I ran into a few problems while disassembling my sr t25. 1 of the 4 bolts that hold the exhaust end of the turbo has broke off. 2 of them came out easy, the last one has been loosened but is at a stand still because the housing will not separate from the rest of the turbo. I tried using the last bolt as leverage to separate the turbo but i feel I'm going to snap it. is the broken stud holding it all together? If it is, I want to remove the compressor housing so i can get it with a drill but the 2 holes of the large snap ring are located in a really bad spot right under the oil return. cant get straight or angled pliers in there. what to do?

I'm rebuilding a t25 but no pics, pic below is a saab t25 to illustrate the 4 exhaust housing bolts.

Well, I had a similar problem when I was rebuilding my T25.

I dropped it off at Stage6Motorsports and they cut the bolt off and then used an air hammer to get the turbine off. They then heated the housing again and again until they could easily pull the stud out

its easier to take the snap ring off to the compressor housing when the exhaust side if off, sadly enough. It took 2 of us to get the snap ring off honestly, because I would compress the snap ring and another friend shoved a small srewdriver underneath it and snaped one side off, then we just worked it around until it popped off. It sucked.

Ive done this alot
knock the exhaust housing loose by tappin it with a hammer 180* apart, once you get it loose you should be able to turn the houseing and get the bolt out.

the exhaust housing is Cast Iron so dont worry about it, Dont beat the shit out of it lol just be carful for the exhaust wheel when it come free, but everything inside will be fine

just gradually tap it harder until it comes free spray some PB blaster where the center section and houseing join, dont just knock it in one place tap it around the housing, (On The 4 bolt side, like you wanna take i off)

I used an oxy-acetylene torch to warm up the housing. Then I tapped it off with a hammer. Housing was just fine afterward. For $30 shipped I'll send you my blown T25. New exhaust housing studs for the outlet and the exhaust housing is off, ready for your mounting pleasure :)

No it doesn;t hold anything in place, just use alot of PB blaster and a hard rubber mallot, its important to pull this piece apart evenly as possibly or else you risk doing damage to the turbine blades so check often to make sure it still spinds freely as your working it loose.

All that being said if you need a new T25 turbine housing hit me I have one I can sell you that doesn;t have any broken or stripped bolt holes.

in the pictures it looks relatively clean but its been soaked in wd 40, pb, & foam rust breaker. I used a rubber mallet and started to tap all around but as hard as i hit it, it wont budge what so ever. torch time?

try and loosen the bolt under the oil return as much as you can.

You need to use a ball peen hammer to break it loose, rubber mallet wont work that well cuz the rubber is absorbing the shock

the nut is loosened all the way. (not in pic tho) I tried using it as force to separate the 2 pieces but its going to strip.

its almost impossible to pry it apart, you just gotta knock it with a ball peen hammer, dont be afraid to hit a good time or two, just lay it on its side and start knockin

thanks for the help guys. I finally got it apart but it wasn't easy. soaked it in a pool of wd 40 type fluid and scrubbed it with a wire brush then got the torch then a fat ass hammer. i thought about letting it sit on the stove. wounder what would of happened.
