View Full Version : IC inlet/outlet size matters? (compared to ic piping)

Basically, my IC inlets/outlets are 2 inch and the piping is 2.5". The smaller diameter should increase the velocity of the air through those holes so hopefully it helps less lag but I don't know because I haven't had fluid dynamics yet but I think the force would decrease during the intercooler.

Just lend your thoughts to what I should do. Does anyone else run an IC with smaller inlets /outlets?
Only reason I run it is because the ic piping i bought was just to get my car running for awhile and now I'm looking for another IC and wanted to check before I increase the size of the inlets and outlets.

yes i do
it works fine
not sure about efficiency or if it would be better if matched

but i ran it no problems as such.

There should not be any problems from it.

The inlet into the IC where it steps down will reduce flow. I do not think you are making enough power where this would make any issues with your setup.

you're correct ka-t. I'm on stock boost for now.

I never saw anything wrong with it either, but it just bugs me now that I'm beginning to fine tune things I'd like to get one w/ correct size inlets and such.
thanks for the quick replies btw.
