View Full Version : Need A New Gas Door, Should I Go Carbon?
hey,
first off.. i know that i wont be doing a weight reduction here.
I need a new gas door. the previous owner left the gas filler neck in and decided to drive off. it got all bent up. So, my question is does anybody have a carbon fiber gas door? Does it come with the hinge?
I dont want to sand down the inside of a gas door as that would be a pain in the ass for nothing. But i wouldnt mind the look of carbon fiber on the inside.
or should i just buy one from the dealership.
its probably the same as far as price goes.
let me know.

Are you talking about the fuel filler door that you open with the switch under the seat, or the flapper door where you unscrew the fuel filler cap and stick the gas nozzle in to fill up?
Driving off with the gas pump nozzle still in can damage both of these.

just find a shell and pik it up for 20$ or less... idk how much the carbon fibers go for
hell he probably broke both.
i am talking about the flapper door i have to open to unscrew the gas cap so i can fill her up.

Is this for a s14 or s13? I'd say try Ebay.

i think i didnt explain well enough or you misinterpreted what i am asking.
i am not having trouble finding a carbon gas door.
i am asking if the carbon fiber gas doors have the hinge on them. That way i can put the two screws in, sand and paint the outside, and be done. IT is for a s14

ask who sells/makes them. Odds are no, its just the door part, no hinge.

Last time I saw, there are no carbon gas doors for either of the S-chassis. They have immitation carbon stickers all over the place though. I would suggest just getting a stock door and run with it.

There are cf overlays on ebay... aka not molded cf, the stock part with cf on it
I'm not sure if they come with the hinge, its meant as a direct replacement not really a fixer part

I don't even have a fuel filler door. How's that for weight saving?
I have a fuel cell though so no bottom mount tank.

There are two on eBay.
Search "S14 gas" and you'll see 'em.

Two OEM doors on ebay. Shipping will kill though. I would try and find a car that's being parted out in the for sale section here.
Trying to source a cheesy carbon fiber door WITH hinges will be ridiculous.
OEM is the way to go.
Good luck bro.

saving that minimal of weight isnt a big deal. what would i save by going to cf gas door? 2 ounces? what is my track time going to be .0000001 second better by doing this? ITS NOT FOR WEIGHT SAVINGS.
i am kinda toying with another idea now though.
can we close this thread?

yea, It is a little pointless. Might as well just buy a stocker, and the sticker from AZ and you will have "the look of carbon fiber"

DO YOU NOT UNDERSTAND WHAT IT SAYS ABOVE?
I WILL BE PAINTING THE OUTSIDE!! I think the carbon look would be nice to have when you open the door to put fuel in the gas tank.
i painted the carbon fiber trunk. Probably will paint the hood.
but whatever. interpret that however you want.

Hey, I happen to have a S14 shell in my garage with the OEM door still attached. You have the whole door assembly completely intact for 5 bucks. It's green though but since you're repainting won't matter. I also have the entire trunk/gas tank release assembly with the cable if you need it.
PM me if you want it.
Oh and jusy an FYI, you can close the thread yourself. Look under thread tools.
Thanks.

you do realize that the "carbon fiber" part is nothing more than a fiberglass part with carbon fiber layer on top than cleared over. So when you paint over it, you don't see the carbon part at all. from the inside its just a back of fiberglass mat.

Where did I say you were trying to save weight? I said that I got rid of my fuel filler door and fuel tank and went with a fuel cell to save weight.
If you want to pick a fight make sure you're picking it with the right person who was saying stuff about you.

my bad! I have been debating the fuel cell idea. Any idea how much weight ya saved by going with the fuel cell and losing the factory tank? and how many gallon fuel cell do ya have?
