My garage smells like gasoline...there is a 3ft X 2ft puddle of gas underneath the 240 after sitting for 12 hrs and my engine is running on 2 cylinders...whats wrong??

Ok, so for more the story....

I was at a drift event yesterday which was 4 hours away, got the car off the trailer, went to start it up and it ran fine for about 3 seconds then started running on 3 cylinders (stock KA). Had a few guys help us out and we eventually found that it was a bad injector.

Went to the auto parts store, the closest new injector was an hour away. So we took the messed up injector and sprayed some brake cleaner it it and tapped on it a few times then put it back in the car.

Started the car, ran on 3 cylinders for about 5 seconds then fired on all 4. Drifted the crap out of the car all day and it ran fine, went to lunch, came back and started it up. It was running on 2 cylinders, backfiring when you got on the throttle, and smelled horribly of gas. Took out the injector that was first giving us trouble and found that the lower o-ring was disintegrating. I don't know why the other cylinder was cutting out. Packed up and went home.

I come out this morning and there is a huge puddle of fuel under the car, and the engine is wet with gas all along the fuel rail side of the engine. I cannot see the source of the gas, but nothing is coming from where you remove the injectors from the engine...the leaking fuel is coming somewhere under that.

Any ideas?

Bad o-rings on injectors most likely. Replace all four if possible. If not, replace the two that are giving you trouble. Turn the car to the run position to get the pump going, and look for leaks.

where can I get just o-rings for the stock injectors?

Try an auto parts store. They may have an o-ring kit for them. Try the stealership. If nothing else, just replace the injectors. Chances are, if the o-rings are bad, the injectors are not far behind.

true, but at $100 an injector I could find another engine for that price...at least that was the pricing the auto parts store was giving me for injectors. Anywhere else that sells new KA injectors for cheaper than that?

100 bucks to fix ur problem correctly is worth it....100 bucks doesn't make or break anyone..

Autozone, Advance, O'Reilly, all should have a better price than that. When I worked at autozone, I replaced all four in my buddy's s13 for under $200 after 20% discount. Around $240 without (ironically)

Or just order new o-rings from your local dealer (or get them through, say, Courtesy Parts). They don't cost that much to replace them all.

Very true, but I think two or more of my injectors may have gone out which would be $200 or more to fix at the prices I was originally quoted. I can find a junk yard engine for around that price and swap it. Granted it would be in unknown condition, but probably less mileage. This car is strictly a track car and just for fun so I don't have a big budget for it. Not a real issue now though since I can find injectors cheaper and will most likely go that route if they are indeed not working.

Thanks for the replies!

If you dont want it to leak while its sitting their, take your gas cap off the relieve the pressure then it shouldnt leak while sitting in the garage
