well ive been following a t25 rebuild guide for a saab t25 and its similar up until this point. for reference here is the link to the guide which shows a snap ring holding in the journal bearing. This is the saab t25 & notice the snap ring compared to the standard ring on my t25

and here is my sr t25

its a ring for sure but not a snap ring. I can spin it fairly easily. I can see the bearing underneath but i cant get to it.

ok now onto the other side. I cant get the seal plate off. again here is a reference to the guide.

Ive been picking at it for a while. is there a special tool to lift the plate?

Thanks

Thats first ring is a like a "Spiral" Spring Ring, there should be a "Pointy" end to it find it and pry it up, dont worry about breaking it, the rebuild kit comes with a new one. This is the hardest part of building the turbo, Removal and installation of that ring

That cover just get a small screw driver and pry it out, it should come out fairly easy try turning it upside down and prying at it, there an O-Ring underneth it so that probably what causing it to stick

Unless you can balance this perfectly (mechanically) I wouldnt attempt this at home.

correct. BUT. its doable. im running a rebuilt turbo i did last fall... its held up..but i dont trust it to last forever. Just make good marks with a scrawl and do the best you can, usually it works out fine for awhile..it just wont last as long as if it were balanced. You can still rebuilt it yourself, and just send the center section out and have it balanced (usually its under 100 bucks).

Saying that, I sent out a spare t25 to be rebuilt by blaast performance up in canada. This spring I'll be replacing the t25 I rebuilt with the fully balanced one. Cost me 230 shipped back to my door.:D

well being local is socal is one thing. you guys get spoiled with stuff like that. but when you're in a crunch, sometimes not having it balanced is your only option. Its not the best thing to do...but if you're in a bind.

anyways, bringing it back to topic. To the OP, let us know how the turbo works out after you're done rebuilding it. :)

well i finally finished up and everything went smooth. the rebuild kit didnt come with the bearings i needed but the original bearings seemed to have no play what so ever. what was causing the shaft play was the collar that hold the thrust bearing. re used the original bearings and replaced all the seals and rings. shaft play is non existent as of now. and about balancing, I marked the wheels and shaft in multiple places upon removal so im going to take that chance. the only problem I had with the turbo was leaking oil seals so I will update this post when i run it. thanks for the help guys.
