I have a 92 240sx se coupe the odometer reads 146k mi.on the KA so I was thinking I'll need a new engine anyway but my car is a salvaged title. it runs fine i don't know what happened to it before i got it whether it was front end damage or whatever, but i was wondering if i should go with the sr20 in a salvaged title seems kinda risky. just thought i'd get your opinions.

It doesn't make a difference. You're swapping in a non-street-legal motor in, and if there is no constructional damage, then you should be okay. That's a strange question. What would make you think that you'd have a problem swapping in an SR into a car with a salvaged title? What kind of a problem?

im worried about constructional damage. my friends eclipse was rear ended and it bent his rear the camber was all messed up the tires were gone like in 2 months.
i just got a flat yesterday and noticed the inside of my tire was bald as hell which worried me a bit. If it being salvaged is going to affect driveability like that that i'm not sure i want to invest $3000 in it.

Camber/Caster/Tire wear is easily fixable. These are wear parts. Have you ever gotten an alignment? Your camber and caster can go out of specs by hitting a pothole, by not tightening your lug nut properly, all kinds of things. This has NOTHING to do with a salvaged title. You should be asking if this car has any cracks in the unibody, whether the body's straight. You put enough power on that chassis, and it will twist and bend and crack on you if it's not in good condition.

how should i go about checking the chassis. take it to a nissan dealer how much will they charge me?

Take it to a body shop that specializes in frame reconstruction.

I like to answer this question SRd20det swap. is it really worth it? 1st ?-- do you have a smog hookup to help you out when it is time for smog. if not, 2nd- are you willing to take the whole motor out and put the stock motor back in when it is time for smog?
Lot of people do this Sr swap and it turns out to be big hassle. i'm KA24de- turbo in my s13. my friend was KA turbo as well. then he swapped in a sr20det and then had to pull it right back out after 1.5 week cuz it was slow as hell and not like what a KA24de-TUrbo t3/to4E 5o trim Etc will do. SO he is back on his KA 24de-turbo. just a little bit of info. IF this is going to be a track car only where u dont have to worry about smog- Greenlight for Sr swap. im not criticizing on the SR too much... hehe maybe i am
if people had the chance to ride in both before they make a decision, i know exactly what they would choose. I had the opportunity, so that is why i went KA24de-Turbo 8.5 psi. tire spin like Crazy if you want it too-------YES you want lots of easy tire spin because these are Drift machines ----- spinning tires like NUTz through complete Drift.

yea, i got a smog hook-up, kinda, pretty sure i do.
the thing is my ka has 146k mi. so i figure boost is not a good idea on my ka, it lso looks like it some work was done on the head, prior to me owning it, it has some sealant gunk or somethin'.
and isn't the XS turbo kit like $4k-$5k.

Yea... most shops that do accident repair have laser alignment machines. They will run the laser down your frame rails, and can give your a level of straightness, given in a percentage. Most cars are about 2% from perfect... even off the showroom floor.
I only know because I had nasty tire wear and had everything checked out. Then his machine said my car was .02% from perfect. He recalibrated it, and same result, and no answers to my tirewear question. But I'm digressing.
So.. take it to the shop. Also, their eyes should see stress marks, that would indicate weak spots to dissuade you from the swap, or let you know where to strengthen. It should take an hour or so, no more than 2.

How can you compare a car with a T3/T04e to a car with a T28, unless he got a diff turbo. Obviously the T3/T04e will be faster. So I wouldn't say that it is slow as hell.
I do agree with how the SR can be a hassle, but so can a KA, it all depends on where you got the motor, who put it in, condition of the engine, and all that other stuff. I wanted an SR before, but decided to just turbo the KA instead.
Either way good luck with your project .

don't get your leopard-print thong in a bunch over mileage, buddy. my '92 has 184k on the body and engine, it'll hit 185 by the end of the week, probably 190 by january.... (pizza delivery, gimme a holla!<img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'> and it runs great. it's running a little rough, but that's b/c the timing's off and i'm a lazy bastard. these cars will last for all eternity, if you treat 'em right. i'm not going to turbo this one, but that's b/c i'm going to sell it and get a canadian market s13... i gots a hookup, oh yeah. VLSD? check. manual seatbelts that don't choke me or my passengers? check. uh... DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS?! check. woohoo! the turbo will come, and then the entire user list of STLStreetracer will cower in fear, what with their civics and crx's and other junk...

For one thing, there are people who own 240's that don't "drift" <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/dozingoff.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''> Also, each engine has it's own different charicteristics, advantages and flaws. The SR is a lot happier to rev than the KA and the CA even moreso. They really shouldn't be pitted against each other directly, especially when you're talking about an engine with a t3 or so, and one with a stock t25.

I think you've stumbled onto something! Once the Japanese "tuners" find out the KA-T is far superior to a plain jane SR there will be a huge market in Japan for importing tired KA's from the U.S. for $$$$- you're genius, genius I say!</td></tr></table><span id='postcolor'>
lol.. Yeah I'm sure all those huge corporations like HKS and Blitz that tune monster ass cars, not to mention tuning companies like Signal are just way behind the times, and those silly little Japanese guys just don't know how much better the KA is than the SR... And since us Americans are soooo much better at building drift machines then them we know the truth that drift machines need KA24's in them huh...
Really.. James is right. You're a genius! Now just get a few videos of your friends awesome drift machine out into the public so all those silly Japanese will know the real truth. Shut up.
