View Full Version : Remove my 3" exhaust silencer , car stutters??

Just like the title says, I searched up and down on Zilvia and couldn't find anything.

I just installed a 3" cat back exhaust and had no problems for a good 2 months. Recently I decided to see what it'd be like with the silencer removed.

After removing it the car started stuttering, typically around 3000 rpm under load. With a steady foot on the throttle, the car will accelerate, stumble, accelerate, stumble until it reaches about 4000 rpm.

At some points it's really bad, to the point where the car is basically jerking back and forth as it puts along.

Anyone experience anything like this before? I assume it has something to do with the amount and velocity of air now traveling through the piping due to the lack of restriction. O2 sensor? EGR?

If it helps, I failed smog HARDCORE, like 3x the legal limits on most emissions.

Any help appreciated! TIA!

Sounds like the added exhaust flow possibly fouled your O2 sensor. Happened on my old car once. Repalced exhaust car ran like shiz. Replaced o2 sensor all was fine

no opposite, the lack of exhaust flow burnt out his 02 sensor.

exhaust temps are a biotch.

I don't believe in exhaust silencers just get a proper exhaust, loud does not mean power in most cases.

I unfortunately am an unemployed college student and had to buy the cheapest exhaust I could fine, the GodSpeed 3" catback!

It's not THAT loud for what it is! I swear!

Thanks for the help sirs. I basically need a new O2 sensor.
