View Full Version : Knocking noises from tranny?

Okay, so acouple days ago my 5 speed swap was completed.

Recently i noticed alot of knocking from the tranny, i'm not sure what it is, it's weird because i can feel it under my feet while driving, for some reason in nuetral it makes alot of noise but when i move the shift knob to the right side and hold it tightly the noise goes away, what would be the problem? tranny mounts? maybe my tranny bracket.

another question while driving on the freeway at fast speed, i don't have the lower boot to cover the shifter at the moment, so i can see these things, while driving on the freeway, i notice that sparks are occuring right by the tranny, im not sure if the tranny is hitting the ground, or whats going on.

- when we put the master clutch stage 2 in, 2 bolts were missing so we left them out because i needed my car to get around town, later were gonna get the two bolts from home depot or something and put them in, i'm not sure if this would cause a problem or not.

- i got a
clutch master stage 2 clutch.
11 lb. fidanza lightweight flywheel
R&D Factory 15 lb. one-piece steel driveshaft.

Any help would be great.

thank you!

Update:

So i took my car canyon driving the other night, I notice when i turn to the right theres a hard knock, when i turn to the left, its smooth with no noise, anyone know the cause?

I'm really guessing its my tranny brackets / mounts, i don't know?

anyone have any opinions?

any help appreciated

thanks.

I REALLY hope you are talking about bellhousing bolts because if you are talking about the pressure plate or flywheel bolts you should be hanged by your fucking balls for being so retarded!!!!!! You're going on canyon runs too while you are missing bolts, SMART!

well the noise seems like its coming from the driveshaft hitting the car. i can feel the vibrate on my feet sometimes.

ok, so i just called my friend and he said theres 2 bolts missing from the pressure plate.

OMFG!!!!!!!! Retards of the fucking year right there! You know that you can ruin your clutch like that right? It HAS to be held down evenly!

i guarantee you didnt bolt the driveshaft up in the right postition, and that with the missing flywheel bolts...

Who ever did your tranny needs to be hung by his/her fingernails while covered in honey and lowered into a cage full of wild boars.

LMAO!!! YOU NEED NEW FRIENDS!!! Then tell your friend to trade his tools in for some sewing kit cuz he should never be allowed to touch a fucking car ever again!!!! :smash:  :bash: :ugh: :loco: :tweak:   :mepoke:

PS: Just in case you didnt get the Memo, DONT DRIVE THE CAR if its missing pressure plate bolts...not unless you wanna buy a new clutch.

ugh, god dammit, its the only car i got to get to work. damn this sucks ... i'll see if i can pick up a ride from some people.

anyone know where i can get some bolts? i tried home depot for the tranny mounts but they didnt have anything, so i doubt it they would have bolts for the pressure plate.

edit: thanks for whoever that neg rep me, i didn't even do the tranny swap because i don't know how, but yeah thanks!

are you dense? seriously... dont drive it at all, and dont let him put it together because he is probably dense too. fix it then drive it, or donate the car.

as for finding the bolts. got to nissan they will have them.

otherwise good luck

Yes, You are an Idiot.

Why half ass a 1-5 hour job? In that sense, why even pull a job like that?

You do know those bolts are suppose to be torqued down by the foot pound.
and evenly, x crossed. So that correct weight is placed in the center while your flywheel spins.

Now if your stupid ass friend. Left 2 out.
Its only a matter of time, untill you kill yourself or someone else possibly.

Your an Idiot.
You need a better friend(s)

Sparks are flying and yet you are still driving?? and CANYON driving? Are you fucking insane dude????

The car must hate you as a owner.

i don't drive crazy canyon, i just follow as a spectator, just to watch out for my friends that are driving hard. i've seen acouple of my friends lose there cars driving canyons so i dont do that.

i don't know what the sparks came from, and they only occur at high speeds, 80mph, on my way to a junk yard one day i saw that.

i'm still learning about my car, and about to start studying in auto-tech in college.

i'm still learning, if i knew how to do it myself, i would of done it myself. i asked my friend acouple of times, if its okay without those bolts, and he said i should be fine, well who else am i going to turn to.

i don't know the consequences, so i don't understand why people keep attacking me, i barly had a 240sx for a week now, and after i got the car, i started doing research.

people keep flaming me, saying i'm fucking up, well how the hell should i know, i posted this acouple days ago because i was concerned.

now i know, so you don't have to keep flaming me, its not my fault, i took his word that everything was okay.

i know that if i continue driving, i'll need to get a new clutch, i know that it's not good. i already got the point after the first message.

i already got the point after the first message. picture yourself when you started learning about cars, well thats ME. i'm learning.

mods can close this thread now since nothing is gonna be good out of it, i got the information i needed.

thanks for those that weren't such jerks about it. i clearly stated that i didn't do the swap, i just helped out with whatever they told me to do.

close please.

Dude, STOP driving the car completely! You can damage your clutch disc or pressure plate since they're not held down evenly. The WORST case scenario is the clutch could blow up due to eccesive vibration, come through the floor, and chop your feet off! That is the reason why drag racers are required to run scatter shields around their bellhousings. My mom knew a guy back in the day (like 60's back in the day) who had that exact thing happen to him.

EDIT: I hope you guys installed the M/T pilot bushing as well!

You learn by researching the topic endlessly. You had some tard do the work for you who obviously wasn't competent for the job. I did my own swap with no limited knowledge and just guides from the internet. Friends helped. They're not experts, but we searched and did everything right no matter how long it took.

Your problem is relying on other ppl and placing them as smarter than you just because they're certain of the bullshit they're telling you is true. Search and read. It's not difficult at all.

I would get that car up on jack stands immediately and inspect every bolt associated with the manual swap. Especially your drive shaft bolts. Hell, taking out the whole trans. at the same time would be even better. If you don't know how or are too scared too then pay someone competent enough to do so, even if it means getting raped by a Nissan dealership.
