First Problem (Electrical):
Sometimes when I try to start it up the car will completely short out. The clock and radio go out. It only happens sometimes. If I open the door, and shut it again, it resets. But if I try to start it again it'll short out. But if I open the hood and tap the top of the battery and shut the hood it starts right up? Also there is a problem sometimes because when I start it up it'll stall right out like it's not getting gas. I think the problems are interrelated. Or when I'm driving sometimes the radio will turn off and come right back on like it didn't lose any power but it thought I just had started the car while driving. Anybody have a start of what I should check? I'm guessing it's a bad ground somewhere.

Second Problem (Motor):
For some reason the car runs fine and doesn't seem to have any problems besides a lopey idle. No power loss or anything. However, when I hear the motor, it sounds like it's chugging even when driving. It sounds like a truck (like a v-8 alternating firing sequence almost). I haven't touched anything under the hood or anything so I think it might be one of the manifold gaskets going or something or maybe it's also part of the electrical problem.

Thanks in advance for all the help.
