View Full Version : Jimmy Up-Packin Heat...new design

Jimmy Up

So when we pushed out the umbrella girl design it was between this design and Umbrella Girl, obviously we went with our girl. Now it's going well, well enough for us to push out this design that I came up with that I named "Packin Heat"

Colors have not been decided yet and I am once again asking for your kindness in giving me your HONEST opinion on the design and some input on some color ideas that you would like to see. From black to copper chrome, I can pretty much get any color print on this and it is set to come out in the very near future.

Jimmy Up started solely on the opinions of you ladies and gentlemen and I plan on running every design through you like I have been because every opinion truly helps and is greatly appreciated.

So BE HONEST and let me know if you have any suggestions, opinions, or even concerns.

Thanks again people,
Mike Mancuso

Alright- this is the direction I am taking "packin Heat" I need to get the wheel wells all drawn in with some other details under the hood and colors decided, but I want to know from you guys which placement I should go with.

Sorry for the cut-off pics, photobucket is being wack

it looks kinda weird... thats the part of the shirt that wrinkles up the most when you sit. its too centered would look better if it was off to the side some and the jimmy up logo was on the bottom rear side of the shirt. just my opinion.

I agree....the placement of the logo and the engine are kinda off. I think the logo should be either of upper rear or maybe even on the bottom front with an offset. The engine could go either on the back or offset in the front.

the sr rendering needs some work. fix that bend where the air filter is. ...and the filter itself, its way off. also, could you run the line off the front of the rail UNDER the intake manifold? That'll help clean it up a big.

As far as placement of the logo...i'm not feeling it. I'd be nice going up the left side (looking at it) next to where the brake lines bend down.

[not talking out of my ass, i carry a degree in graphic design with my opinions.]

mmm..

I'll be bluntly honest.

Were you under some sort of influence when you made this?? lol j/k

I like the idea. but the placement is far off.

Most designs that run around the neck portion looks lame. Unless its some EMO band shirt that the :ghey: ppl sport.

I love the motor. Just edit the rails along the firewall. (So people stare at your package) :D

The intake filter could look a lot better

I've seen alot of shirts try to mock up the complete engine design on the front, and none of them looked good.

But whatever man, I'm buying some stickers !!! :P

I don't like the logo placement at all. It reminds me of a napkin being tucked in a shirt. I think it'd look good on the back top. I don't like the ribbon either. The "y" in Jimmy is too high compared to the other lower case letters too.

The design of the engine leaves a whole lot of nothing behind it. It's too empty in my mind. I think it'd look good if it were offset to one side wrapping around to the back with a diagonal down shot of the engine.

That banner edge looks fruity.

The jimmy is too spaced out.

banner on back instead of front...looks like a bib

keep your logo the same.

Packin heat...

Lose the catch can

run an AN fitting from the vc to the intake

smooth out the intake pipe

run the hose for the radiator on the center of the radiator from front to back

decrease the size of the picture on the shirt

center it, instead of having it down low

Aspec style intake instead of a mushroom

So is the back of the shirt going to have a nice rear end shot.

with some blast pipes or what?? lol

I agree with a lot of the comments above. The intake looks funny, the firewall doesnt really need to be there at all maybe?, and the engine is too far down the shirt... tall designs like your umbrella girl can get away with being down low because it is a vertical design. The engine however stretches out more horizontally, so it looks funny being down low. There is a big blank space on the shirt where most shirt designs are usually located.

03-23-2008, 07:32 PM
the idea is fresh, but you definitely got to consider how it looks when its worn. the banner on the front will look wierd with anything but wide broad shoulders. i agree with tops, the engine should be from another angle and offset on the side, maybe tilted a little. jimmy up should be on the parallel to the engine and then the full banner and name should be on the back, if not on the top, then on the bottom.

Thank you to all of you that gave me your opinions and suggestions- you will definitely see them incorporated when I put the shirt back up. I got extremely excited and rushed it before I could do what I wanted with it, but I do not want to disappoint as I feel this has the potential to be a very popular design.

I can tell you have no design experience.

Start over. New logo. everything.

Look through some design books first, please.

You are absloutely right, I dont. But looking through design books is only going to get my designs in the same place as everybody elses. Jimmy Up is from grassroots for grassroots in my personal opinion, not trying to make a quick buck but offering people an automotive related shirt that they like to wear. I'm not for just throwing a pic of a car in the middle of a shirt and calling it a day, I like to make it different because it gives you guys options.

I am going to take the time to make this come out right but the LAST thing I want to do is copy from a book or any other source for that matter.

