Thanks to the peeps in Technical and wek'sos who gave a few tips

Here's the box shot and a picture of some hella supertones that I never got to install:

NRG Short Hub:

The wheel:

Stock/OEM Wheel with airbag:
http://img237.imageshack.us/img237/1776/steering5qt7.jpg

First thing I did was take apart the trim pieces around the steering column:
http://img247.imageshack.us/img247/2266/steering6ss6.jpg

Next I pried off some clips on the back of the steering wheel which revealed the T50 screws which I had to spend $10 shipped for a special wrench :(
http://img180.imageshack.us/img180/8008/steering7bq8.jpg

This allowed for the Airbag to pop right off and revealed the 19mm underneath:
http://img185.imageshack.us/img185/2954/steering8gy7.jpg

After tugging on the steering for a few minutes and getting weird looks from neighbors seeing the car rocking back and forth, I realized I needed to go get a steering wheel puller... That did the trick and once the wheel was off, there was the SRS clock spring/ribbon thing underneath, which I took off:
http://img72.imageshack.us/img72/8619/steering9cp3.jpg

Problem was, there's a wire connected to the SRS thing which then connects to the stock steering wheel's horn button. The new hub didn't have anything to connect to the horn with, so I had to make a tap. I stuck a wire into the left-most SRS connector socket and at the other end was a metal clip from a pen. The brass metal backing of the new hub makes contact with the pen clip, which creates the horn connection:

http://img237.imageshack.us/img237/6945/steering11yq2.jpg

Things were going pretty smooth so far until I tried sticking on the steering wheel to the hub. The screws that were supplied were too long and I ended up stripping two of them, but luckily got them out... so I drove a few miles to a hardware store to get some shorter screws. Then these new screws were just slightly too long and I ended up stripping one of them badly, so I had to drill it out, and go back and get more screws. This somehow took a few hours when it should've taken a few minutes.

(pic came out blurry)

To much dismay, after I attached the steering wheel, I realized the center nut sticks too far out on the hub... and I couldn't mount my horn button. So all that work to get the horn work was for nothing... I'm thinking about getting a quick release in the future which should push the wheel out farther, and then allow me to put on the horn button. But this kind of counters the point of me getting a short hub since it'll stick the deep dish wheel out pretty far... oh well

Looks nice, but get a quick release and a hub lock with the quickness.

You know how hot S-chassis are these days.

Edit: Well, I meant sexy hot. :keke:

I should have looked at the first couple of pictures.(Just by glancing it seemed like an S14.)

Hah.

Wouldn't be bad idea to invest in a little more safety either way.

Gotta love 300zx's

But seriously, a steering wheel puller?

Man every steering wheel I have ever changed we yanked that shit off. I keep hearing everyone "oh yeah I need a steering wheel puller". What you really need is some big cojones and a little patience. :axe:

You can be ghetto and rig up your horn without the button, to where you just touch a wire to the metal and it beeps. Maybe make a switch out of that somwhere...thats what my old boss did with his cargo van hahaha.

Not every steering wheel is easy to take off. My S13 is a bitch and I've had to use a puller on a couple occasions. On the other hand, my friend's S14 wheel was really easy to remove. Ironically, I've also had my steering hub pop off once while drifting when I didn't torque it down enough, lol.

And to the OP and other's who are looking for the tool to remove that torx screw, you can find em at any Kragens.

Yeah I was pulling it to the point where the leather on my OEM wheel was twisting too much, and I still have to sell that so I decided to stop

I probably should've checked out Kragens first, McMaster Carr or what it's called charges quite a bit

just for future reference the special tool you needed aka Security Torx can be purchased at your local vatozone.

Me likey. For horn problem, you can get like 10 - 15mm spacers. I had to use one, because Nardi does not fit NRG hub straight up. And the wheel sits just like stock steering wheel (turn signals are not a mile away, lol). It's on S14 tho.

My horn doesn't work on mine. I have a nardi comp with a works bell hub. I guess I need to make a tab like you did? I had a plug that was supposed to make a a direct plug in but I guess it isn't. Anyone else do a nardi wheel on a works bell hub?

That set up looks sick in the Z though, especially w/ the suede dash.

If you ask me, then mine's not hooked up either. Didn't have time/was lazy to do it. Will have to go back and do it.

i found that if u use the palm of your hand and hit all around the wheel like a mad man for good 2-3min it will pop off.

on my s14 the wheel def wasn't going off by pulling, didn't want to rent a wheel puller so i got mad and did that.... popped right off!!

If you have a rubber mallet, that helps. I wacked my steering wheel a couple of times and it just came loose.

^^ Yep, I forced mine into submission with a rubber mallet as well.

Some more advice:
Don't tighten them to the point where you strip the bolts. I had bolts that were too long also. I just used small washers - didn't feel like going to store to get shorter bolts. And they work. Best thing to do would be tighten the bolts where they are tight enough, then check for play. If there's some, either use my method, or get shorter ones. kthnxbye

It should work. If you have a S14 make sure your SRS wheel isn't bad and also check your ground regardless of what car.

works bell hub doesnt have a working horn?
i thought thats what they were supposed to take care of along with the airbag light.

if all else fails kick the shit out of it till it comes off

and if your pulling on it...make sure u leave the nut on a little bit so you dont smack yourself in the face with the wheel

Well there isn't a airbag light but the horn wont work. I haven't looked into it in great detail, there weren't really any instructions in English, haha, so I just did the best I could. The ribbon wire stuff on the stock wheel is still on the wheel is that wrong?
