View Full Version : Would you pay for NEW carpet?

I notice that no matter how badass and expensive 240's are, people RARELY replace the carpet. After replacing the shitty grey in my s14 with black i was amazed at how much better it made the interior.

My question is...

If a BRAND NEW carpet was available for your s14 or s13, would you pay 130 or 140 for it? In color of choice obviously (grey, black, brown, etc). NOT FITTED, but same size/pattern as stock.

I would be intrested in black. as long as its molded and shit. I do not think I will want to take on swapping carpet until I am giong to do my cage.

I have looked into this before:

Doesn't someone already sell fitted carpet for that amount? Pretty sure I've seen it on here before.

Yea, it's all around, usually requires some trimming, but it's fitted, and works pretty well, I need to pick some up for myself.

ya but they dont offer it for a s14 chassis. Only for the s13. :(
I am probably just going to buy some standard automotive carpet, and get a heat gun and glue. Unless i can find someone that custom molds it for the s14. But then again i am not to that point yet so i havent done too much research into it.

i'm thinking about getting new carpet soon.. mine is dirty as hell from oil accident(trying to recycle oil to kreagan) and my carpet had a hole in it when i bought it. A clean carpet does make a big difference and hide alot of other things(like a cracked dashed...or maybe not:wtc:)

i went the opposite route and gutted my car last time, This time around for the DD i would like to try to recondition the interior. I looked into that auto interior site last time i remember the had a mass backing option for added sound deadening. I might try it out in the future.

How much does carpet really weigh?

Last time I changed mine out to a newer black, I recall it being around 10-15 pounds. Worth it in the winter.

Though burning my foot near the gas pedal was fun for awhile. not.

I'd say I'd replace it, but there is stuff availible for the S14...

http://www.stockinteriors.com/AutoCarpet.asp?Itemid=5224&MakeId=20&ModelId=312

They even have floor mats if you really want em. From the reviews on zilvia, the fitment isn't too bad, you still wanna hit a couple spots with the heat gun, but overall, there's no real issues. But hey, there's $130, you pick your color.

Have their carpet in my S14 right now. Love every inch of it. Since my old carpet had holes in the heel spots and a 20oz. coffee in the passenger foot area, I couldn't get any worse.

Plus I like the fact that I had to tear down the interior to put it in correctly. I got to upgrade my antennae, run new amp wiring, clean up some rattles under the dash from worn cushions, etc.

It's alot of work but worth it for overall interior looks.

If anyone can source carpet for CDM or JDM S13s, I'm all for it.

I would be willing to spend more if it was fitted. I want to redo mine, but I'm gonna have it done right.

I got one from stock interiors, but fitment is a little poor... and the fact you have to cut it your self sucks.

Not really. For the S13 is actually better because you can opt to NOT cut out the holes for all the stock auto seatbelt crap.

As for the S14, the hardest part is the door sills, just because you can choose to swap over the stock carpet plastic lips to help keep the sills in place. I did, but you really dont have to. Once you get the carpet down the plastic sill holds that part in place.

My biggest piece of advice for install on either car, on the underside of the new carpet, remove ALL the foam padding that would rest on the tunnel. Cut it so that the padding only exists where you're feet would go. Trust me it makes fitment way easier, and you don't notice the difference as far as heat or noise. Plus that underpadding crap is so messy once you start cutting it.....blech.

Well when I install my cage I'm just gonna strip the carpet and toss it. Painted floors and mats for the DD is what I'll be going with.

i'd do it if my stuff was ripped, looked like shit, and my car was still more or less stock. otherwise i'd gut the interior

Dream240.. can you post pics of your carpet? Is it quieter or louder than it was before? Do you have the floor mats? Are they thick? I have a tendancy to really wear on floor mats. (like 6 months and i need new ones)

do you have pics of it though? like close up of the fabric? I ordered one for a s13 back a few years ago. Carpet looked nice, fit great, had the pad, but was cheap ass quality carpet.

Dream240 or Size, if i pay ya shippin costs could i have a piece of the carpet and foam backing to see quality? Like a piece ya had to cut off to get it to fit. I would give ya a extra $5 for your time..

heres some pics , i just peeled back a bit from the pedal area to show the insulation, i've had this carpet now from stockinteriors.com now for about 3 years now dailydriver, i keep my car clean, so your carpet will last as much as you keep it tidy.
hope these pics help

to install the moulded carpet , its best to remove center console and loosen lower dash anchors, remove seats and floor trim, and follow the instructions they provide for perfect fit. Ive seen it done nicely and also shitty.

ya know those insulator things that are a bitch to get off if you gut your interior? the ones everybody dry-ices.. do ya have to pull those off? i did that with that s13 back when, and it made the car more noisy in the cab. It annoy'd the fu*k out of me.

Shoot I wish you had told me two weeks ago. I just tossed the extra pieces from the trimming. Sorry. I'll get pics for you sometime tomorrow.
hey its all good. Didnt know. Ehh.. pics of install helps out alot though too. Size's pics look good, minus the doghair lookin stuff on carpet.
Would like to see some on a s14 though.

Dream240.. think this carpet could work for me when i gut out the dummy cat hump so i can lower the seat TONS more? if i glued the absolute FU*K out of it right there..

I dyed my shit, got new floor mats. Looks fucking awesome. I was about to pull the trigger on new carpet, then decided I could try to dye before I spend the money it couldn't hurt. Turned out great!