I hope you take the time to check out the reworked design and still feel free to give honest opinions, but to ridicule is never necessary.

Thanks again to ALL of you, because without your opinions this might have made it out...:tweak: haha, much love

Much appreciated as always,

03-24-2008, 07:44 AM
I feel the same about the placing on the shirt. Other then that I would wear it , I don't like how extreme the pipes are and I think it would be hotter if they were toned down a bit. Not a fan of engine bay for a tshirt , boxers maybe :bigok: haha j/k.

Biggest suggestion i can make is to read up on/look at other past designs and designers. I understand you want to do this the "grassroots" way, but there are reasons why a design works or not, the more knowledge you carry when you design something, the more successful they will be.

A thread like this has very little backing. Very few (I'm not saying all guys, so don't freak out) people have experience in this type of thing. You'll get a few good suggestions that have some worth and backing behind them, and the other 90% is just opinions with no sort of knowledge or experience.

Think about it, would I go to a mechanic to ask about heart disease? (I don't need any witty snappy comebacks to this guys, its rhetorical)

no but when you are selling things to a particular crowd, you want to sell what they would buy so asking what we would buy in colors or whatever is perfectly understandable. personallly i like the umbrella shirt a lot but dont want to wear a shirt that says the brand name over and over rather just the girl with the umbrella and maybe one jimmyupsafesexharddriving but across the back and twice on the frontin the umbrella leaves me feeling like a walking billboard. its a shirt not a mike jones song. not to mention i need a little larger shirt than has been offered. but the designs are pretty cool and the gold on black does look good

That was my concern but I wanted it to be like a "Jimmy Up" umbrella girl, umbrella and all. And I had money to fund another print on the backside that way people werent left hanging again with just a print on the frontside. I dont even like Mike Jones... haha, but thanks for the insight.

Well i understand where you're coming from, you want to make sure people are going to like your product. But the fact is you can't please everybody, and you can't even begin to try to. If its a good design for the right reasons, people will naturally like it. Like i stated before, there is a reason why a design works or not.. it's not just some random chance, it's all planned out and thought through- consciously or not.

to the OP: if you're interested in creative, off beat t-shirts, hit up the site www.digitalgravel.com they usually have some cool stuff you don't see every day.

Best of luck:)

Concerning both designs:
Hood (front) looks way too flat. The shape isn't right either, unless the hood's resting on the windshield (would still be wrong).
Engine bay is too empty. Should at least incorporate the strut towers.
The car and the engine have different perspectives. It's apparent that you designed the car around the engine.
The view from the front and the view from the back don't match. I like the front view, but I'd rethink the back view. When walking past people, people you walk past see the front of the shirt first, then the back. So I'd design the back smaller than the front like the car just drove by (with the hood open LOL).
There are no charge pipes.
As far as the back view, the hood is HUGE. It should barely be visible, if visible at all. Yeah, it shouldn't even be there. The lines of the hood go off the car.

http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b365/italianstalian008/shirt3sketch-1.jpg

I don't like how the front has two focal points. The Jimmy UP logo should be somewhere on the car as a decal.
The projector being cut off makes the right headlight look like it's 'looking' at the left headlight.
It's in between off center and centered.

http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b365/italianstalian008/shirt3sketch2.jpg

Chest would ruin the front. I don't think a girl could wear this shirt. The placement should be a little higher, or above-the-belt height.
Same with the back; a little higher, or above-the-hips height.

These are just my opinions.

These designs still have work ahead of them.

I'm done critiquing.

Look at other designs but never copy. What hes saying is look at some basic design principles. your stuff misses the mark on a lot of basic levels. Frosty and I are offering "honest opinions" not ridicule. If your going to design you need to learn to take some constructive criticism.

Jimmy Up
03-28-2008, 09:58 PM
Not at all, I am taking all of these opinions into consideration. I just didnt think that looking at others designs and using those is the best way to start this off, no disrespect at all, I really do appreciate the honest opinions and trust me, the umbrella girl design from the first sketch to the final product changed VASTLY (for the better) because of constructive criticism. But having originality makes me happy, and while it is true, I have no experience with designing anything except for my cars, a majority of you guys like my previous designs. I really am not shooting at anybody here, because every opinion really helps me and I want them to keep rolling because I try to sit down everyday and try working with these suggestions to see what I like out of them and use it.

Lets see what happens here, takin it one day at a time :D Thanks for the feedback sir.

Again, keep it rolling- I appreciate ALL feedback ;)
