Code 55???wtf please read

hey guys
i have an 89 hatch bone stock. lately, it has been dying on me. i also noticed that at highway speed, it felt like i was letting off the gas, but i was not. i bought a new fuel filter, and took it for a ride. on that 10 min ride, it died once, and would have died again had i not given it gas as i was turning into a subdivision. i pulld the code from the ecu, and it gave me code 55. wierd, the fsm says nothing of code 55. also, the cel is on when i have my foot on the gas, but goes off when i take my foot off the gas

PLEASE HELP!!!

Code 55 is the "all clear" from your ecu. It's not registering any faults.

I think code 55 usually means no error was found. That thing about the cel being on with your foot on the gas but not on when you let up made me think TPS. Not sure though hmmm... is that the case at idle or while you are driving too? I'd think that the ecu would give you code for a bad tps.

could be the pump, check the voltage getting to it.

Is there any way to check if the pump is good?

i belive the the fuel pump at least works, cause the car starts up first try. just some times on deceleration, the rpms just drop all the way to 0. but then it will start right up.

as for the cel, no matter what, if the gas is even slightly depressed the CEL is on. let off it, and the cel goes off. i could not find anyhitng in the fsm tha explains that.

Maybe a fuel pump issue.... Has it ever been replaced?

not to my knowledge. the car has 209xxx on it, i bought it at 204xxx. is there a way to test if the fuel pump is providing adequate fuel?? like a flow test

I'd still check your TPS. Did you check your timing? Vacuum Leaks?

im having the same problem my RPM's drop all the time after reving the car up a little, and i got the the same code 55, but i jsut changed my fuel pump...and im pretty sure that 55 means all clear

well, im pretty sure i fixed it today.

first thing i did was pull the fuel pump. the sock is a little dirty, but all in all, i have seen much worse. i tested the pump, and it seemed to work just fine. i then decided to check the idle air controller. i pulled it off, and was amazed by the amount of carbon built up on it. i cleaned it out with almost a full can of carb cleaner, and then reinstalled it.

the car has never idled better, and i drove it for an hour with no roughness or dying.
