hello people and all those i didnt see at the treasure island shindig, i had a question about my droopy eye'd 240.when i accel, i get a slight hesitation, like it wont go faster untill i push the accelerator harder, then it'll start to go and small vibration on the gas pedal and somewhat through the car, i know my engine mounts are not perfect but i had a friend of mine check um out and they arent the problem, ive seen much worse and not had this problem, and i think its killing my gas mileage also (225 miles per tank) so im trying to figure out what the problem is. if anyone knows just some things to check or need more info plz lemme know i should be around these forums all day. or hit me up on aim: ragedeep

Run through your car, check everything.
Loose spark plugs, clogged injectors, loose belts, vacuum leaks.
It could be a lot of things.
Let us know what it isn't, and we should be able to find out what it is.

much appretiated, ill check that stuff, i know its not a vaccum leak i went through a whole can of brake cleaner over the engine. and its a sohc ka engine. be back later with more details

might even be a loose ground somewere.
on my sr i had bad grounds, fixed them and hesitation went away

ok i dunno about the plugs but im not mis-firing, but to be safe im goin to replace all the plug wires and plugs, my belts are tight, nothin loose, i went through another can of brake cleaner over the engine and no vaccum leaks from what i can see. i cant think of what else could be the issue, car passed smogg and evap test no prob. what else should i look for when im starting to drive and my gas pedal vibrates slightly? also, how can i see if im running rich?

by me saying what i can see, i meant to say the engine doesnt idle up at all while im spraying the cleaner.

Ignition timing may be a little off.
edit:
I don't like this one (http://www.nicoclub.com/articles.php?id=161707), let me see if I can find one better.
edit:
use this (http://www.nicoclub.com/articles.php?id=161702)in combination with the other one.

does it sound like a subaru?
if it has a deep raspy exhaust tone and the car shakes and there's a loss of power?
do u have that?
if so pm me and i will help u out.

Yo Thrill, I got the exact same problem... lets keep in touch about what works and what not.
I replaced the plugs, wires, cap and rotor but she still lags a little...

i wouldnt say deep and raspy, but at the same time im not that mechanically inclined so ill ask more questions when i can. for example if i put my food on the gas pedal steady but lightly itll almost lurch. like it wont even start to move faster untill i put more gas into it, almost like its something holding it back? i dunno but if i get a chance to hookup with one of the norcal boys they might be able to describe it better. i plan on seafoaming the engine tm also

this is just a long shot(others can verify)...could it be his throttle body?
it seems like when hes putting his foot on the gas and pushing on it, nothing really happends.
then he gives it more and its all crazy
just a possibility

How does it idle?
Is it hard to start, or do you have to give it some throttle to start it?
Thrill

the idle is alright in park but its a bit low i think in drive, around 500rmps, maybe about 700 in park, if it its my throttle body what can i do to clean or fix

does it feel like it has no power.
aka running on 3 cylinders?

Where in east bay are you?
I've been chasing down a hesitation issue as well. I've gone through and checked a number of things from TPS, to plug gap to MAF, to capping off the intake inlet from the PAIR valve. Did some grounding, and after all of that, I've found that my injector donuts are leaking air. Suction sound. I sprayed carb cleaner around where it's coming from, but there's no increase in rpm.
If you're close to Emeryville (where I work), I can probably swing by sometime this week with my multimeter.

try running a compression test maybe even low on one cylinder

thanks guys theses are all good things for me to look into, and ill have a xpert opinion tomorrow also who might be able to explain it better than I. and im usually in oakland or walnut creek area if that matters,

i had this same problem about a month ago, and i couldnt find out what it was.. so i did a $100 tune up (Spark Plug wires, Plugs, Fuel Filter, Dist. Cap) and it ended up just being that the Coolant Temp. Sensor plug had a splice in the wire, and if that thing aint completely plugged up, it will make your engine run like poo for some reason.. so check it out...
its auto guys.
hows the rpm while your reving? like half throttle then full throttle?
maf not clean, and or filter?
ground all good?
fuel pump craping out?
advance your timing? when you smoged did it feel slower after you smogged? if so the guy retarded your engine. just bring it back to advance.
im pretty shure you dont have a mis fire you would know spot on.
do a compression test and vaccume test.
see if you have 21 vac, and then wot on it and see if the vac goes to 0 psi fast or slow. your cat kould b clogged.
alot of diff things it kould b. take off egr and stuff.

It could be bad back pressure from your exhaust... I have that problem, too.

Get it sorted out yet?

I had the same problem... replaced plugs, wires, cap and rotor...
then did an oil change... went to synthetic and added ENGINE STABILIZER($50 bottle) with the change and ran a fuel injection cleaner on a full tank of 91oc.
Made a huuuge difference... but I think I still have back pressure like that other guy said. Maybe cause I have a lame muffler.

yeah thats what im thinkin of too for my s14. the first mechanic who checked my car said i had a lead in one of my gaskets from my downpipe. when i went to a exhaust shop they told me that they are thinking that the cat is shot. and whenever my car hesitates in idle a compression surge is heard. ill get a new cat and tell you guys if it was the problem or the exhaust leak. to the OP i live in san jose maybe we can go compare our hesitation problems? ur a local and so am i. i work at great america and we can check it sometimes i work there.

im havin the same problem and i had the stock exhaust on. i posted up about this a couple days ago and someone responded by saying it the idle air control valve was dirty. im prolly gonna replace it and send my car in for a tune up soon

if you have a 3 inches catback yes you will loose some torque due to loss of back pressure but you will gain on the top end. correct me if im wrong guys. coz i have a ka still and running on a 3 inches catback and i lost some torque but gain on the top end. to get that power back i have an intake for it to gain few more torque.
back to the topic. run the engine then spray some carb cleaner all around your engine and see it the engine responded on where you spray, if it responded thts where you vacuum leak is.

Though I'm not sure if brake cleaner was a good idea.
Either way. You find out anything yet. I can't learn anything when there just a problem with no result.
