It's a big world out there and our beloved S-chassis is shared by many in this world. So here is my question why do people get angry when they hear that a foreign magazine has casually called our S-chassis a 200SX? It is in my eyes the truth as far as they are concerned. Most of the S13's and S14's of this world were fitted with 2.0 liter SR20DE or SR20DET. The only countries that got the Ka24E and Ka24DE for their S-chassis as far as I know are the U.S and Canada hence the name 240SX.

In my defense I present to you these articles to read.

Probably because they're idiots. Where are you seeing people getting upset over this?

The issue is not casual references to homegrown model names. The issue is people trying to pass off these casual references as fact.

You can call a car a 180SX, 200SX, 240SX, Silvia, or a purple monkey dishwasher. It's when you say things like "S13 200SXs in Europe came with the SR20DET" or "When it has an SR20DET it becomes a 200SX" that makes you a moron. There are badges on the back of the car and engines under the hood and that doesn't change. When stating specs, using any name for the car besides a factory name or chassis number is just plain stupid and confusing to those that don't know better.

As for the three cars you posted;
The first is a JDM 180SX imported to New Zealand (they weren't sold there OEM). The article calls it an S14 2000SX incorrectly and asks why it doesn't have more stickers. I'd believe that article as far as I could throw it (straight in the trash).
The latter two are Australian-spec S15 200SX's, hence them being called 200SX's in the articles (DUH)

Why did you start a new thread about something so stupid?? If you don't get it by now, don't bother thinking about it, you'll hurt your brain.

Since we're on the topic of idiots and foreign s-chassis names, I can't stand when idiots try to pass off their USDM 240sx as Silvia, 200sx, ect.
I actually had someone get me on AIM asking for 180sx fuse diagram. I asked what country he was in, he replied USA, and I immediatly went off. Then I told him it was a s13 240sx, and he said "Almost. It is a s13 fastback." He was certain his s13 hb was a 180sx. Anyway... just thought it would go with stupid people and s-chassis names.
And yea. That pisses me off to no end.

hmmm... So if I put an sr in my car I can't call it a silvia? Can I still call it a 240? Or will it be stuck in the middle 2via??

What do I do! What do I do!

My shift boots from Poland so does that mean I have a little 200sx in my car??

Sorry guys but this whole discussion is really funny. I call my car an s14. That way I don't have anyone jump down my throat if I slip up and say silvia or 240 or something.

if you have an s14,then yes it would be a silvia...without an LSD though.

... and a lot of other things, like RHD.

The bottom line for me on what it is has always been what does it say on the title? That's what you own.

I own a 1995 Nissan 240sx.

I'm just poking fun. In my eyes they are all the same just different levels of trim. One has SR one doesn't etc etc...

That whole rhd lhd thing sux. If I ever lived in Japan I would buy an s15 and have it converted to lhd like the US. I can't shift with my left hand I've tried can't do it. (imagine Jed in a lawn chair in front of his clip w/ steering wheel from old car bolted on trying to pretend like he's driving )

I call my car Betsy (in private) thats her name, not 240sx, Betsy. If I tried to come up with a name based on the parts that are installed it would be a 240sx/silvia/300sx/s13/s14/soon to be s15 basterd child/mutt type thing. Not pretty

Something is wrong with the guys article in the first link. His car is obviously not an S14. I say who cares what people call an s-chassis car. Just as long as you own one you should be happy. What really annoys me are all those converison mix and match names, such as: onevia, sil40, and sil1480.

damn, came too late to the party.

You can call your car what ever you want, but it won't change what it is. Calling your 240sx a 200sx, silvia, 180sx ect just makes you look like a noob to people with a clue.

... sigh

It's been a long and bad week for me.

Making a noob mistake doesn’t make it any better.

So here goes

this is what I said

Quote

In Japan an s13 with an sr20det engine is called a 200sx the thing in the magazine is the real thing no swaps nothing.

This is what I should have said at the time

In England an s13 is called a 200SX

Sorry for the mistake the only thing that kept me going through this week was this thought "This too shall pass".
