel is technically like an 11''

it's a slight stretch

275 / 25.4 = 10.8 = 10'' wheel

255 / 25.4 = 10.03 = 9'' wheel

255's wont be a problem at all, but if you do in fact need to stretch something, just use the bicycle tube method. shit works like a dream.

Mr. Jesse

That is frickin sick. I wish we used that technique to mount shit at discount.

Ps. Cheetah's are good for shooting things

yeah doing it yourself isn't that hard, just requires elbow greese.

I should try and find a guide i used a long while back on how to get a tire onto a rim with just a tire iron.

Haha that looks fun, now I want to try it, wonder if it'll work for bigger stretches.

so if you guys run a 235 on a 10 inch wheel...what would you run on a 12 inch wheel?

SimpleSexy180

i would still run a 235, haha.

i run 215 on a 9

ive mounted a few tires on wheels i didnt give a shit about with a crowbar and two prybars, but that guy with the tire spoons makes it look easy. i might have to get some of those for mounting dumpster spares.
